Q & A
What modifications are being made to the boat in the script?
-The boat is being modified to include six independent decks that extend the walkway out, relying on railing or sprinkler system galvanized metal, to provide a safe and stable area for fishing without the fear of falling into the water or through the roof.
Why did the narrator and his brother-in-law decide to build the decks on the boat?
-They decided to build the decks because the original structure of the boat had weak points that were not suitable for bass fishing, which they enjoy. The modifications aim to make the boat safer and more functional for their fishing activities.
What is the time constraint for completing the deck construction mentioned in the script?
-The large mouth bass spawn happens in mid-March, and they have a 3-week window to build the deck before this event, which is their favorite way to fish.
What materials are being used for the construction of the decks?
-The materials being used include 2x6s for the top of the deck, 2x4s for the framing, and 4x4s for the posts. They also have 10-foot long posts, although they may not use all of them.
What is the purpose of the 4x4 posts in the construction?
-The 4x4 posts are used as weight-bearing supports for the deck. They are placed on the railing and secured with bolts, nuts, lock washers, and washers to ensure stability.
How did the narrator address the accessibility issue from the cabin to the roof of the boat?
-To address the accessibility issue, they built a 2x4 ladder that connects to the upper deck, making it easier for people of all shapes and sizes to reach the roof without having to perform difficult maneuvers.
What is the significance of the catfish feeding on cicadas in the script?
-The catfish feeding on cicadas is significant because it presents an unusual and unexpected opportunity for fishing. The catfish are actively feeding on the surface due to the cicada boom, allowing for a unique sight-fishing experience.
What type of bait did the narrator and his friend use to catch catfish?
-They used cicadas as bait to catch the catfish, which were actively feeding on them due to a cicada boom in the area.
Why did the narrator decide to build only four decks instead of six?
-The decision to build only four decks was influenced by the discovery of various components such as bolts, nuts, and cables inside the old Helm station, which made it inadvisable to proceed with the construction in that area.
What is the role of BetterHelp mentioned in the script?
-BetterHelp is mentioned as a sponsor of the video. It is an online platform that provides access to therapy through a questionnaire, pairing individuals with experienced therapists for phone calls, video chats, or messaging.
How did the narrator and his friend prepare for fishing with crawfish?
-They prepared by creating homemade crawdad traps using gallon jugs and Gatorade bottles filled with shrimp and bread as bait, which they then placed in various deep holes to catch crawfish.
Outlines
ð¥ïž Lifeboat Modification Project
The narrator discusses a project to modify a lifeboat to better suit their fishing needs. Over the past six months, they've spent time on the boat, which currently has limited walkways and is not designed for bass fishing. They plan to build six independent decks to extend the walkway around the boat, ensuring safety and ease of fishing. The urgency is set by the upcoming large mouth bass spawn in March, giving them a tight 3-week window to complete the project. The first steps involve attaching the bottom of the frame with 2x6s and using marine exterior screws for treatment.
ðš Building Fishing Decks on a Lifeboat
The video continues with the construction of fishing decks on the lifeboat. The narrator and their brother-in-law are working with 2x4s for framing and 4x4s for posts, attaching them to the railing with bolts, nuts, and washers. Despite the challenges of the boat's original design, they manage to create sturdy platforms. The weather is a concern as they work through day one with drizzle and day two with warmer conditions. By the end of the second day, they have four stable and spacious fishing decks, although they initially planned for six but adjusted due to the presence of important boat components.
ð£ Testing the New Fishing Decks
The narrator and their friend Davey Gravy test the newly built fishing decks. They discuss the boat's difficulty in accessing the roof from the cabin and decide to build a ladder for easier access. The ladder is designed to maintain the functionality of the boat's old coffin bed. After the ladder's completion, they test the stability of the decks and find them suitable for fishing. They also discuss using live bait, specifically crawfish, for fishing and demonstrate a quick method for making crawdad traps using Gatorade bottles, shrimp, and bread as bait.
ðŠ Catching Crawfish for Bait
The video shows the process of catching crawfish using homemade traps. The narrator and Davey Gravy set up the traps in a creek near the narrator's parents' house. They use a combination of shrimp and bread as bait and successfully catch a large number of crawfish, including some impressively large ones. The crawfish are intended to be used as live bait for bass fishing, and the video captures the excitement of the catch, including a humorous encounter with a lobster-like creature.
ð Unexpected Catfish Encounter
While the initial goal was to bass fish, the narrator and Davey Gravy experience an unexpected event during their fishing trip. They find themselves in a lake teeming with catfish feeding on cicadas, which are unusually abundant due to a cicada boom occurring every seven years. Instead of bass, they catch several catfish, including a large one that fights aggressively. The video captures the excitement and novelty of catching catfish on artificial lures and sight-fishing for them as they feed on the surface.
ðŠ Catfish Feeding Frenzy During Cicada Bloom
The video concludes with the narrator and Davey Gravy taking advantage of the cicada boom to catch catfish. They observe catfish feeding aggressively on the cicadas and manage to catch several more, including some large ones. The sight-fishing experience is described as one of the coolest catfishing experiences the narrator has ever had. They also discuss the possibility of a largemouth bass appearing and feeding on the cicadas, adding an element of anticipation to their fishing adventure.

Transcripts
I got one following oh dude yes that was
awesome you guys have seen us spend a
lot of time on this boat over the last
six months or so me and the old brinis
the brotin shakes has spent a couple
nights on this thing jugging camping
fishing gosh it smells like we're inside
of a 18 wheeler's boat right now
yeah there's so much space in here
there's room for 64 people one of my
favorite boats to spend on and this
upcoming year I want to do a couple
modifications so we can fully use this
thing the way we want
[Music]
to
baby
now the original manufacturers of this
boat did not intend on it being an
adventure boat so the only structural
walkway on top of the boat is what I'm
laying on it ranges from the very front
of this railing which also doubles as a
sprinkler system all the way back to the
entrance and exit of your steering area
your home now it's pretty cool that we
have a walkway that is structural but
the thing is we like to bass fish and
the manufacturers didn't have that in
mind so when you hook a fish and you're
running around the roof we have a total
of six weak points around the entire
boat I don't know if you guys can hear
that or see that but me and my
brother-in-law are about to face a very
fiberg glassy death if we keep doing
that we want to build six independent
Decks that extend this walkway out they
rely on railing or sprinkler system
galvanized metal where you can walk all
the way around the boat fish and not
feel like you're on this slant and
you're going to fall in the water or
feel like you're going to fall through
the roof cuz neither of those things are
very fun when the water's frigid or if
you don't have health insurance
so we have 2X sixes for the top of the
deck 2x4s for the framing of the deck
and the post 4x4s got two 10f Footers
doubt we even use them all cuz our post
are going to be like that long now the
whole purpose of us building this deck
besides hoping nobody falls through and
making it a little bit easier to
navigate top while we're doing it right
now it's currently Midway through
February the large mouth bass spawn
happens midm March my favorite way to
fish man it just makes my tinglers
tingle which means we have a 3-e window
to build this
deck which I feel pretty
confident like really really really
confident confidence is just saring
[Music]
we're about to attach the bottom of our
frame 2x six is going to sit flush so we
just got to screw these in as we screw
them in we're going to coat these bad
layers down with some PL Marine exterior
screws treated wood PL Marine who the
heck are
[Music]
we what do you think that was did you
hear that man I hit something that had
compression you smell
anything probably means it's just
propane it did just sound like
a so we just keep going and out like it
didn't happen thing is if that's there
we're about to just say screw you screw
you screw you screw you screw you screw
you screw you all the way down I
look I think we're
fine oh
hostage time baby we need a bunch of 13
[Music]
in what we have done cut these 4x4 post
which are going to sit on our railing
now we bought some bits and we're not
sure how tough this rail is I'm guessing
it's pretty tough because it's on a
Lifeboat on an oil rig in the G Coast we
got4 of an inch bolts nuts lock washers
and washers we're going to try to go
straight through the wood straight
through the railing and then that will
hold our 4x4 in place then we'll attach
our 2x4 frame to this but this will be
our weight bearing
[Music]
post oh oh is that better help today's

the Lifeboat
[Music]
whatever shampoo you use smells like
bacon
what what did you say
nothing are we good yeah all
right there
you that thing is pretty snuggy wuggy
right there
[Music]
oh baby
sturdy really sturdy that's bold we're
like 12T in the air right now and the
wind's picking up heavy I feel pretty
confident I will say we are putting a
lot of weight on that rail but we'll
take our W's where we get them this
could be my favorite modification we
made to the boat so for stand up here
right on the edge dude stare down a big
old fat fatty flip a black and blue in
there and just watch her play with the
crawls put a freaking diving board right
here
dude all right deck number two it's
going to be the most difficult one to
make we kind of have
slant slant at the same time the plan is
to use three 4x4 post again we're going
to come to here leave room to climb up
the front if you're ever trying to walk
around the boat but we don't want
anybody flipping backwards off the old
girl but we're about to connect this as
the beginning of our frame right here
going to come off a little bit and we're
using the railing right there again same
thing just throw a semicircle and some
crazy Slants in there which is nothing
for
us day one has ended with a little bit
of a drizzle if you sneeze on a r be
tool wrong they stop working forever
we're getting out of here see you ladies
and gentlemen on day
[Music]
two like to strip them down so they have
no option but to stay where I need
[Music]
them day number two folks got the front
left deck installed she's stable she's
already dirty how everything I own is
it's warming up dude the weather's good
it's been a week since we've been to the
project today you guys know what we're
doing you know what the plan is I'm
going to try to shut up put my head
down grind mind set
[Music]
oh yeah we are getting close folks to
bassing with the
boys boys bassing
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
did you like that or
no we can cut
it
folks gentle ladies after roughly 2 and
1 half days or so we have four intact
fishing decks pretty dang stable and
they are pretty spacious if we have one
angler per deck I think it'll be
absolutely perfect now in the beginning
of the video we said we were going to
make six Decks that is not the case we
came down here to start and there is
bolts nuts and a bunch of different
important components of the boat right
inside of the old Helm station we have
gauges and gaskets and a lot of cables
that run down to the engine I do not
want screw up especially with a fishing
deck I think that gives us plenty of
room and it won't let anybody distract
me while I'm trying to drive this thing
cuz it's like a 18 wheeler on on the
water now that we've kind of addressed
walking on top of the broken fiberglass
the next big problem that we've been
facing with this boat from day one it's
dang near impossible when you're out on
the water to get from inside the cabin
of the boat to the
roof mm when you're out on the water and
you're in the life boat and you got to
get to the roof there's two ways to go
you either go outside the side windows
on either side and you go around kind of
like the catwalk so to say it's maybe
foot wide and if you take one wrong step
you're toast you're just walking down
the sprinkler system up there hoping you
don't fall off second way is just a
straight up muscle up and you just you
know what I'm
saying do one of them not only did we
want this thing to be super easy to fish
off of we also wanted it to be
accessible for all shapes and sizes of
fishermen women we're going to build a
little 2x4 ladder right here that
connects right here comes straight up
and that'll put you right by the deck so
you don't have to do any muscle ups or
crazy Maneuvers to get up there and
it'll still let us open up the old
coffin Bed full
[Music]
functionality all
right letter
test so much
easier so much easier
and she's
stable she is so
stable
wow can't she catch
fish one way to find
out oh wow nice form nice form brother
oh wow we had to bring out the main man
Davey gravy to help me try out the new
fishing decks on top top of the life
booat are you impressed with my handy
work at all I really am look like you
could go work at a shop thank you good
sir so we tied the Lifeboat up to a
little fishing slip right here a little
dock slip there's a couple fish spawning
right by the boat ramp we're going to
try to get up on the fishing decks and
we have live bait yesterday we went out
in a little creek did a little homemade
trapping homemade
trapping we are behind my parents house
at a creek that I grew up coming out
here chasing cro at and brown we went by
Walmart and we have gallon jugs of water
we're going to turn these things into
our crawdad traps when it comes to
making a crawdad trap if you use a
regular water bottle the opening is too
tiny so we need a wider one which is why
we went
for few Gatorade bottles as bait we got
some shrimp and then we have some oh
wow of the bread that was in their roll
back section at
Walmart gravy's favorite Gatorade is
Glacier
freeze
wow oh excuse me number one done
baby good Lord Almighty this is a big
deal ladies and gentlemen gravy hasn't
drank water in 4
years you be careful ch
that you're about to be a broken fire
hydrant
dude would you like some not after
that what's that gravy are you ready for
the fastest bait trap build you've ever
seen in your life I am all right I've
never seen you build one before here we
go you're a handsy man um handsy you to
go with your hands like crafts Craftsman
okay okay that's what I meant all right
S I meant
11 total fist traps the shrimp bread
combo we're going to go sink these in as
many different deep holes as we can find
[Music]
oh wow wow I'm sinking fast got you come
on
baby come on come on I don't see her
it's right there you just got to reach
down there yep straight yep oh wow oh
that's
her oh gosh oh I got it I got it I got
it I got it out a boy out a boy what is
happening you have caught May four
crawfish in there pound it brother oh
wow then give me that big old meat paw
you got oh wow come on brother yeah jeez
look at there that's what we're after
grave that is perfect bed bass candy
dude you got a giant in here bro oh my
go goly he's pinching he's pinching hard
gra Susan we need help we got a lobster
and he won't let go ex gosh dog I'm not
dealing with him we got a couple more
Chubbies chubs in there gosh some giant
that guy right there is mass oh there's
another one we have done well bro we hit
the honey hole with that one man yeah I
mean dude that's got to be my PB creep
Chum look at the stomach dude need to
take these bad boys and one of those all
you can eat Brazilian
steakhouses they put them out of
business there's one in Atlanta actually
trap number one did US good bro
I don't know why I'm tightening
up crawl ddy there might be a double up
in
there two of them God those pachers are
giants trick is to get right behind the
arms you kind of pinch their arms in
where they can't reach
backwards w
gravy I've rigged up a Carolina rig for
you got a egg Sinker little bead to
protect your knot swivel down to a
pretty light circle hook we're going to
hook up a medium siiz crawl for you oh
come on ah ahud they're firing me up
they're slapping tail a lot there you go
grave look at the clampers on her we
came out here like day and a half ago
and there's like a five or a six pounder
that's just cruising the bank it's the
old Big Mama it's got a tiny male on bed
doing its dirty work for protecting the
old babies don't know how it goes the
goal is to put these crawfish in the
beds and as soon as they get in the beds
the bass are going to slurp them up
think so oh I know instantly or over
under if we can get it in a bed it'll be
dang near immediate I like to hook him
right in the in the tail he's pinching
he's saying Mama quit hooking
me holler if you get a biging
dude y yep yep y y the tiny ones the
tiny ones paint smaller skin which hurts
kind of more
sometimes if we don't catch this fish
then this fish is the smartest large m b
in the Southeast I see them circling my
fingers at the
wind boys oh gosh I might have a good
one real that is real that is I didn't
even realize I had that
no he snapped you didn't he I didn't
know what was supposed to be happening
all right that was a three or four
pounder that was a decent size fish he
ate that one deep man like really really
deep we just got to hope that he was
locked on and not a cruiser cuz if
that's a cruiser he's
gone a shoot shoot
I all
right shoot
day two folks we're back on her pushing
Open Water pushed off the boat ramp
gravy's got work he's a real man what
can we say got a couple islands that we
want to test out the main goal for today
is to put a fish on the upper decks
hopefully more than
one she's smoking a
lot so we just pulled up wow to a little
island like 20 yards off the bank we
just saw some I believe it was hybrid or
striper running on top and now I don't
see nothing so every time you crank this
thing up it's like there's a 18-wheeler
and a train having a baby
[Music]
underwater I don't think all those
were oh yes oh my Lord it does not feel
tiny what do I
have what in the world
what the heck is that
dude a
catfish the lipless crank dude come here
buddy not what
okay everybody relax not many times have
I caught a catfish on an artificial lure
in the mouth hole but they will do it
every now and then especially if they're
in a body of water where they have to
compete for food this healthy little guy
cranked me
dude there we
go catch and release that's what we like
to go for out here you know first fish
dude first fish was a slimy old catfish
I'll take it he fought like a
cat a mean
[Music]
cat come come on
baby where's that Big
O but
[Music]
don't oh there's catfish feeding on
top oh dude there's a bunch of catfish
on top what the heck is
that dude there there's more right
there what the heck is going on
I wonder if they're cruising because
there's all these cicas on the
water
gotcha so we just cruised to the
opposite side of the lake we're seeing
catfish cruising and they're eating
cicas off the top of the water I'm going
to try to put a circle hook through this
dude's tummy maybe a little bobber to
give me some weight so I can cast it out
there and see if we can't get one of
these like 5 lb catfish cruising out
here
[Music]
oh baby oh
baby the weightless cicada
dude we're just in a field of like 50
channel catfish and they're feeding up
on
these go that's not a bad fish
man get up baby come on woo
woo boy there's probably like 50 of
these channel catfish just cruising
around looking for dead cices on top of
the water we had one out I was flying
the Drone around getting some shots of
them swimming around and this dude right
here swam up looks like he's got a
leech there we go don't need that guy
hanging around your throat now you can
go eat cicas in peace man we got no way
of keeping these fish but they are
everywhere we know what they're eating
we're going to try to get a couple more
cicas and see how many more of these bad
little mama jamas we can get up on the
life B enjoy the
drink been watching a lot of Australian
YouTubers
lately something I'm trying out god dude
they're everywhere
[Music]
I got one following oh dude yes that was
awesome dude that's not a bad one he was
just cruising through I was kind of
crisscrossing over his
face oh that was so sick he bit it like
three or four times on the fourth one he
just okay here we go and I don't want to
break my rod flipping a catfish it's
like a five or a six pounder
dude
yeah yeah come on baby get some slime on
those new decks for me not at all what
we intended on doing when we were
building these decks but when you come
out in the middle of a cicada Bloom you
take what you can get I've never seen
this before in my life I don't know if
this is just happening because it's the
biggest cicada boom since like
1808 but that was the coolest catfish
catch of my life oh my goodness dude
oh probably a three up wo that was sorry
get up under those little poisonous fins
there we go probably a three or a four
pounder I bet if you cut this dude's
stomach open it would just be filled
with cices that was such a cool bite
coolest catfish bite in my
life I've never catfish like this it's
insane I can just see them they're all
in the water out here thank you
buddy dude I am punching myself for not
having a
cooler fry them things up boy put them
on the Bobby so kind of a Bittersweet
thing we've been having cicas land on us
all day long I don't know if this is a
Country Wide thing or just in the South
right now but we have these little bugs
that spawn or whatever they reproduce
every 7 years and apparently the catfish
are absolutely loving it the goal is to
try try to find as many of these little
things as we can because I think if they
sit in the water for less than 5 minutes
we're going to have fish on every
time dude literally 60
seconds oh
my oh
baby that's a darker colored
one look at that gu
dude it's a two-footer all day to the
upper deck baby come here yes sir what
have we stumbled upon we need to go get
a 100 cicas and call everyone we know
God I don't know if it's my glasses bro
that is a dark colored fish when I tell
you it's it's literally maybe 2 3
minutes cicada sitting in the water that
one was completely dead
it was just oozing out in the water turn
around the rod tips just bouncing this
morning I thought it was kind of random
that we caught one on a lipless I was
like why are they feeding like this but
this is making total sense dude you can
just watch the top of the water out 30
40 yards you see cicas
everywhere and these guys are just
feeding up on
them going to get this guy back go enjoy
some more cicas my friend
[Music]
on
golly dude he is doing that might be the
biggest
one he was just doing barrel rolls under
there it's like when you first hook them
they're justop another one that I sight
fish just saw them cruising through
there God they're so mean dude look at
that Rod Bend
five pounder that they eat so aggressive
man there we go oh my gosh saw this one
cruising he was at the top of the
surface and then he was about 20 yards
from us Dove down maybe 2 3 ft threw out
there met him perfect again dude he ate
it and just Barrel rolled
just I've never caught catfish like this
it's so freaking cool though just a
chunky tumed up kada eating boy or woman
going to give you the old bow toss
brother thank you
dude G on it's going to freak me out
when a 10lb large mouth just comes
cruising through here eating cicas it's
really weird because they're not hugging
the bank they're just 30 40 yards off
eating all the cicas that are getting
blown across the lake and then when the
cicas get up in those rocks on the bank
the brim are just destroying them
oh
dude that one
my that one my line was all right he
came off I caught that one with my line
