Despite being a team-up, Kong is seen to dominate screen time, a potential disappointment for Team Godzilla fans. The movie's script is criticized for its implausibility, yet it is acknowledged that Kong's character development and the portrayal of his interactions with other apes are strengths. The review humorously notes the film's embrace of its B-movie qualities and the mix of high-budget CGI with a script that sometimes feels made up on the fly. The incorporation of psychic elements and seismic activity as plot devices is questioned, and the overall impression is that while the movie has its moments, it ultimately feels like a chaotic blend of various influences, with a nod to potential for non-human-centered storytelling in future projects.

Transcripts
man you got to respect the movie that
disregards the little things in life
like collateral damage the news reports
about this event must have looked like
an incoming message from Naboo a death
toll is
[Music]
catastrophic so Godzilla cross Kong I
believe the X stands for cross if we're
going on Street Fighter cross Tekken
though when never ever heard anyone talk
about this movie they just call it
Godzilla Kong ignore the ACT entirely
probably has to do with English
translation of Japanese characters I
digress we got a movie to talk about
here it's directed by Adam weard who
directed the previous movie Godzilla
versus Kong and this is a Kong
movie oh yeah and Godzilla's in it too
yes is this is Godzilla and Kong again
but teaming up this time it's undeniable
that Kong gets the Lion Share of screen
time here although Godzilla is in it has
a couple things to do it's nowhere near
Kong so if you were team Godzilla when
they were getting those hashtags
trending might be a little disappointed
here then again if you were team
Godzilla you did get Godzilla minus one
just a few months ago so I feel like you
really win here though everyone loves
that movie so I guess everyone wins a
point is that Godzilla cross Kong is in
the Godzilla versus Kong continuity so
that whole Journey to the Center of the
Earth in the upside down but the upside
down in the center of the earth that's
all there a team led by Rebecca Hall
they're stranded down there so the
audience can go great let's get back to
Kong again I may have given Godzilla a
little flag leading up I mean he he
takes out a couple of monsters sure but
he doesn't have any there's no momentum
there's no character with him you get
all this character with with Kong and
you see him actually have a soul and
Godzilla's this monster out there you're
like okay well this it's definitely his
movie they kind of had fun with it at a
point I was like this is a very
expensive very CGI very high budget
Grade B movie was funny cuz the visual
effects that that's not actually what
made me roll my eyes in this movie it's
well it's the script it's never Madam
web or anything like that but there were
moments where I was like are you making
this up as you're just going along
an example of when they're leaning into
it they're just rattling off a bunch of
stuff they need to do and this one
dude's like all right well we're just
throwing stuff to the wall to see what
sticks I'm going to go do this thing I
was like okay so you know like you all
know so I at least appreciate that
doesn't change the fact that when it was
getting going man it was some ridiculous
setting this movie up there's
little girls having psychic messages I
was like or you could have just had
seismic activity and been like
something's going on we're getting some
readings from down there we got to go
down there or a psychic little kid why
not I will say in Kong being the MVP
there's a scene in particular that
absolutely showcases that there's no
dialogue of course cuz it's Kong these
other apes they're arguing but you know
the conversation you get it all that's
no small feat that's kind of an amazing
scene because of that I was like imagine
if they big robots who actually had
words God willing we can press forward
in life and have Transformers movies
that don't feel they have to revolve
around humans or if we're talking about
proof of concept maybe that whole scene
was just to give someone the idea okay
so we can do a Primal Rage adaptation
right liveaction Primal Rage movie it
can happen it doesn't have to revolve
around humans it happened in the new
Godzilla Kong movie that's chaos versus
blizzard what's our budget also saw a
little bit of Congo in there yeah it's
not just Godzilla cross Kong his Journey
to the Center of the Earth cross Congo
but when Godzilla comes in to join Kong
for the big Fry at the end my God it's
undenied ibly fun I was cracking up in a
couple of scenes but just in that
gleeful yay destruction kind of way the
action is a bit fast man you got to have
a
fast it's kind of like the new Roadhouse
with big titan monsters instead big
titan monsters smashing into a lot of
buildings that definitely had a lot of
people in them the death toll is
catastrophic it's Unthinkable if your
eyes is quick enough to pick up on all
the CGI action going down at the end of
this movie you're probably quick enough
to pick up on whatever video magicians
coming up on your feed while they do
their slight of hand magic trick before
they do it again and show you how the
Trick's done ruining magic for everybody
stop doing that you're ruining it for
everybody quick turn on some 80 synth
music that's in there too that actually
heightens the vibe that this movie's I
think going for which is this movie
would be right at home coming out in
about 1984 885 but it is a weird hybrid
of tone sometimes it finds that
goldilock zone sometimes it ziggs when
it should have zagged which is to say
it's like are you did did you just pull
that from a taaay TD Thor movie I'm
pretty pick either one but I'm pretty
sure I saw that or specifically I mean
it's not like it's exactly the same
scenario but same energy as they say
right you get what I'm saying don't go
into this looking for Godzilla minus one
it's kind of unfortunate that the
trailers for this movie really started
to pick up after Godzilla minus one hit
theaters here in the US like huh in the
wake of that here a different vibe
entirely we all knew it would be I mean
the actor with the most screen presence
in Charisma in this movie by
far
Kong it's not even close it's not even
necessarily A Bad Thing Kong stuff was
fun but you also see some Humanity
behind the Beast the man wears Bumblebee
as a Power Glove not really that's what
it looked like to me I want to say the
human scenes in this movie were better
but what I mean are Brian Tyree Henry
and Dan Stevens made it work they have
the banter they lean into it and they
have fun to a degree that kept me
engaged for the most part with the human
scenes then more humans are just kind of
dumped into this movie and it just gets
worse it gets bad we're talking made for
TV in the 9s bad not saying all TV in
the 9s was bad but when I say that you
know what I mean felt like they didn't
know what they wanted to do with it they
were like all right we're just going to
ride it as we go along we're not even
going to know where it's going to go
until we're done filming it we got to do
something cuz we know the audience is
going to start asking very logical
questions like why is this kid here it's
like this it's dumb at times it's it's
dumb fun at times movies like this I
asked myself would I watch it again like
if my friends hit me up and they were
like Hey we're all going to watch the
new Godzilla Kong the new Empire movie
you want to go with I'd probably be like
how about this you go and then we'll all
I'll meet you to catch a bite afterwards
we can all go eat somewhere in that no I
guess I wouldn't watch it again not
sober anyway cuz it's probably a better
time if you're drunk yeah now it's the
new Empire not a frozen Empire though
the freezing in this movie two weeks two
Blockbusters both with freezing both
with Empires one could say both with
frozen Empires who cheated off of who's
payer right so Godzilla Kong the new
Empire have you seen it what did you
think about it or do you also call it
Godzilla cross Kong which is also to say
do you consider Street Fighter cross
teeken an underappreciated gem whatever
