Transcripts

00:00

hey what's up everybody welcome back to

00:02

another episode of B is for boat we're

00:04

out here working on my boat why you may

00:06

ask because about a month ago I got a

00:08

phone call on my birthday saying your

00:10

boat has sank and it did it sank so we

00:13

called a dive team we got it refloated

00:15

we pumped all the water out cleaned it

00:17

up and the first step we did was get the

00:18

engines just running again after we got

00:20

the engines running we dried everything

00:22

out we reworked a lot of the electronics

00:24

and we checked everything that was

00:26

broken on the boat we gave you guys a a

00:28

detailed report in the last episode of

00:29

everything that didn't make it through

00:31

the sinkage in today's episode we're all

00:33

about fixing all that stuff replacing

00:35

everything that we can that was in stock

00:36

and that we could order we're going to

00:37

replace all of those things then we're

00:39

going to tune the engines and take the

00:40

boat out for the first time since

00:43

sinking the goal is to get this thing

00:45

out on the water for the first time

00:47

since it sank just basically verifying

00:49

that it can still boat around and do

00:51

boat stuff that's what's in store for

00:53

today's episode let's get to it all

00:54

right guys to get started we're actually

00:56

going to jump you right back into some

00:58

work we just did at the shop all right

00:59

we're back back at the shop now uh right

01:01

behind me you'll see our new purchase

01:03

you're going to be this is a long story

01:05

why we're even going down this road but

01:06

it'll all make sense eventually so I

01:08

just uh Oscar and I just picked this up

01:10

off of Facebook Marketplace this is like

01:12

a virtually brand new 7 horsepower what

01:16

is the brand on this thing you might

01:17

think it's a Yamaha but it's a

01:21

hangai yep anyways it's a specimen it

01:24

looks great and this is a 7 horsepower

01:26

motor and it costs only $250 $50 and

01:31

then what I had in my storage at the old

01:33

shop a dingy this thing did float the

01:37

last time I tried it out uh as you can

01:40

maybe kind of see by the amount of sand

01:41

on it that was in the ocean so why are

01:43

we building a second boat you might ask

01:46

okay so we need to tune our engines we

01:47

need to get them tuned up and running

01:49

perfectly good cannot tune the engines

01:51

inside the marina because if something

01:53

goes wrong and the engines run rich

01:54

it'll spit a little bit of gas part

01:56

particles and stuff in the exhaust it

01:58

spits it out the exhaust and then it

02:00

makes the marina look really bad if

02:01

there's gas on the water it's like a

02:03

it's an absolute no-go it's something we

02:04

can't risk so we need to move the boat

02:06

out into the river um and we could tune

02:08

it out there just a lot less um

02:11

liability ton less liability so I

02:14

figured you know we could hire somebody

02:15

to tow us out there or we could try a 7

02:18

horsepower output motor and a dinghy to

02:21

tow a 26,000 lb 44 foot long yacht what

02:25

could go wrong all right we're going to

02:26

test inflate the dinghy and test Mount

02:28

the motor

02:29

[Music]

02:40

[Music]

02:46

mingy now this didn't actually come with

02:48

the boat I got this in a in a business

02:50

deal uh I don't know like second year B

02:53

for build or something anyways uh we we

02:55

filled it up and we've got some got some

02:57

leakage around the valv and I think it's

02:59

caused by the sand so we're going to

03:01

have to uh unfill it it's similar to

03:04

sinking about actually it's just get

03:07

some soy watero yeah soy watero yeah

03:10

miss you Chris viix can't wait to see

03:11

you oh by the way I'm going to visit

03:13

Chris and tarish when I'm out uh there

03:15

I'm driving in the freedom 500 I guess I

03:17

haven't made that announcement on the

03:18

YouTube channel I did on Instagram I'm

03:19

driving in the freedom 500 over at the

03:21

freedom Factory first place gets a

03:23

helicopter so I'm I'm taking it very

03:25

seriously I've practiced driving left a

03:27

lot um and uh I'm really I'm really

03:31

excited so I'll give you guys more

03:32

information tickets already sold out but

03:33

you can live stream it and I'll give you

03:35

more information as we get a little bit

03:36

closer to that uh but it's going to be

03:38

really really fun so uh but I am going

03:40

to go see Chris fix and tar so let me

03:41

know if there's anything you guys want

03:42

me to maybe film for the the second

03:44

Channel or anything else like that oh

03:46

and while I mentioned in the second

03:47

Channel I'll put a link right here down

03:48

in the description to our second channel

03:50

it's just kind of behind the scenes

03:51

stuff and a lot of people had asked me

03:52

to get more in depth on the insurance

03:54

and what happened with the boat how much

03:55

money we expecting to get from the

03:57

insurance company and why I feel like I

03:59

kind of got scammed and all that good

04:01

stuff so we will be talking about that

04:03

uh and there's an episode right now on

04:05

the second Channel and so now we deflate

04:07

the

04:17

[Music]

04:23

boat dude this thing is going to rip I'm

04:26

excited so it says on the back here uh

04:29

the the uh the official documentation

04:32

board uh it wants Max of four horsepower

04:34

so we're almost doubling that which is

04:36

straight up the Beast for build alley uh

04:38

I'm so excited about this like this is a

04:40

great Facebook Marketplace find this

04:42

thing's pretty much brand new uh what

04:44

was the story didn't the guy say he

04:45

bought it for his boat and it just

04:46

couldn't get his boat going quite fast

04:47

enough said he had like a big section in

04:50

between the boat the motor and where he

04:52

sat so he just couldn't reach it oh yeah

04:55

oh just got rid of it yeah I mean it's

04:57

pretty much brand new uh we're going to

04:59

go ahead and Fire up for you uh it's

05:01

looking like as far as it's height like

05:03

going into the water I think we're

05:04

that's I don't know enough about boating

05:06

and boats and stuff but um I'm going to

05:09

learn uh but uh that that looks pretty

05:11

good to me uh we figured out some stuff

05:13

with the forwards and the reverse and

05:14

the gearing and everything like that um

05:16

Oscar's going to go ahead and give it a

05:17

start unless it's is it too high up or

05:20

uh I'll try yeah so let there's a primer

05:24

right yep one two

05:27

three look out grard coming grindhard

05:32

coming cry hard Plumbing here we come

05:35

you ready yeah

05:38

sure nice a weak hole too yeah this is a

05:42

fourstroke uh motor so it's nice and

05:44

it's quiet um so are we in gear right

05:47

there no it's a neutral it's a neutral

05:49

just it okay so let's give it this

05:53

forward there we go that's neutral and

05:57

that's uh

05:58

reverse oh man I'm so excited for this

06:01

thing SS nice yeah you want to give us

06:03

some

06:09

revs

06:12

nice sounds like a lawn mower it's a

06:15

good lawn mower 7 horsepower lawn mower

06:17

you kill it right here yeah

06:21

cool dude this this is awesome all right

06:24

so we're going to leave this for the

06:25

rest of the day and make sure it doesn't

06:27

deflate on us before we take it to the

06:28

water tomorrow

06:30

want to take a quick second out to thank

06:31

our sponsor today's episode is sponsored

06:33

by Carly so everybody has seen just your

06:35

standard OBD2 scanner but this is much

06:38

much more you get manufacturer level

06:40

Diagnostics you get customization

06:42

through coding you can get live data

06:43

which I'm going to show you in a second

06:44

to diagnose a multitude of different

06:46

problems and service functions so there

06:49

is a ton of stuff packed into this guy

06:51

and the app which I'm going to show you

06:52

right now let's go ahead and jump into

06:53

my Range Rover and take a look so like I

06:55

said before the Carly app and scanner

06:57

can provide manufacturer level

06:58

Diagnostics cing customization and

07:00

access to hidden information inside your

07:02

car and you always want to check the

07:04

website to see what works with your car

07:06

so this is my daily driver and it's had

07:07

a few issues here and there and I've

07:08

used Carly on in the past so it's got my

07:10

history here and I'm going to go ahead

07:11

and run a diagnostic scan to see where

07:12

we're sitting now while this is scanning

07:14

I want to mention something else I think

07:15

is really cool is is Carly's very DIY

07:17

focused it's the idea is help keep you

07:19

out of the dealership and let you work

07:21

on your own car and help you uh diagnose

07:24

issues help you maintain your car's

07:26

health and help you unlock really cool

07:27

features inside your car that you may

07:29

not know where ever there all right my

07:31

diagnostic scan is complete and I'll be

07:33

honest it doesn't look good so the red

07:35

ones are the ones that I really focus on

07:36

those are critical so on the critical

07:38

one we only have one and that's the

07:39

catalytic converter which I actually

07:40

already knew about my catalytic

07:42

converter is a little special but some I

07:44

didn't know about is the transfer case

07:45

is mad it says that we've got an actual

07:48

change over solenoid which is voltage is

07:49

high and then it says that we've got

07:51

some system voltage unstable so let's go

07:54

ahead and jump into the smart mechanic

07:56

and see what it's got to say about that

07:57

so it says that's related to under

07:59

voltage or over voltage issues

08:02

potentially in the car and now that I

08:03

think of it some of these codes are

08:04

stored in the history of the vehicle and

08:06

I actually know why we would be having

08:08

voltage issues so that code was old and

08:10

why we had voltage issues is about 2

08:11

months ago my alternator went out and

08:14

now I've got a new alternator but it

08:15

makes an interesting sound and that's

08:16

why I'm going to jump into another

08:17

feature of the Carly which is the live

08:19

data cuz I want to read the live data on

08:21

my alternator and see how it's doing I'm

08:23

going to go ahead and fire it

08:25

[Music]

08:26

up and let's look and find the voltage

08:29

right here we can see our battery

08:30

voltage a nice 14 volts uh and that

08:33

means it's running well and it's

08:34

charging up the battery like it should I

08:35

had heard some sounds and I thought it

08:37

might have been fluctuating but it's

08:38

holding very nice and steady and I think

08:41

everything's good so guys if you don't

08:42

already have Carly I highly suggest it

08:44

check out the link in my description

08:46

right now to pick yours up and if you

08:48

use my code B is for build 24 you can

08:50

save 15% off of your Carly order huge

08:53

thanks to Carly for sponsoring this

08:54

episode let's get back to it guys we

08:56

made it down to the boat we put the boat

08:58

on the boat uh we forgot to bring enough

09:00

life jackets to be able to go test the

09:02

boat but we will we will definitely do

09:04

that shortly we got a ton of new stuff

09:06

and another hair brand idea to start off

09:08

this day we're going to start working on

09:09

the fuel system fuel water system so the

09:14

idea is now we're going to build an

09:16

inline fuel puller outer of the tank

09:19

Runner through the filters and drop it

09:20

back in the tank system a loop a

09:23

filtration loop system so I bought fuel

09:25

pumps I bought filters I got hoses let's

09:27

see what we can construct

09:29

all right guys sorry I apologize by the

09:31

time I got done doing this it got a

09:32

little dark but here's what we got going

09:34

on this is a small feed line from our

09:37

fuel cell that's a return line from our

09:39

to our fuel cell um that is the 300g

09:42

fuel cell that may have water in it

09:44

we're not really sure uh it runs from

09:46

the feed line up into an inline fuel

09:48

pump into a uh fuel filter and water

09:52

separator and another fuel filter water

09:53

separator then back down and then into

09:56

the tank what I hold right here is a

09:58

little switch that runs the uh runs all

10:01

the way back to our batteries back there

10:02

that will turn this on Oscar's work

10:05

working on wiring up that battery and

10:07

then I'm going to hit this switch and

10:08

I'm really going to hope that this fuel

10:10

pump can prime that far cuz it's uh

10:13

that's a challenging run to do that's

10:14

like 4et vertical uh but it' be great if

10:17

it could cuz I don't want to have to

10:19

prime it myself you might also be able

10:21

to hear there's a little bit of a pump

10:22

running we are doing another oil change

10:24

on the engines I think we're going to be

10:25

on our last oil change that was like

10:28

three or four oil changes total to get

10:30

all the water circulated out of the

10:31

engines this one is a lot better but

10:32

that one had a little little too much

10:34

oil in it for our liking too much water

10:37

oh yeah yeah oil's good water's not uh

10:39

so we good Oscar yeah all right I'm

10:41

going to flip this all right let's

10:44

see it's making sounds there we

10:49

go that's interesting and then we're

10:52

over

10:54

here and I guess we're now going back

10:57

into the tank um what's gas and what's

11:02

water who

11:04

knows all right guys it's the next day

11:07

and uh I learned something we drained a

11:09

little bit of this out of here and uh as

11:11

you can see it doesn't look very

11:13

gasoline and you would be right it's

11:15

water it's like pretty much 100% water

11:17

it is definitely not even

11:19

flammable um it's water so that means

11:22

that you know the these are going to go

11:24

down to the bottom of the tank Gas and

11:26

Water separate so you're going to see

11:27

that the gas is always going to be

11:28

floating above the water gas is going to

11:30

stay up here water's going to be down

11:32

there so this is going to be pulling

11:33

from the bottom of the tank it's going

11:34

to be pulling up the water that's in the

11:37

tank it's a lot more than I thought it

11:38

was going to be so rather than trying to

11:41

separate it a cup at a time we're just

11:43

going to start pumping the gas out of

11:46

the tank into some buckets well sorry I

11:50

we're not pumping gas out into buckets

11:52

we're actually pumping the water out

11:53

into the buckets um and then uh if we

11:57

start getting into pure gas or what

11:59

looks like pure gas then we can start

12:00

running it through these gas water

12:03

separators and uh have a shot at getting

12:05

it really really clean but for now we

12:08

got a probably got a lot of water in

12:10

there so got to do our best to get it

12:12

all out let's go a shot I don't know why

12:14

we got the lighter so close to the uh

12:17

gas water mixture it's because honestly

12:19

off film I tried to light it on fire

12:21

last night and uh it doesn't so this is

12:23

just all water um you I wish you could

12:26

smell it on the camera but it's uh it

12:28

literally smells smells like nothing it

12:29

just smells like a little kind of skunky

12:32

water and um well we'll let you know how

12:35

much we get out of here I estimated when

12:37

I when I popped the cap off of the fuel

12:39

cell it looked like it was at about half

12:41

which is where we thought we left it as

12:42

far as gas goes so you know we could

12:45

have I don't think we have 100 gallons

12:48

of water in there definitely not but we

12:51

could have 20 30 40 I'd be surprised if

12:54

it was over 50 but let's see all right

12:57

that's five gallons of water down all

12:59

right that's 10 gallons of water we

13:00

brought five of these total so let's

13:02

hope we don't fill them all these all

13:04

have to go to the recycling center and

13:06

it is such a pain so imagine after we

13:08

fill these all up we have to take a huge

13:09

break put these all in the cars and

13:10

trucks and drive them to recycling

13:11

center and drive all the way back it

13:13

takes a long time well forgot to record

13:16

the next one but that's 15 great weather

13:18

day we got today nice windy rainy if

13:22

it's high winds like this we're not

13:23

going to be able to use the dinghy idea

13:25

cuz the winds will overpower the dinghy

13:26

for sure uh anyways we filled up uh five

13:29

5 G buckets so we got to take those to

13:31

the recycling center do another round

13:34

before it's too dark starting off this

13:36

day a little bit differently in the most

13:39

dangerous parking garage in the world

13:41

which is always going to be a Hospital

13:43

parking garage because let's just say

13:44

there's a lot of people that aren't very

13:45

good at driving in these things anyways

13:49

those of you that have been watching the

13:50

channel for a long time know that uh I

13:52

had cancer cancer diagnosis about 2 and

13:55

a half well about 3 years ago uh did

13:57

surgery did treatment

13:59

did blah blah blah but I'm still in a

14:01

phase where I have to uh continue uh

14:04

with monitoring which is just like you

14:06

know keep looking at my body doing scans

14:09

and hoping I don't have any uh any like

14:12

reoccurrences or the cancer doesn't uh

14:14

didn't spread too far cuz I had a very

14:16

very dangerous um very intrusive uh

14:19

cancer that spread to my lymph nodes

14:20

anywh who very happy to tell you guys

14:22

all that um I I just went in I got scans

14:26

I got my skin all checked over I got

14:28

everything and the results have came

14:29

back and they're all perfect so that is

14:31

wonderful um 2 and 1/2 years of cancer

14:35

free for this guy we should hear right

14:38

before SEMA is my Benchmark for year

14:41

three so looking forward to that I'm

14:43

very this getting those results back is

14:46

always such a big booster to my life and

14:48

just my mental and everything so it's so

14:51

awesome and I'm so excited to um link up

14:54

with the guys and get back to it so

14:58

there have been good things going on

15:00

with

15:01

gas I'll go show you all right back of

15:04

the boat and you can see that our gas

15:06

water separators look a lot more gas and

15:08

a lot less water by that I mean 100% gas

15:12

so here's the story of what the guys

15:13

accomplished while I was at the hospital

15:15

what happened was we pumped all of the

15:17

water out of the system just from this

15:19

uh this feed line right there pumped it

15:20

all out got into our buckets got it out

15:22

of there so it started coming out gas

15:23

but then once in a while the boat would

15:25

have a Little Rock to it and a little

15:27

bit of water would start to show up in

15:29

our water gas separators and that is

15:31

because there's something down here it's

15:33

very hard to see but the hole of the

15:34

boat is shaped like a V and the fuel

15:37

cell follows the hole of the boat so the

15:40

bottom of the fuel cell is actually a v

15:42

the gas in the water the gas sits very

15:44

well on top of the water so what

15:46

happened is we pumped from wherever that

15:48

feed line is we pumped out to there and

15:50

got all that water gone but once it got

15:52

right down there if the boat went this

15:54

way the water's going to go that side

15:55

the boat would go this way and we'd

15:57

start picking up water again so that was

15:58

no good we had to get further down into

16:00

that fuel cell so we knew we had to come

16:02

up with an idea that could get us to the

16:03

bottom of the fuel tank so that was

16:05

copper we went down to the hardware

16:06

store and got some copper tubing put it

16:07

through the fuel uh level sending area

16:10

and then ran it down straight to the

16:12

bottom where we got another 3 to four

16:14

gallons of water out of there before it

16:16

became pure gas now we've been running

16:18

it through here to check and we're pure

16:20

gas so I'm happy with this um the

16:23

research that I've done and everything

16:24

that I've seen shows that very much gas

16:27

and water don't really stay mix so I

16:29

think if we got the water out of this

16:30

gas this gas is going to run well so

16:33

right now what we're going to do is

16:34

we're actually going to go off of our

16:36

auxiliary fuel cell we're going to

16:37

detach that we're going to reattach our

16:39

whole standard fuel um flow and the the

16:42

way that it has always worked and we're

16:44

going to start running these engines off

16:45

of the fuel

16:47

[Music]

16:57

tank

16:58

[Music]

17:01

[Applause]

17:01

[Music]

17:06

[Applause]

17:08

while Oscar is working on plumbing and

17:09

I'm helping look I'm holding this uh I

17:12

wanted to tell you guys about another

17:13

thing that we did a little bit off

17:14

camera which was we added ballast to the

17:16

back of the boat so we removed some

17:17

really really heavyweight AGM batteries

17:20

two from that side and two from that

17:21

side we replaced them with a lot lighter

17:23

batteries and we might replace even more

17:25

with even more lightweight lithium ion

17:26

batteries so we needed to add some more

17:29

balance cuz the boat was getting a

17:30

little too front heavy looking and I was

17:32

worried that it was going to affect the

17:33

flow of the exhaust so we used a laser

17:35

level and we actually checked our height

17:37

to the world from the uh the exhaust

17:39

manifold and going out we have plenty of

17:41

height on these engines they're still

17:42

flowing downhill that's all great but I

17:46

still wanted to even out the boat so we

17:47

just started packing bags of concrete

17:49

back here this is a trick that somebody

17:50

told me about that had also had one of

17:52

these boats and did a did a gas engine

17:54

swap on them and uh so the hope is that

17:57

these bags of concrete will soak up

17:58

moisture and stuff from the air and in

18:00

different areas and there's actually

18:01

kind of honestly it's organ there's

18:03

plenty of rain around and they'll turn

18:04

into big rocks and basically help be

18:06

permanent ballast in the back of the

18:08

boat so they're packed in there we've

18:09

got 14 bags of concrete back there and

18:11

uh let me jump outside the boat and I'll

18:13

show you how well it works so don't mind

18:15

Peter there he's pressure washing he's

18:16

one of the guys that helped us get the

18:17

boat out of the water but when we look

18:19

at our the amount that we're out of the

18:21

water from the front to the back we're

18:23

almost perfectly even which means we're

18:25

much better than when we uh than where

18:27

we were when we actually originally did

18:29

the engine swap so that that little bit

18:32

of ballast really did help get us a lot

18:34

lot closer to level and it's so much so

18:37

much better than how we were like 2 days

18:40

ago all right guys we are all the way

18:42

plumbed up as far as our original fuel

18:44

tank with the original gas that did sink

18:47

is plum back up into the engines this

18:49

going to be quite interesting but I

18:50

think it'll be just fine I want to show

18:51

you something that is going to impact

18:52

our day quite a bit there it's a little

18:55

bit hard to see but uh you kind of see

18:57

that there's like a little bit of

18:58

Rippling off of this post and uh off of

19:01

this buoy there is so much water flowing

19:04

this way the Marina's got a crazy amount

19:07

of flow to it right now that is pushing

19:09

everything this way we definitely cannot

19:12

tow with the dinghy when there is this

19:15

much current I've never even seen this

19:16

much current in the river um happening

19:18

so we're not going to be able to uh to

19:20

use the dinghy uh to pull this out but

19:23

um we do have another idea which we're

19:25

going to execute right now okay we have

19:26

two problems that we're approaching here

19:28

is we're trying to tun tun these engines

19:29

when they run rich we're getting gas

19:30

coming out the exhaust the other problem

19:32

that we have and I don't know if we

19:33

mentioned this is we put brand new O2

19:35

sensors on each engine and we blew them

19:37

both nearly immediately that means we

19:38

have too much water in our exhaust for

19:40

whatever reason and uh well it just

19:43

happened we don't really know why and we

19:44

need to work around it since the time

19:45

that we built these little extender

19:47

doohickeys we've never blown an O2

19:49

sensor so it was very weird my thoughts

19:52

is maybe we didn't clear enough of the

19:54

water out of the exhaust system before

19:56

we plugged them in and ran them so um

19:58

there's kind of a solution for both of

20:00

these things and it is to build in a

20:01

switch into our raw water pump so we can

20:03

turn them on and turn them off the raw

20:05

water pumps pump uh the water from

20:07

outside in the marina up through that

20:09

heat exchanger and it comes back out the

20:11

exhaust so the other thing that that's

20:12

going to do is stop us from shooting any

20:14

excess gas out the exhaust because the

20:17

water was really the delivery mechanism

20:19

that was pushing it out into the marina

20:21

so we can definitely start tuning these

20:22

things and running them and we're going

20:24

to have less likelihood of blowing our

20:25

O2 sensors and we'll have virtually no

20:28

likelihood of spitting any gas into the

20:29

marina so it's kind of a win-win the

20:31

only downside is we can't run them for a

20:33

super long time or you'll heat up these

20:35

rubber hoses past their um acceptable

20:38

temperature so we're going to go ahead

20:39

and do that we're going to put an inline

20:40

switch into the raw water pumps so we

20:42

can turn them on when we want and turn

20:43

them off when we want and then we can

20:44

start plugging in the computer and uh

20:46

getting a little tuning going so if you

20:48

guys want to see what's going on here a

20:50

lot of what I'm looking at the engine is

20:51

running great now these are a lot of the

20:53

parameters uh learning status is that

20:56

it's it's making some changes and you

20:57

can see the learn amount is 3% which is

20:59

not much Clos Loop that means it it's

21:02

making its own changes on the Fly that's

21:04

percentage is 2% so it's really close

21:06

this is a target air fuel ratio and then

21:08

that's what it's actually reading so

21:10

we're right there in the Target the fuel

21:12

table shouldn't look like this this is

21:13

really brutal cuz I was working on just

21:14

this section so what you do later is you

21:16

call smoothing it out and you make it

21:18

kind of have a linear a flow to it so

21:21

you don't have these big drop offs these

21:23

big large changes but also the system if

21:26

you drive the boat enough will actually

21:27

just figure it all out for you too but

21:29

what we got going on now is now that

21:31

we're running as doy metric so we're not

21:33

shooting gas out the exhaust we're not

21:36

doing anything bad to the marina which

21:38

is great we've got the water pump

21:39

re-engaged and uh so that's keeping the

21:41

engine temperature good manifold there

21:43

cooling temperature yeah it's at 179

21:45

that's perfect so all this stuff is

21:47

really really good and we're very very

21:50

happy that is yeah that's enough for me

21:53

to be really happy with this left engine

21:55

um being 100% back so now we're going to

21:58

go ahead and work on the other guy while

21:59

working on that um Coast Guard radio I

22:02

really want to go out today so this is

22:03

our this is our uh radio that can call

22:06

like you can hail the Coast Guard and

22:07

stuff like that standard Bool radio uh

22:09

we lost it in the in the uh sinkage so

22:11

we got a new one let's go ahead and get

22:13

it

22:13

[Music]

22:19

[Applause]

22:21

[Music]

22:27

installed

22:32

[Music]

22:34

in the last episode we mentioned about

22:35

how our stereos had a really good run at

22:38

being waterproof they did not like being

22:40

fully submerged so we picked up these

22:42

guys um I'm sure a lot of you people

22:44

that have Sho for stereos in the last uh

22:46

decade know about this but they make

22:48

ones that don't take CDs anymore um

22:49

because nobody has CDs anymore and

22:51

that's pretty cool they're really cheap

22:53

I think this is like 60 bucks and boss

22:55

actually does a lot of boat stereo stuff

22:58

too so although this isn't a boat stair

23:01

they do make them so it's even more

23:02

shallow a little more shallow packaging

23:04

it's pretty cool we're going to go ahead

23:06

and wire one of these in right there

23:08

I've got three of them jeez did we buy

23:10

three of those yes there's three of them

23:11

over

23:12

there um I think maybe there were 30

23:15

they're either $3 or $60 a piece I can't

23:16

remember but um they got all the

23:18

features all the functionality that we

23:19

need it's mainly just Bluetooth but it's

23:21

also got radio and it's got a USB

23:22

charger and all that good stuff so uh

23:24

yeah we'll swap out that one for that

23:26

one I'm over here working on the exhaust

23:27

we got that one uh fully installed

23:30

getting this one

23:31

[Music]

23:50

installed well we got the stereo

23:52

installed it's getting a little dark um

23:54

but it's got It's got one minor problem

23:57

I'll give you one guess yeah I think he

23:59

nailed it anyway so uh we're going to go

24:00

ahead and test out this stereo and see

24:03

uh if it has the same problem and then

24:05

we'll come up with a solution so we ran

24:08

into a problem but it's also a really

24:10

good opportunity to learn more about the

24:12

boat and keep making improvements so

24:14

it's kind of like a problem that's not

24:15

really a problem so here's the deal the

24:18

old stereo is a little different than

24:19

the new stereo but both stereos in

24:21

general the issue was is that they were

24:24

they're basically staying on so this one

24:25

had an option to like go off but it

24:27

never went fully off the other one

24:29

doesn't have an option to go fully off

24:31

it just runs um it just runs a clock it

24:35

that's like as off as it goes so we need

24:37

to have a switch but what that tells us

24:39

is this power that was running into this

24:41

it goes directly like from the battery

24:42

it does not care about anything inside

24:44

the circuit board uh over there all of

24:47

the switches over there none of them

24:48

control the power that was going to the

24:50

stereo or actually this uh weird 24v

24:53

Outlet there so that stuff's always

24:55

powered on so here's what we're going to

24:57

do to have L stuff that takes residual

24:59

drain on this boat Oscar popped the face

25:02

off of this uh Outlet bank here and what

25:04

this is is 110 that most likely doesn't

25:06

work anymore TV that I have no idea why

25:09

they have a coax fuel plug there some

25:10

weird European thing got no idea and

25:12

then a 24v European style plug uh none

25:15

of that stuff gets used so what we're

25:18

going to go ahead and do is I'm going to

25:19

take this uh I'm going to take this face

25:21

plate home I'm going to take

25:22

measurements off of it and what I'm

25:23

going to go ahead and do is build

25:24

another face plate it's going to have

25:26

two things it's going to have one a

25:27

switch that'll turn on and off the power

25:29

that goes to the stereo and then the so

25:31

it'll be like a stereo onof switch and

25:33

then the other as I'll go ahead and put

25:36

a uh 24 volts um to USB charger just so

25:40

we have another USB charger on the boat

25:42

um so it's actually doing stuff that

25:44

will get used potentially rather than

25:46

nothing all right guys it is the next

25:48

day and it is an absolutely beautiful

25:50

day to get this boat out on the water I

25:52

mean we're on the water right but you

25:53

know actually go boating so we've uh

25:55

we've got the deck down so we've got

25:57

some more space to work Oscar and going

25:58

to double team a few things Oscar's

26:00

going to uh work on wiring in the stereo

26:02

inside I got some switches last night

26:04

that are going to allow us to turn the

26:06

stereo completely off we're going to

26:07

install a switch on this one too it's

26:09

like the ignition for a car stereo

26:12

[Music]

26:27

basically

26:30

all right starting with the inside radio

26:32

let's see if we can get you some fuzz

26:34

nope that's copyrighted okay um and then

26:36

the off switch very good we got the UND

26:38

seat stereo right here Oscar go ahead

26:40

and flip the

26:42

switch and that's the clock and then

26:45

power get you some

26:47

fuzz there we go and probably the most

26:50

important detail this is the uh the

26:52

radio that we can ha the Coast Guard

26:53

with that's Coast Guard channel so

26:54

that's all good all right we're going to

26:57

check the transmission fluid levels and

26:59

then uh fire this thing up and get out

27:01

of here oh God guys I don't even really

27:03

know how to explain what the last 24

27:05

hours have been like so um last clip we

27:08

were like all right we're ready to go

27:09

we're going to we're going to back the

27:10

boat out and then we noticed like one of

27:12

the engines looked like it was running a

27:14

little rich like a little bit extra uh

27:17

Fuel and so we're like huh let's take a

27:19

look at that and then I checked my air

27:20

fuel ratios and both the O2 sensors just

27:24

pegged they were on both engines they

27:26

both like gave up oh that's really weird

27:29

so then we started fighting with O2

27:30

sensors last night Midway through last

27:32

night I kid you not the O2 sensors just

27:36

started reading perfectly again and

27:38

everything got fine with O2 sensors

27:40

super bizarre situation there so what I

27:42

want to do and to to to fix that is just

27:47

get a really good tune on the boat that

27:49

way if the O2 sensors go out later on

27:51

down the road we can just keep using the

27:54

tune that's on the boat um so to do that

27:56

we got to drive the boat that's all we

27:57

got to do just drive the boat around so

27:59

that was kind of the goal for today is

28:00

we were going to go out and fix it that

28:01

way and then we realized like there's a

28:03

lot of extra fuel um coming out of the

28:05

exhaust on this engine now that engine

28:07

was working good but this engine's been

28:09

a problem so Oscar was feeling some of

28:11

the cylinders and felt that a few of

28:12

them were cold they were just like

28:14

really really cold and that was strange

28:16

and then we were just noticing way tons

28:18

of extra fuel going through the system

28:21

so we've got to take this intake

28:23

manifold off and inspect our injectors

28:24

and both of us are thinking that at

28:27

least one of these inject vectors is

28:28

like stuck open or clogged or something

28:31

and it's leaking fuel so uh we've got to

28:33

get this uh fixed ASAP um we've turned

28:37

off the fuel so it's not like actually

28:38

actively leaking but it's when the

28:40

engine's running and stuff it's it's

28:41

leaking and then that's causing extra

28:43

fuel to go through the system and it

28:45

can't read it because it's happening on

28:46

that bank and the O2 sensor is on that

28:48

bank so it's a very complicated problem

28:50

but we're going to put every two of our

28:52

brain cells together we're going to rub

28:54

them together these four brain cells use

28:56

friction and uh

28:58

we'll make fire baby wait well no fire

29:00

considering we got a gas leak but you

29:01

know what I

29:02

[Music]

29:11

mean all righty guys it's new day uh

29:13

We've we've missed our wonderful weather

29:16

window so it's now back to like let's

29:18

hope it doesn't snow on us type of

29:19

weather um the uh intake manifold is

29:22

back on the new injectors are in I've

29:24

got the tune set up for the new

29:25

injectors um so what we're going to go

29:28

and try and do now is get a good base

29:30

fuel map base idle on this engine so it

29:32

can uh run and function and uh double

29:35

check make sure that we don't have any

29:36

extra fuel coming off the exhaust and

29:39

we'll be in good shape if we can get all

29:40

those things dialed in all of this

29:42

wackiness where we've been seeing too

29:43

much fuel going through the exhaust and

29:45

everything it it could it would be

29:46

solved in an instant if you had an O2

29:48

sensor on each Bank that'd be great but

29:50

we don't have that so moving on um it's

29:53

all been done at idle and at idle you

29:55

have these guys right there they're

29:56

called idle air controllers um and uh

30:00

well they they help your they help your

30:01

engine idle uh but if one of them was

30:03

broken so you can see we have one that

30:05

fully extended like that and one that is

30:07

not extended like this if one of these

30:09

was broken say like this one was stuck

30:11

all the way open because of uh sinking

30:13

you know you can see some Rust down in

30:14

there um that would limit the air going

30:17

to One Bank of the engine and then if

30:20

you don't have enough air and you have

30:21

too much fuel you run rich and that

30:23

could be what we were seeing it's hard

30:25

to know uh it seems like a lot also our

30:27

Spark plugs look like hot garbage so

30:30

what we're going to go ahead and do is

30:32

uh four new spark plugs uh a couple new

30:34

idle air controllers and then we'll give

30:36

it a test and see if we're in a better

30:39

position all right guys happy to say

30:41

that it was the IAC it was uh it was

30:44

stuck in a closed position which was

30:46

really bad and uh no you know no damage

30:49

done to the engine cuz we weren't like

30:50

running them and and going full rip

30:52

actually when you got out of idle that

30:54

that wouldn't matter anyways but that

30:56

was causing our problem of running too

30:58

rich and we've got that solved so game

31:00

plan is we're going to get two working

31:01

O2 sensors one in each engine and go

31:05

boating go enjoy this wonderful Oregon

31:08

[Music]

31:25

weather well this is really loud I'm

31:27

going to I'm just going to shut these

31:28

down real

31:31

quick we got the boat out on the water

31:33

we got the engines tuned up we got this

31:36

stuff running good I'm so stoked we got

31:39

everything back we got everything back

31:41

in shape man we got a boat again so cool

31:44

I wish it could have been a better

31:46

weather day I mean we're like full

31:47

awning up and everything but we did it

31:49

let's see if I can crash the Drone into

31:51

the uh River trying to get a thumbnail

31:55

shot head up

31:57

[Music]

32:22

[Music]

32:24

all right we got Dr good catch it drones

32:27

on boats are dumb all right uh the wind

32:30

is picking up there's a storm rolling in

32:31

we got to get back into the

32:35

[Music]

32:49

marina back at the marina home sweet

32:51

home the current was pretty strong so

32:53

parking was exciting I'll say that um

32:56

thank you guys so much for watching

32:57

thank thanks for joining us on this

32:58

journey now that we've got the boat and

33:00

the powertrain and everything that the

33:01

engines are tuned everything's going

33:03

well on the water um we're going to be

33:05

taking a break on this we're going to

33:06

work on our Lamborghini mercial Lago

33:08

build and our camper truck build getting

33:11

both of those things um wrapped up if

33:13

you're here specifically for marine

33:14

content I current plan is after those

33:17

builds we're back on boat so make sure

33:19

you stay subscribed so you don't miss

33:20

anything uh we are officially definitely

33:23

going to build a whole new from scratch

33:26

bees for build boat it's going to be

33:28

very very exciting I'm so stoked on it

33:30

um and also when the weather turns

33:32

around that's when we will be finishing

33:34

out all the final touches on this boat

33:35

meaning getting all the interior dialed

33:37

in getting it all cleaned up furniture

33:38

back in probably new furniture this year

33:40

it's about time um just getting this

33:42

thing all the way back to 100% thank you

33:45

guys so much for watching thanks for

33:46

being on this journey with me it was a

33:47

really really sad time um but luckily it

33:49

looks like the insurance payout on this

33:52

uh the the loss that we took here and

33:53

the hard work that we had to put in to

33:54

fix it we'll probably pay to fund our

33:56

next boat so that's pretty cool thanks

33:58

for watching guys see you on the next

33:59

one

34:01

[Music]

34:14

peace
