we managed to build a full bot in just

first proven grounds match and lost

so now we have enough parts for two

2.1 no they're they're the same thing
they're just
the exact same Parts times two so we're
fighting daray desay is another vertical
spinner it's got a big drum with two
teeth on either end um it's a pretty
wide bot so it have a very stable stance
but um since this time we're fighting a
vertical spinner and our robot is more
optimized for a vertical spinner I think
we have a good chance we've noticed in
the past FS that disarray is done
they've ran a miniot and we're not sure
if they're going to run it this time but
that could potentially screw up our
Machine Vision because our system our
main motion tracking uses motion
detection and the mini bot is motion so
sometimes it might actually lose
tracking of their bot and go after the
miniot which would not be good are you
worried at all if they bring the
miniot uh for mechanical reasons no for
Peter yes um and the problem is we won't
really be able to test that until
tomorrow as long as we click on the
right bot and we have set the minimum
size right that min mini bot should be
just filtered
out

I'm going to try and make sure the
angle's good we can see like the whole
field it's nice and focus now one of the
new additions this time is we added the
ability to mask out different regions of
the image and that kind of fooled our
our tracking before it was the screws
last time right yeah and I'm just going
to draw a rectangle and then block them
out so now it shouldn't get fooled if
they move cuz they're gone
so I glued the magnet arrays on Saturday
and Sunday packed them up threw them in
the crate so now we have to do is take
them put the Emi shield in the back and
drop them into the robot we have to just
kind of get them in there hopefully
pinch no fingers I have got gloves for a
reason and then we should be stuck to
the ground with 100 lb more

Forks good we are installing the
batteries for the first time at the
BattleBots Arena well not not the first
time but like the first time here we're
going to do a full system check make
sure we have full communication with the
controllers all the motor temperatures
look good and then we're going to the
Box we're going to do our uh Drive
testing and tuning so we're going to
make sure we're tuning with the magnets
we have the right wheels on in place now
so we're going to make sure we have as
much traction as we can get we going to
tune the speeds the accelerations the
turn radiuses the camera overlay test
all of our software changes and make
sure our camera mount is perfect and if
all goes well we'll be ready to fight

let's address the elephant in the room
here so in our first fight we had our
PlayStation 5 dual sense controller
connected via USB to Peter's laptop and
at some point during the match we know
exactly what point it decided to
disconnect so we said screw wireless
controllers and we have these Microsoft
officially licensed Xbox controllers
that are just wired and then we have one
and another one and another
one and another one we're not having a
controller disconnect this
time
it's Center Board One Drive working on
it Peter we have radio we have radio
okay we lost the
radio every team has offse break the
indicator light on this side so we are
going to fix
that sound
yeah um it made a terrible popping noise
when I turned it
on yeah so do we have anything are we
talking anything right now nothing okay
we're calling
it I'm going to grab you go down that

sure okay yeah I'm worried wir let's
just pull that side off that side's easy
to pull off we never saw this drive turn
on that might have been what blew up
yeah to the front is the best canot get
power I do not
know well we pinched our
backlight cables and that's a bit of a
problem because the backlight goes
directly to the batteries so our motor
drivers aren't working and motor dri
aren working the motor's aren working
and the bot's not working so we're going
to try to cut the cables here where
they're pinched you can see all that's
exposed cut splice add the new length on
and hopefully nothing's permanently
damaged and it works the switch BW when
he
starts switch
pop the only thing that appears to be
normal is the drive
yeah I don't know what else I'm
expecting to get out of this we know
that the dryve vesque we know the one
drve vesk is somewhat alive we know that
weapon desk is somewhat alive so right
now we know that this ESC is probably
not dead yes we don't know about the
this one cuz we couldn't turn it on
let's fix the can and then see if the
drive comes on

okay so we know a couple things are
wrong this switch may not survive um we
know our can harness took some damage we
know one of our switches is
dead and we that's all we know we have
to fix those two items before we can
actually go and diagnose other things

more we fixed a power switch and the
Cann bu harness and the end indicator
light wires and we're hoping that will
fix absolutely everything but then this
is the the bar that wasn't working right
now we see the VES Express and that
drive as soon as I try to reload it just
dies totally oh oh no I mean when we had
power this's plan team replace three
motor controllers all three that kind of
out of the robot so we get to see how
quickly we can replace them
now
right now we have three working escs in
the robot and one not
working yeah so then tomorrow we have to
get another working ESC in there okay
whatever that means not a good first
day before we fight and potentially
watch our hopes and dreams go up in
Flames like last time I want to tell you

luck where we at we kind of ended last
night not knowing what's up we came in
this morning with a fresh set of eyes
and determined that the issue was
nothing that we thought it was yay for
fresh set of eyes we replaced the
controller board that was bad we did not
replace the motor controller from
yesterday so now we have to go take it
back outside and do the full Suite of
calibration on all the motors and yeah I
guess on all the motors and then make
sure we're good and get
testing okay I'm going to switch to the
other one make sure that forward is in
fact forward
clear we have four motor controllers
working in the robot they have spun up
all the motors we are just going through
verifying the firmware on all the boards
s going to button up the robot get the
weapons on in the Box this robot's
throwing with my with my emotions I
don't know it works it doesn't work it
kind of works it kind of doesn't work
everything's closed up and we're seeing
all the data now and it's being very
responsive so I'm really
hopeful I'm trying to connect to it what
you're not seeing right here is we're
having control issues with the robot
we're not getting data from the computer
at a regular interval and that just
makes the robot uncontrollable we can't
fight with the robot in this
condition what's
happening this board is really something
about this assembly is like he so it's
happy right now and we do this and it's

dead so this wire that is supposed to be
soldered to there just
isn't

yes so our next hypothesis is just the
antenna got damaged I still don't know
why these guys aren't working properly
but these ones have been notoriously
worse than the center board so we're our
next test is to try swapping the antenna
and um hopefully that'll fix it in the
diagnostic process we got to the point
where we're basically tearing out the
center board uh so we're just going to
replace it with another
one
don't stop point to get the robot Tong
don't mess
up that was good except for I'm holding
a magnet in my hand we're going to look
at the magnet arrays if we sheared the
threads out then we're not going to run
the magnets if the screws just loosened
out from vibrations we're going to lock
tap the screws and run the magnets we're
going to change the
batteries and get

everything we can the boss powering up
all of our drivers are connecting we
have at least improved our communication
we've seen a drive our Forks are working
at least a little bit better so I'm
hopeful yeah I'm ready all I have to do

there's some chips on the weapon discs
maybe a little more than we were hoping
for but we destroyed their ar500 weapon
and armor but I think I don't think
we're changing anything
yeah every time you win a battle B you
get a wind POG and the idea is you put
them on the side of your Bot like kills
like in World War II you know you put
like a whatever right kill count yeah

went right was we had traction we could
move controllably my favorite clip is
the very first few seconds of the match
when you know we claimed the center
really quick and then we adjusted for
where they were going I think what needs
to change in terms of Mobility is I was
over steering quite a lot so I think
there's some stability stuff we can do
to start the radio's actually performed
so that's the big thing we could talk to
the robot unfortunately we were
struggling to lock the vision we got it
around halfway through but then they
were under the camera spot so I couldn't
really there wasn't much it could track
cuz it's literally just blocked off but
and then the match ended and I was like
wait it's over like what cuz I was just
looking at the screen and then suddenly
we're walking off so I'm I was like
confused we got to take the forks off
we're just going to drop new ones on
we're going to change out the bar we're
going to clean up the disc bend the self

happier

so after our fight yesterday we went
rebuild the robot fixed everything that
was broken we got it back in the box
with the old Wheels the ones we were
testing in the morning so now we're
going to put it back in the box for more
time make sure that everything's good
because we are and we want to test AI
stuff and then we're going to take it
back to the pits pull the side armor
panels off swap the wheels get new
batteries in it and be ready for our
next fight around

in just as much of One Piece as it was
last time and the robot is in
significantly more pieces than it was

for literally anymore this is the first
round where we've actually broken the
barrier of human control it was a
honestly minor difference but to say
that we've done it now just feels so
good and we got the data so we can keep
improving I'm just happy we're off the
ground All Things Considered everything
went awesome the team did a great job
diagnosing and fixing the robot during
the kind of Trials of Friday and
Saturday morning the repairs last night
went beautiful we were had no concerns
about being ready for the fight today
and both fights just went really well
they went really as well as we could
have asked it was a lot of fun I'm glad
we did
this now that's what I'm talking about I
wish I could have been there shortly
after the fight the co-founder of
BattleBots had this to say they came um
you know like a month ago or whatever
and they lost both fights and then they
came this time and they won both fights
you know so he kind of looked at their
mistakes they made they found ways to
fix them they found ways to make them
better I guarantee you when they show up
for the TV tournament you know which
they will they're going to be way ahead
of everybody else that doesn't you know
doesn't come play in the in the
opportunity with the Proving Grounds so
we're pretty confident that we're going
to be on the TV show but we have our
work cut out for us if we want to win
against legendary veterans like
