Transcripts
hey everyone how's it going so back in
October the channel Smith plays Pokémon
in collaboration with many other
talented modders created Pokémon Crystal
Legacy the so-called perfect version of
generation 2 well today we have its
sequel or should I say its prequel the
so-called perfect version of Generation
1 Pokemon Yellow Legacy does it live up
to its predecessor and is it indeed the
perfect version of Pokémon Yellow only
one way to find out but first I want to
give a sincere thank you to Opa GX for
sponsoring this video If you think all
browsers are alike think again Opera GX
isn't your average browser as someone
who live streams plays games and does
like a billion things on my computer at
the same time many of which require the
internet I can't have my browser hogging
so much CPU and RAM thankfully Opera GX
has the GX control feature which
dramatically limits the amount of ram it
uses compared to typical other browsers
now you guys know how much I love
Pokemon Opera GX can be modded to
basically be a Pokemon style browser
which is cool as heck using GX mods many
of which are available for free from the
GX store you can get background music
keyboard sounds opening and closing
sounds all of which are straight from
Pokémon am Emerald one of my favorite
games you get a theme and color
wallpaper and don't worry if you just
want the wallpaper and browser sounds
but not the background music you can
enable and disable whatever you want in
the menu from the sidebar there are so
many different mods to choose from using
the GX store giving Opera GX infinite
customizability Opera GX also has chat
GPT built right into the sidebar this
means you can ask it all sorts of
interesting questions like what is the
badge boost glitch and oh well I didn't
know this guy beat the game of the
magicarp Kudos man what a gamer and
speaking of gamer if you're a gamer like
me GX corner is the place for you if you
like gaming deals want a release
calendar or gaming news you can use GX
corner for all of it it's like having an
old school magazine built straight into
your browser but way better and I know
many of you haven't been using Opera GX
but don't worry switching to Opera GX is
as easy as beating rival 4 all you have
to do is hit settings go down a bit to
synchronization input bookmarks and
settings import and it's done now if
this sounds like a browser you want to
start using all you have to do is click
my link either in the description or pin
comment and you can download Opera GX
today so before we begin I should
explain briefly the concept of these
Legacy games the idea is not to make
Pokémon Yellow a modern Pokémon game
change all the mechanics anything like
that is to try and smooth out the rough
edges of games that are decades old
maintaining what made them so amazing at
their time while also adding quality of
life features there's a balancing act
and there's always going to be that
careful line to walk between changing
too much and not changing enough as
someone who plays generation one
essentially as his job I definitely have
a lot of opinions on ways it can be
fixed so I'm curious to see what yellow
Legacy does one of the first changes
you'll notice throughout the run is that
in yellow Legacy just like in Crystal
you can pick between a male and female
character now there was never a girl
character planned for yellow so this is
a completely custom Sprite and it looks
pretty good another change you'll notice
throughout the run is that even though
Pokémon Yellow when played on a Game Boy
Color would display in color a lot of
the palletes didn't quite match what we
would think of the Pokémon today so
you'll notice with Rattata it looks its
more normal purple color as opposed to
well whatever color this is but wait
there's more in terms of another much
needed visual difference while the front
Sprites had been updated twice since the
original Japanese red and green released
the back Sprites remain the same which
is why they pretty much never matched in
the North American Games well in yellow
Legacy painstaking effort was made to
redo the back Sprites of every single
Pokémon I'm going to try to use as many
as possible throughout this video to
Showcase them but suffice to say they
all look good and even a couple front
Sprites were redone as well although for
the most part the front Sprites other
than their color palettes are exactly
the same from Pokémon Yellow so if
you're used to my red and blue videos
that's probably why the front spres look
different one last aesthetic change that
wouldn't be incorporated into vanilla
Pokémon games until Generation 3 is
unique menu Sprites for each Pokémon in
the original Generation 1 games even in
yellow there were only 10 well if you
count Pikachu 11 menu Sprites so for
each Pokémon to get their own custom one
is pretty cool and does make the game a
fair bit nicer to play in my opinion but
let's be real nobody is playing a game
from the late '90s for Aesthetics while
they're nice how is the game play has it
been improved in any way well the best
way to determine that is to get into a
battle and what better battle to use
than the first gym battle versus Brock
but before we do notice something
different about Brock normally in
generation one his Overworld Sprite
looks I don't know kind of generic not
really like Brock but this game uses
something closer to his generation 2
Sprite Which is a big Improvement but
okay okay enough about Aesthetics so
you'll notice I have a gold de here
against Brock what the heck is going on
how do I have a goldine and an Oddish
with tackle oh boy this is not our
standard Pokemon and then I send out a
Vulpix the Vulpix would have been able
to knock out the Geodude but I wanted my
Metapod to get a little bit more
experience so I use Metapod for a bit
before it faints sending out Vulpix to
go for Ember again where did that come
from and now Beedrill is using pin
missile all of this is to say a lot has
been changed since the red blue and
yellow we know a lot of Pokémon have
been moved around including the Old Rod
itself which now catches goldine which
now knows bubble which I used to help
defeat Brock as in the let's go games
Oddish is now available in vidiian
Forest although it doesn't know absorb
which is new and Vulpix I caught on
route two now funny enough even though
typically I'm known as the guy who does
solo runs however before that I had some
pretty successful videos about catching
Pokemon so I decided to go back to my
roots and try to catch every single
Pokémon and in yellow Legacy all
151 Pokémon yep even Mew are available
to be caught if you go to Smith play's
release video you can download a Google
doc that will tell you where every
Pokémon is but the in-game Pokedex does
a good enough job and not only does it
tell you where the Pokémon are it even
tells you their level up move set the
one irritating feature about this really
cool Edition is that you can't scroll
like you would in later Pokémon games
like with all Generation 1 Pokemon menus
you just press a to go to the next page
so if you miss something you just have
to go back through it which if you're me
and press a way too fast happened all
the time but it's really cool now you
know without having to look up on
Bulbapedia where every Pokémon is and
what their move sets are this is a super
nice quality of life feature which
frankly I'm shocked we have not seen in
an official Pokémon release now it's not
just move sets and where Pokémon are
that have been changed trainers have
been changed as well this first bug
catcher didn't have a Metapod Kakuna and
Butterfree and so trainers throughout
the game have had their teams updated
their levels updated and overall this
makes this game a lot more difficult
than you might remember this won't
impact me now but as I try to fill up my
Pokedex by leveling up random Pokémon it
will become embarrassingly apparent that
this game was not intended to be played
the way I think the original gen One
games were which is swapping out your
Pokemon constantly and thus not being
overleveled in this game when I did that
as you'll see I was underleveled but hey
it's still me it's still gen one I think
we'll be okay okay as per tradition we
should talk about the Rival 2 battle
there are some changes but be aware he
does always lead with a spearo you can
see Geodude has a much improved back
Sprite its back Sprite is simply
atrocious and geodo does a good job
getting through most of the team however
finally Eevee does knock it out which
allows me to show another one of my
Pokémon sandrew I mean it's just a
random sandrew no way this is going to
be an important Pokémon for later it
just faints I don't even know why I
brought it up anyway we do actually
knock out the Eevee with Bulbasaur which
you still get from that NPC in Cerulean
City the starter Pokémon are all
available where they are in the regular
game but they are actually also
catchable where Eevee is as you can see
where I pull up the Pokedex and thus you
can get all three Evolutions in this
game as well as most Pokémon in a living
decks if you wanted to not all of them
there's a couple you wouldn't be able to
get but still pretty cool all right fast
forwarding a little bit I caught a bunch
of new Pokémon 35 in total and we're
ready to battle misty misty leads with
Psyduck closer to what she has in the
anime and her psiduck with confusion
makes quick work of bells Sprout however
in this game you'll notice the AI is a
little different they don't always go
for moves classified as super effective
which does actually make them a little
better one other thing I didn't mention
which is really cool are the experience
bars reminiscent of generation 2 this
way you know how much experience points
you have to gain luckily for me because
star me didn't go for a water attack we
were able to burn it and then venonat
has leech life now leech life has been
buffed substantially from what we know
in gen one although it's not quite base
80 power pretty sure it's base 50 power
but thanks to Charmeleon thanks to all
my other Pokémon we were actually able
to defeat Misty with venonat and move on
by the time we Face rival 3 I've already
played for 10 hours of in-game time
don't forget I played four time speed
and I'm a third of the way done my
Pokedex which is really cool considering
I'm not all that far into the game we
lead with Geodude because it did such a
good job last time and there's something
you might notice after I knock out the
radicate my XP bar seems to be broken
but it isn't broken you see one thing I
didn't mention is when you start a game
of yellow Legacy you get the option
between normal and hard mode in hard
mode the game automatically level caps
you at certain points depending on the
next gym leader this means our Geodude
cannot get to level 25 and that means it
won't become a grer for lieutenant surge
which may prove to be a a little bit of
a problem unlike rival 3 who was pretty
easy now if you're one of those people
who feels bad that I insult Serge
constantly don't you worry Serge's
Revenge will be sweet so all he has is a
Raichu however even though I'm capped at
level 24 Raichu is level 29 and it makes
quick work of my first two Pokémon also
in generation one don't forget Critical
Hits are based on your base speed
and in case you thought well that
doesn't matter you a Geodude it has surf
so this Raichu one shots every single
member of my team and that taught me
that this rom hack was not messing
around I would go on to lose to Surge a
few more times with this team trying in
vain to beat this level 29 Raichu but
eventually I had to go into my PC and
bring out my secret weapon and
unfortunately for Serge it proved to be
a little too much for him you see you
can catch a Doug Trio and although it's
not as overleveled as before it nearly
onot Raichu now all we need is to
survive an attack which Ivysaur can and
we beat Lieutenant Serge on our first
try after losing like seven times with
the other team oh also I want to mention
another really cool quality of life
feature you don't have to go into the
menu to use cut surf like you do in gen
one you can just press a like in
generation 2 it's really nice but as I
was saying well that change is nice it
is a nasty change in a good way that
these gym leaders are not going to be
pushover Serge had a water move he was
ready for my Geodude and the level cap
ensured I couldn't even get close to its
level one Pokémon was able to sweep six
how are the rest of these gym Le is
going to do well I decide to battle the
next gym leader I would say right away
but you can see I spent significant time
catching Pokemon we're at 68 now as we
go to battle Erica now Erica leads with
tangala and we have venon at bind is
still generation one bind meaning as
it's used I can't attack and another
thing you should know is that the AI
makes its decisions after you've made
your decision so it knew I was going to
switch there and put Charmeleon to sleep
you'll notice Charmeleon now has fire
punch as a better fire move which is
great and thankfully was able to take
out tangala victory bill comes out next
and we do outspeed you'll see it has
headbutt but it's not enough to knock
out charmelia next comes out Ivysaur a
new addition and its new move acid
knocks me out but venonat I go for leech
life after it goes for leech seed and I
knock it out and then her vile plume
this is is not what she would have in
yellow she would have a gloom and you
can see vile plume looks closer to what
it looks like but it's giving me fits
paralyzing by Menat going for solar beam
I'm going to have to swap into do Duo
but it puts it to sleep right away and
knocks it out with a powerful acid
attack acid by the way has been buffed
to 60 base power now since this vop
plume uses solar beam and will go second
I decide to go for dig and try to time
everything unfortunately Erica predicts
it and uses stun Spore but I do get it
to half Health now War tle doesn't
really have much it can do I'm able to
get off a bite but solar beam knocks me
out and now all that I have left is
drowsy but drowsy is able to put V plume
to sleep and while it does wake up I'm
able to just just miss knocking it out
how frustrating but hey Erica beat me
that doesn't happen much after Erica
beat me one more time we do get a little
bit more luck this is something I want
to talk about with this game in general
which is that a lot more Pokemon have
moves that put you to sleep or confuse
you than in the base game and so luck
does become a little bit more of a
factor than you might be used to
especially in this battle if I don't get
put to sleep and I'm actually able to
attack I can do significant damage and
so by the time we get to vile plume I
have five Pokémon remaining and drowsy
is able to take it out on its own you'll
notice that burn deals 1/8 damage
similar to how it used to which is
enough to knock out the vile PLO but
going forward not necessarily in the gym
battles but especially in the Pokemon
Tower which we're going to get to there
are just a lot of Pokemon a lot of
hypnos haunters gastle that use moves
that are very RNG heavy hypnosis can hit
about 50/50 time confusion 50/50 that is
something I definitely started to notice
but again I probably wouldn't notice
this if I was using Pokemon at the right
level as opposed to whatever Pokemon I
just need to evolve to fill out my
pokeddex I guess the main takeaway here
is balancing generation one with its
limited move list and Smith blazs did
not add a single new move in this game
certain moves had their types Chang such
as slam being a dragon move but other
than altering what certain moves did
it's the same move list and thus it's
always going to be difficult to give the
AI good move list because it's just so
limited and so sleep rap confusing those
are things they can give the AI to make
them harder it just does introduce a
little bit more luck which is
reminiscent frankly of a game I really
liked Pokemon Stadium it's just
something to take note of now I was
streaming this live on Twitch which will
help explain why I forgot to battle
Giovani and instead went straight to
rival 4 but but look at this rival 4 no
pushover level 34 FOH and then a shelder
at level 32 I'm just going to speed
through this battle a little bit because
the shelder does a really bad job at
being a level 32 shelder rth takes out
my War Toral now I send out graler once
again graler has been an amazing Pokemon
but another thing I should mention is
that unlike in traditional Pokémon games
they will evolve via level up between 38
and 42 I believe for the four trading
Evolutions you'll also notice I did beat
rival 1A so jolon is the Pokemon the
Rival uses and since I was so sick of
being put to sleep I decided to turn
that on Rival 4 sleep has not been
changed so you still can't attack the
turn you wake up and it still lasts
forever and after we win we evolve
drowsy to Hypno meaning it is going to
get retired maybe it made the game
harder but it was really fun getting to
use pretty much every Pokémon and
getting just a brief glimpse into how
they were changed for tradition's sake
let's talk about Giovani number one so I
lead with war tal bubble beam doesn't
quite knock it out but second shot is
fine Kangaskhan so this is very similar
to what we remember my graler is
unfortunately paralyzed and you'll
notice this Kangaskhan has submission
that is a new move and submission in
this game cannot miss so that's pretty
cool I try to use Cubone but it's just
way too weak
as is grimer it does survive but poison
gas misses this is once again me
underestimating my opponent and I don't
have enough good Pokemon war tle is not
going to get the job done and I need to
use a better team if I'm going to beat
Giovani number one so I do just that
bringing a few Pokemon out of retirement
including Venusaur now level 32 and it's
able to one shot then put Kangaskhan to
sleep but it wakes up right away and
actually does some pretty good damage
but I'm able to use leech seed giving me
back some HP and taking away Kangaskhan
critting with Razor Leaf which will also
knock out Marowak and then Persian comes
out we get a crit again that's
guaranteed by the way and I send out
Kadabra to try and finish it off not
going to do it but thankfully grimer
will it is quite a bulky Pokémon and
with some retired Pokemon we were able
to beat Giovani an inefficient use of
experience points in a game where you
can't rebattle trainers but spoiler
alert most pokemon you actually don't
need to evolve people would tell me
later the few Pokemon I think there's
only about 10 of them that actually need
to be evolved via level up the vast
majority can either be caught and most
of the ones where you can't catch the
evolved form evolve via Stone so in fact
I probably didn't need to be leveling up
as many Pokémon as I was but I didn't
know that back then
and hey when else am I ever going to use
a grimer anyways the next major battle
we talk about is Kaa and there is a ton
of game between now and then so my
team's going to look pretty different
it's kind of fitting as I cross the
halfway point of the game by Gym badges
I have halfway completed my Pokedex but
Koga would not be as easy as normal in
yellow he has three venonat and a
venomoth in yellow Legacy he leads with
a goldbat which Bo speeds my Kadabra and
you'll also notice I'm using experience
all that way I don't have to use worse
Pokémon I thought graer would be a good
swap in for Muk but it knows Mega drain
Smith Blaze predicted it Kadabra does
outspeed Muk but sludge is the power of
sludge bomb 90 base power no shot Cubone
comes out next no shot with mega drain
and I reset I'd lose a couple more times
before some of the developers told me to
turn around that I'd missed one of the
trainers as it turns out Janine makes an
appearance in this gym and she's not
quite as difficult as her dad I was able
to beat her in my first attempt a pretty
cool little Easter egg something I
wasn't expecting since for the most part
this game didn't actually change things
like this that often but after losing to
Kaa so handily I battled all the
trainers other than the ones in Sil
company and I think it made a bit of a
difference so my cadabra is now in
Alakazam should be tired but it has one
last thing to do it evolves at level 42
by the way which is why it's at level 42
and you can see with the experience all
at least the other lesser Pokemon are
still gaining some experience but yeah
Alakazam just completely obliterates
koga's team and it made me realize I
probably didn't want to be using it for
the rest of the run I was having more
fun when I was trying to piece a team
together not just use the evolved form
of my favorite Pokémon to sweep I mean
it worked and it was good but going
forward I think we should try to use
some more underappreciated Pokémon most
of these will be the Pokémon I need to
level up in order to finish the decks
and it was this point after being able
to use surf out of battle that I was
able to complete a large majority of the
Pokedex unfortunately this motly crew of
Pokémon that needed to be evolved
weren't very good and were being
defeated by just random Sil company
trainers our Ace as you will see is
dragon air it's good with three
Elemental moves and slam coughing and
ekin also need to be leveled up this way
but since a lot of the trainers have
Hypno they weren't so great now you
might think I selected the dome fossil
in Mount moon but I actually selected
the Helix Fossil you get your fossil at
level 40 meaning I only have to level up
omite once as for Kabuto you get it
where you would get the good rod in
fuchia city but it starts off extremely
underleveled meaning we're going to need
to get it all the way to level 40 to
become a Kabutops as you're seeing now
this team did not farewell against the
random trainers in Sil company but
rather than bring back retired Pokemon I
spent hours just trying to build them up
first against wild Pokémon and then just
finding the perfect route and with the
exper share on slowly but surely the
team did start to improve and at some
point we hit a break through our team
genuinely started winning despite the
fact as you'll see they're pretty
underleveled unfortunately as it would
turn out beating random Sil company
trainers doesn't mean you'll beat rival
fival so rival fival leads with a
paraset and then a Gyarados dragon air
has Ice Beam and it has Thunderbolt but
Thunderbolt is not enough to knock out
Gyarados Kabuto knows rock slide but
Gyarados has surf meaning we're going to
need dragon air to knock it out well
that did eventually happen Ryon came out
next and we knew surf so we could knock
that out bringing Alakazam Al Kazam went
for try attack inexplicably but just
completely made minced meat of the rest
of my team we were making progress we
had gotten through the build building
and again streamed live on my twitch I
spent over 2 hours just battling random
rockets in Sil company losing a ton but
occasionally winning with this team and
since it was clear we need to level up
more I decided to go battle all the
swimmers on the way to the Seafoam
Islands and couch Articuno but as it
turns out it wouldn't be so simple
because webra was in my way with her
level 55 Snorlax and if you thought
rival fival was tough a level 55 Snorlax
is not something this team could defeat
so we will battle webra later in the
meantime leveling up against random wild
Pokemon you can see dragon air is
close-ish to evolving and it will need
to do so probably to defeat that Snorlax
but we're going to have to come back a
lot later and level up somewhere else
for now one place I figured would be a
great place to level up for a Kabuto and
a dragon a is Blain's gym at this point
I don't need to level up any more
Pokémon than the ones I have so even
once they evolve I don't have to retire
them now you might assume with Kabuto
Blaine would be a total joke you would
assume
incorrectly because as it would turn out
this rapid Dash knows a bunch of great
moves including high jump kick which is
super effective and with rapid Ash's
speed it gets a lot of of crits so at
first I thought this might be a mistake
but in the end Dragon a ended up taking
some high jump kicks knocking it out
it's level 50 but it's still a dragon
air Charizard used wing attack so I'm
able to knock it out but uh-oh I've hit
the level cap so dragon air cannot
evolve to Dragonite prior to defeating
Sabrina who is the gym leader I'm
supposed to be facing you'll also notice
my team has gone through a little bit of
a change I've swapped ekin out who
evolved to Arbok off screen for Pony
which needs to evolve into Rapidash
unfortunately it didn't really do much
in this battle but dragon air is doing
pretty good using its Surf and not
knocking out Arcanine it's all up to
Kabuto Arcanine digs a hole and I decide
eh I'll live it and I do unfortunately
for me I didn't realize Blain has a
Magmar in this game so we're going to
have to use that level 11 sandrew and it
faints right away darn I wish it would
be
useful unfortunately we get so close and
yet we lose so perhaps Blaine is going
to be a little harder than I thought and
while we're able to beat all the
trainers in his gym to actually beat
Blaine maybe we'll need kaboo TOs and
good thing I have all these rare candies
let's use them now and you know what not
only can we get kaboo tops we can also
get a wheezing so I battle again using
dragon air not as much this time because
it faints to Charizard but Kabutops
after seismic toss knocks out Charizard
Ninetails doesn't have energy ball
that's a Gen 4 Move it goes for solar
beam so I can swap into Pony it doesn't
tank the solar beam wow anyway we're
going to be able to knock it out with
surf next comes out our canine it's
going to go for dig this time I do want
want to swap and I'll swap into Meowth
by Meowth then I go into wheezing I'm
going to try to use sludge here and
poison it fortunately no dice Kabutops
it digs a hole again and I don't tank it
now all that's left is the sand slash
and it
faints shocking after losing a few more
times I decide to change strategies
dragon air knocks out Rapidash faints to
Charizard but I have a new weapon
remember the badge boost glitch yeah
that's still a thing here so after using
Swords Dance I can outspeed everything
and uh that changes things I tried not
to use it I wanted to play this like I
played as a kid but like after all these
losses I am using underleveled Pokemon
it was pretty cathartic just to show how
overpowered badge boost glitch is
because not only only do we get the
attack boost of Swords dancece which is
massive we get the speed boost as well
so it's basically like better Dragon
Dance from Generation 3 and our Kabutops
can learn it and Blaine stood no chance
but it isn't just Blaine who will fall
to the badge boost glitch no we opened a
Pandora's Box and at this point it will
become clear who the true champion of
cheating is I decide to give wheezing
some experience points and knock out
Parasect with it Gyarados comes out and
I'm going to swap here to Dragon Aire it
goes for double edge but dragon air is
so bulky since I've beaten Blaine the
level cap has risen which is nice so
dragon air can gain a little bit of
experience points but the most important
thing is that at level 50 we outspeed
Alakazam unfortunately it lowers our
special and slam is categorized as a
special move in Crystal Legacy Dragon
was changed to physical but in this game
it is made maintained its status as
special and oh yeah if you wanted to see
sand slash get its revenge jolon has
nothing on it the rivals Ace is defeated
by a level 29 sand slash let's go buddy
for the record that sand slash actually
was very useful about the 100 or so who
watch the stream are probably going to
be irritated because that level 17
sandrew beat Pokemon three times its
level this just goes to show the
difference between watching ing a
complete playthrough and a major
battle's highlights sometimes Pokémon
aren't great in major battles but really
good against standard trainers and sand
slash was one of them I'm glad that
against jolon you guys finally got to
see how good it can be speaking of how
good it can be let's talk about how good
this team can be Giovani leads with a
Kingler which uses a critical hit
crabhammer and knocks out my Kabutops
into hits now I didn't mean to swap into
Meowth but it will gain some experience
points and will knock it out with
Thunderbolt next comes out the
Kangaskhan slam being just a good Dragon
move that can Flinch man I can't explain
how helpful that is because it makes
minced meat of both Kangaskhan and then
Machoke I decide to go into sand slash
look how tanky it is and look how it
takes out that Machoke you guys are not
ready for the Revenge of sand slash yes
it will faint to a Golem of course it
will it was a pretty low HP but you guys
have no idea how great the sand slash
will be and then dragon air finishes off
Persian and giovon number three is
history next comes Sabrina the psychic
type trainer she only had three Pokemon
in her original battle in yellow but not
this time slam psychic and my special
fell but I still knock out Abra Hypno oh
my god do I hate these hypnos they love
to use psychic sand slash couldn't tank
it and they love to use hypnosis but
thankfully this one didn't until it did
but I woke up right Away Great slam
doesn't knock out Mr mime and we go into
Kabutops and hey guys double badge boost
special drop attack raise Get Wrecked
and Kadabra best Pokemon can't beat the
badge boost glitch nor can
Alakazam with one sword dance and a
lucky special drop although it is 33%
the time we were able to outspeed some
of the fastest Pokémon in Generation 1
now a question could be asked here Jos
what do you feel about them leaving in
the badge boost glitch and I'm kind of
of two minds on one hand it is an
essential feature of Generation 1
however a lot of people including myself
didn't really even know about it until
the mid 201010 it wasn't even all that
well documented before then now one
thing to note is that the badge boot are
essential for Pikachu as they affect
Pikachu even more boosting it by
25% and that the boosts in general were
a part of the Pokemon series until gen 3
but should they have patched the glitch
part I'm going to be honest and say it
maybe would have been nice for Hard Mode
the fact that once we get Swords Dance
it essentially becomes Super Dragon
Dance has made things a little bit
easier and as you'll see we're going to
start beating trainers with some crazy
Pokemon way underleveled and you know
what part of that is on me I refrained
from using it for so long but the truth
is I was about 7 hours into this
playthrough I wanted to get this video
done relatively close to the hacks
release and so I did choose to use it to
speed things up a little bit but it is
something that maybe in a future patch
could be removed from the hard mode but
but anyways after defeating Sabrina I
was going to complete almost all of the
rest of the Pokedex and that meant
catching the legendary birds after
seeing webra block Articuno I knew there
would be someone blocking Zapdos and
there was this is Craig Craig has a
jolon and my sand slash well we saw how
sand slash handled jolon before handles
it just as well unfortunately next came
out Aerodactyl and sand slash really
doesn't have anything for that yet yet
so I need to rely on dragon air which
isn't quite able to one shot so it
starts taking some damage wheezing
learns Amnesia by the way in this game
which is huge anyway after dragon air
faints we have to rely on wheezing to
try and knock out Snorlax and somewhat
surprisingly it's almost able to do so
Pony then is able to get a Flinch and
knock it out with a stomp but cler
although I'm able to outspeed I wouldn't
have been able to knock it out had it
not used EXP
explosion now all that's left is
venomoth and Doduo venomoth gets one
shot by Arcanine and Doduo is actually
just there because it flies me around so
I am defeated by Craig both Craig and
webra I wasn't able to first try Victory
however Craig didn't see me at my final
form because I didn't have my Kabutops
and so I'm sorry Craig you're in for a
rude awakening after obliterating your
on with the greatest sand slash in
history we then swap into the one and
only
Kabutops Kabutops unfortunately gets hit
pretty hard by rock slide but I also use
rare candies and after accidentally
swapping into venomoth it's time for
Dragonite Aerodactyl misses with a
hyperbeam but we are able to oneshot it
unfortunately since we're at the level
cap we aren't going to be able to gain
any EXP experience points but we are
going to be able to absolutely destroy
Craig's team his final Pokemon his
Arcanine is nickname furball how cute
too bad it's been annihilated by
Dragonite I don't know why I'm gloating
I'm using a pseudo legendary at this
point but hey we win and we can go and
catch Zapdos but there's one more
trainer that needs a rebattle webra but
first might as well get Giovani out of
the way because if I beat Giovani I can
actually gain levels for from defeating
webra and I beat Giovani actually twice
the first time with Dragonite the second
time less with Dragonite because I
wanted some experience but yeah that's
the eighth gym badge now revenge on
webra like we saw webra leads with her
Snorlax and sand slash not so great a
matchup all right we're going to go into
kabootops and go for Swords Dance
earthquake does a lot but rock slide
doesn't knock it out all right wheezing
time to finish the job which it does
with a sludge next comes out Gengar
wasn't expecting that so I go into
venomoth unfortunately hypnosis Dream
Eater pretty good combo Dragonite I then
go for slam and it puts me to sleep but
I wake up right away slam puts me to
sleep wake up right away you can't beat
this Dragonite it's been with me since
level 30 it's my friend and we all know
how friendship is absolutely integral to
the anime of which Pokémon Yellow is
based vaporeon's a great Evolution but
it's not a Dragonite Onyx well Onyx got
buffed but it's still a freaking Onyx
and then finally Machamp champ of
nothing hyperbeam I laugh in its face
take that webra move to the side as I
catch the legendary bird Articuno the
144th Pokemon that I need to catch all
that's left are a few in Victory Road
and finally is in the post game
presumably Mewtwo and Mew in order to
get to Victory Road we do have to get
past rival 6 rival 6 his jolon does have
headbutt but the greatest sand slash in
history it doesn't care Pidgeot then
comes out next and it knows Sky attack
that's pretty powerful move considering
it no longer takes a turn to charge but
after going for swords dancece I miss
and then it goes for double team and
yeah this is giving some Pokémon Stadium
Vibes for sure thankfully Dragonite
doesn't care about your evasion it'll
just knock you out with an ice beam and
you know what exeggutor well leech
seed's kind of bad but two ice beams
Marowak three ice well actually just one
Ice Beam on the Marowak and then I use
surf on Arcanine leech seed hyperbeam
who cares man we're a freaking Dragonite
and we slam into Alakazam Flinch it crit
it call it victory for Dragonite in
Victory Road there were more custom
trainers with names obviously of the
developers but they couldn't stand a
chance against this super team no
nothing will get in my way I will have
Victory I will 100% this game and I will
be the king of Pokemon Yellow Legacy he
may be Smith plays Pokemon but I shall
be known as jro's wins Pokemon
love I'm trash talking someone who made
a game but anyway yeah let's go beat the
Elite 4 so lur leads with slow bro I led
with Kabutops because rock is super
effective against ice but when I saw
slow bro I got a little nervous and
decide to switch to venomoth it went for
amnesia I can go for Sleep powder here
and I'm actually going to swap once
again to gabut Toops now that's asleep I
can set up Swords Dance and then start
using rock slide and even with cloer
amazing base defense it stands no chance
and we sweep through her entire team
which is the same team she has in red
blue and yellow just in a bit of a
different order Bruno also seems to have
the same team at least thus far I lead
with venomoth because venomoth actually
is really good against fighting type
Pokemon also I know I added venomoth
late but I love venomoth it's one of my
favorite Pokemon wait remember how I
said it was the same it's not we got a
poli something Bruno never really had
then a hitmon Lee it goes for Mega kick
and venomoth guess it wasn't as good as
I thought it would be now we go into
sand slash because hitmon Lee actually
has pretty bad base defense and level 41
sand slash almost knocks out level 57
hitmon Lee Rapidash as its name suggests
is rapid and while it does knock out the
hitmon Lee it struggles against Onyx so
I go into Kabutops but Onyx predicts and
goes for earthquake again it doesn't
actually predict they know what I'm
going to do and then Mach comes out and
I have fly on Dragonite a powerful
physical flying move by Machamp now we
have Agatha her yellow team already is
quite different from what you remember
in red and blue way less luck base I
lead with venomoth I decide to go for
Sleep powder and Nightshade is no longer
a set damage move it destroys but it
doesn't beat sand slash who onshot the
Gengar if you can believe it sand slash
just too op now we're going to start the
get annoying double team toxic strats
last time it worked but this time it
doesn't and we still have surf for
Marowak Arbok rock slide will knock it
out and then Gengar number two
Nightshade does crit I mean it's a
Gengar I decide to go into sand slash it
goes for psychic unfortunate but we
always have Dragonite to mop up it takes
three hits but that's three battles
three victories for the super team
battle number four versus Lance
expecting Gyarados nope Dragonite but
yeah my Dragonite knows Ice Beam so
there goes Dragonite Gyarados comes out
next and I go for Thunderbolt there goes
that Charizard I don't have surf anymore
but Thunderbolt is still super effective
hyperbeam does nothing we level up
Aerodactyl it goes for hyperbeam no crit
thankfully ice beam and then Dragonite
number two we've made it to the champion
easily
this team has been way better than I
thought it would for Pokemon I just
needed to evolve they're going to sweep
through the Elite 4 the final Champion
can be very difficult will we persevere
only one way to find out he leads with
Alakazam and unfortunately sand slash
cannot beat that I wasn't expecting it
no worries we still have our Ace
Dragonite but uh-oh it knows Thunder
Wave and then it recovers
then I'm paralyzed then it crits then it
recovers uh what do I do
faint uh-oh Kabutops I needed to go for
sword dance psychic lower is my special
but that means double badge boost all
the way across the sky yeah yeah so
intense we knock it out with rock slide
and then surf the ride on we're going to
level up but not before we knock out
this Gyarados that means we're back to
our normal speed but we still have that
buffed attack and we actually still
outspeed arcine that's pretty surprising
actually and we one-hot exeggutor no we
don't that's surprising too it knocks me
out but Rapidash will outspeed and knock
it out now all that's left is jolon it
goes for headbutt I go for flamethrower
no burn Thunder rapid Ash doesn't stand
a chance venomoth I go for Sleep powder
it headbutts me first but I put it to
sleep psychic no special drop St asleep
psychic special drop stays asleep
psychic stays asleep psychic and
venomoth is the Victor
jolon had nothing venomoth the backup
Kadabra on my bug teams does the trick
we didn't even use wheezing and we first
try Victory the entire Elite
4 good stuff now normally that would be
the end of the video but there is some
other stuff to do in this game that I do
want to talk about before I give some
closing thoughts first off as soon as
you go on to Route One Professor Oak is
standing there and while I was able to
first try Victory the entire Elite 4 Oak
obliterated me with his Taos so it
showed I still had a far way to go you
also can infinitely rematch the rest of
the gym leaders all of whom have buffed
teams with the exception of Giovani who
for story reasons leaves the gym so
there are seven gym leaders in which to
battle and a couple other surprise
battles that I'm not going to spoil for
you but are pretty cool you also can
rematch the Elite 4 and like in modern
Pokémon games they do have improved move
sets buff levels Etc but it may not
surprise you to learn I first try
Victory them as well after doing all the
rematches I decide it's time to finish
the Pokedex finish what I started so we
go into Cerulean cave which I actually
haven't been in in years but to my shock
getting Mewtwo wouldn't be as easy as I
thought there was a trainer waiting for
me Smith from Smith Blaze Pokemon he
leads with an Aerodactyl and my sand
slash once again was unprepared after I
swapped in but after trying to hyperbeam
my Dragonite it met a swift faint by an
ice beam I then flyed against Gengar and
although I don't knock it out I nearly
do and at half HP we made it to tenac
Cru Thunderbolt does a knock it out and
sludge bomb does a crit and poisons so
my Dragonite may not last much longer
Alakazam goes for reflect however and so
it'll knock it out Tauros I faint to
poison but Kabutops even though it could
have earthquake I decide to go for rock
slide and Smith plays Pokemon isn't
defeated yet he still has a star me a
critical hit rock slide's not enough I
went for surf cuz it's more accurate my
mistake then it goes for surf now I need
to knock this out venomoth come on I
believe in you it goes for Thunderbolt
it crits it paralyzes oh come on it
paralyzes again Smith is going to beat
me no way come on I just gloated against
him Thunderbolt paralyzes I go for
amnesia it goes for surf Thunder misses
psychic hits oh no Rapidash and I think
Smith's going to win it goes for psychic
I go for agility stomp Flinch Stomp
Thunderbolt and Smith does beat me but
in the rematch I get my revenge because
while Smith may know how to improve
generation one I know how to break it we
badge boost glitch nearly through his
entire team this allows Dragonite to
take out the Alakazam quicker but Tauros
makes quick work of it but now we have
wheezing out I'm going to go for sludge
it goes for blizzard sludge poisons
hyperbeam does knock me out and because
it's gen one hyperbeam he will get to
attack again it goes for blizzard
against rapid Ash and don't forget
that's neutral in gen one that's
actually how it works I go for agility
stomp to try to Flinch don't get it and
so we're going to have to go into sand
slash blizzard misses I go for Swords
Dance fire blast another Swords Dance
but it faints first and I was trying to
outspeed I can't venomoth versus Star me
once again this time I put it to sleep I
go for Mega drain Mega drain and mega
drain and Smith Blaze Pokemon has been
defeated allowing me access to Mewtwo
who I'm able to catch with the master
ball and there's just a few things left
to do first let's get revenge on
Professor Oak we use badge boosting
Kabutops to beat the Tauros almost we
actually get a Flinch with rockslide
which isn't the thing in generation one
but we're able to knock out char Ard
we're even able to get a super super
clutch Miss with sleep powder Blastoise
goes for reflect but it's too little too
late and Kabutops nearly swept through
the entirety of Oak's team nid King is
able to knock me out but sand slash It
Wants Revenge it won't get it sand slash
is a bit hit and miss in this video
venomoth however has been clutch as heck
and we've defeated Oak but in talking to
Oak he talks about going to cabar in
order to find something so we go to
cabar we locate Oak and it seems like he
wants a rematch so let's go US versus
Oak the final battle part two Tauros is
level 78 and this time it one-hot
Kabutos before it can badge boost glitch
it blizzards Dragonite but it doesn't
kill and ooh this is not going to work
after missing with blizzard it thunders
but we survive we knock it out and
Zapdos comes out Ice Beam is critical
hitting and that's lucky because after
light screen oh we don't knock it out
and then it te- waves and then it knocks
me out yikes we go into Rapidash Thunder
Wave we a come on hits all right next uh
venomoth you've been clutch okay still
clutch we knock it out sick Articuno I'm
not surprised we put it to sleep and I'm
going to send in sand slash
sand slash Swords Dance one it's still
asleep Swords Dance two it's still
asleep oh goodness we're going to
outsped Articuno and knock it out with
rock slide is this sand Slash's time to
shine take that Moltres double super
effective we lose the speed and I'm
going to go for submission don't quite
knock out Snorlax we actually deal half
back as recoil but another submission
knocks it out and then nid King it uses
earthquake knocks me out we have two
remaining please rock slide come on no
tank and is weezing going to be able to
do this on its own rock slide I go for
amnesia please miss or something alas
not quite but with a single battle we
can just try again like with Smith plays
and this time I lead with venomoth
because I don't want to deal with this
Tauros so after we put it to sleep it's
time to badge boost and unfortunately
for Professor Oak he didn't know about
the badge boost glitch guess he's not
really an expert in all things Pokémon
and Kabutops this time is able to sweep
through his entire team and once we go
to where the secret key was we can
encounter the 151st Pokémon Mew weaken
and catch it and that my friends is the
end of the game there is nothing left to
do in Pokémon Yellow Legacy I have 100ed
every aspect aspect of the game as it
exists so what are my final thoughts
this was definitely a really fun way to
play Pokémon Yellow this is a fun way if
you want a Nuzlocke or solo run and
you're looking for a challenge that is
still generation one but a lot more
difficult I think the quality of life
visual changes made things much nicer I
even mention before but the bag having
triple capacity as well as the game
telling you when the box is full were
very nice additions those were awful
when I tried to catch Pokémon back in
the day I do definitely think this game
is worth checking out with that said if
I did have to rank them I will say that
Crystal Legacy I like quite a bit better
there's nothing wrong with yellow Legacy
but I do think Crystal makes a better
base for a fun experience while with
yellow there was a little bit more
frustration and cheese with Crystal I
felt like I really had to master Gen 2
mechanics to win and I felt satisfied
this game I felt a sense of Pride at
completing everything but as you can
tell the battles I was kind of just
toying with the opponents by the end
trying to use cheap sleep and badge
boost strategy but again I had a really
good time and strongly recommend you
check out yellow Legacy thank you guys
for watching I'll be back soon with a
new video and if you like videos where I
talk about RX let me know maybe I'll
talk about more of them until then take
care
