WE BOUGHT A NEW HOUSE!!!

we're Trenton alley and we live for the
adventure whether it's traveling across
the world in a van renovating an old
camp trailer or building our Dream Home
in the mountains it's our first time
believe it or not this is our first
pandemic we've had highs lows and
everything in between this year has been
full of both but I still keep expecting
her to walk in with groceries ready to
cook dinner one thing we've learned is
that Adventure is what you make it the
journey means so much more than the
destination and the people you share it
with are what make it all
worthwhile so cheers to new adventures
and a brand new
[Music]
Journey well guys we did something crazy
you guys have probably already seen by
the title of this video so what we're
doing is we're actually going to scrap
this entire project we're going to sell
this house as it stands I quit we're
moving sorry it's
over now uh that does sound attractive
to be completely honest because I'm so
overwhelmed with construction but that
is not what we're doing this last year
has been wild for us so much has
happened our family is growing um and
changing my mom isn't here anymore there
have been so many ups and downs uh the
house is coming together really well but
we are not where we expected we would be
uh by this time in my pregnancy there's
just so many variables and so many
factors that haven't gone as planned and
that's fine that's life uh it's also
really made us um re-evaluate kind of
our priorities in life and especially
after losing my mom trying to create a
space for my dad we've really solidified
how important and valuable our family
and friends are and we want to be closer
to them my dad loves the room that we
built for him but it's very remote up
here if you haven't realized that from
our videos and he does not love how hard
it is to get up here with the roads and
how um isolated it can be yeah to be
completely honest it can be really
isolating up here and when Ali and I
were living in the van and we bought
this property and we were going to build
a little cabin in the mountains up here
that was kind of what we wanted we
wanted to be isolated up in the
mountains you know on our own doing our
own thing and we still really strive for
that adventure and we really appreciate
that challenge but now when kids start
to come into the mix it does kind of
change the perspective a little bit yeah
and I feel like the way that we're
explaining this right now makes it seem
like we are abandoning this place up
here and we're not going to continue
construction and that could not be
further from the truth this is our home
this will always be our home home and we
want to continue to have this be our
home so we are not abandoning this
project in any way shape or form but we
have some upcoming projects on this
house that we've talked about um that
will make it very difficult to live in
the house while we are working on it and
make it very difficult with a newborn
the biggest issue is that like not only
are we going to be trying to finish the
addition we're going to be building the
roof that goes over the deck which means
we're moving all the windows on the
front of the house I don't know if I've
mentioned this but the sun room we have
to remove like half of the roof it's
going to be absolutely crazy so living
here fulltime will be very stressful I
think we'll probably still be spending
at least half of our nights up here but
we did have this amazing opportunity
come up where there was this house that
was a really cool house that needs a lot
of work and so me being the project guy
I was like we could buy this house we
could turn it into a project this could
be our next project and you know per
Trenton alley style before we finish one
project we're moving on to the next we
are going to have basically an auxiliary
place that's down in the valley that's
really close to our friends that's
really close to our family a lot of
people have been asking about Joel uh
yeah Joel does not want to drive up here
ever I don't blame him every time I ask
him like come on up let's have a movie
night let's have a sleep over let's hang
out come up to the house he always has
an excuse so we always go down to him
it's it's not a big deal we we really
value seeing him and having him in our
lives so whenever we get together it's
normally down in Salt Lake City um as
and that goes the same for my dad for
Trent's mom for Trent's grandparents uh
for all of our friends pretty much it's
very difficult for people to come up
here and um it was really difficult for
me postpartum with Leo after I gave
birth to him to be up here in such an
isolated remote environment um kind of
without the support of a real Community
around me and that's something that I
have been really craving with this
pregnancy yeah and then there's also the
aspect of it being difficult up here
through winter and winter is 9 months
long like that's the that's the problem
is most people that have been watching
this channel for a while you guys have
seen it snows here earlier than it snows
in the far reaches of Canada and the
snow stays here later than the snow
stays on the tops of the mountains in
most of the states in the United States
which is really cool I appreciate that I
love the snow it does make things more
challenging more difficult we didn't
really cover too much of it because it
was a little bit dramatic and a little
bit scary but Ally had a pretty bad
crash a few weeks ago and if I was to
play out what happened for you most of
you would probably say you should scrap
that house and not be driving on those
roads ever again because Ally almost
rolled our truck and probably could have
killed herself and Leo which is very
very scary and very very dangerous we
have spent many times coming up and down
these roads where they're in really
gnarly conditions and it's really scary
and we've always pretty much made it
home and we've always made it down the
mountain whenever we've needed to but
now having kids and having a family it
just puts these like added
considerations that like maybe the
adventure isn't as necessary
24/7 and so there's risks you're willing
to take when you don't have kids and
those that level of risk changes I think
a lot when you have other people that
you're responsible for so when there's
nights where you know there's a couple
feet of snow on the road and it's really
gnarly we might not make it home we'll
just be able to go to this other house
and spend the night there and then we
can come up when the roads are better
things like that it just kind of gives
us like a plan B and kind of solves some
problems where we get to spend more time
with friends and more time with family
but let me get back to the project okay
this house was built 30 years ago go
it's never been updated it's never been
maintained it has some pretty massive
structural settling problems so I'm
going to have to like do some beam
replacement stuff and he's excited about
this I'm excited about the project
aspect but but we're not going to start
working on it until we're done with this
house because I really want to finish
this project but we do have this
opportunity so we jumped on it and I
think it like checks a lot of boxes for
us it's it's going to be amazing and
it's going to be hard to not do any big
projects until we're done on this house
because there's so many things that
we're just like oh we could do this we
could do that this is going to be
amazing um but I think the majority of
the purpose of that house right now is
it's going to be an amazing postpartum
nest for me after giving birth to baby
brother just so that I can be closer to
friends and family closer to my dad
closer to our support system it really
takes a village to raise a child or to
support a mother after having given
birth and that is something I did not
plan for when we had Leo and I have
mentioned it before on this channel but
I struggled severely with postpartum
depression and I'm trying to do a lot of
things this pregnancy to change that
trajectory and not experience that
postpartum environment the way I did
with Leo and I think being around people
who care about us who can help support
us is going to make a huge difference so
right now I want anybody who's on a
computer or phone or anywhere where you
guys cannect actually leave a comment
I'd love for you guys to jump down into
the comments and tell us are you excited
about this can you not wait to see the
new house are you like absolutely no
don't do that I can't believe you are
you like ready to start the next project
and abandon like just let us know what
you guys are thinking because I would
love to know what your guys's opinion is
so jump down in there and leave us a
comment and with that do you guys want
to see it I guess let's hit the road
and just like that we are now standing
in the middle of the new house oh my
gosh I cannot believe this is real it's
very overwhelming and uh to be
completely honest taking on a project
this size after we're done with our
house is also just as daunting and
overwhelming as like building our house
but I'm very excited because it's a
completely different type of project and
right now we're actually getting ready
for something huge yeah we are having a
very very big party here it's my mom's
birthday we're also celebrating Mother's
Day Joel is coming my grandparents are
coming my mom both my sisters all of
their kids we are so excited to be able
to have a space like this to host
everybody to let everybody come together
and hang out and be together we haven't
had our family up to our house in the
mountain in like over a year because
everyone is scared to try to come up
there so this feels
like so comforting so Soul nourishing
it's really it's closer and more
centrally located to everyone and it's
not you know in the North Pole so we're
not going to give you guys like a full
tour and go through the entire house
right now but when we start renovating
this place it is going to be a massive
massive project
[Music]
so this house was built in 1991 and you
can kind of tell from the accents the
wood and the finishing touches
everywhere in the house there so much
oak wood which was really popular at
that time probably my favorite feature
of the house is this checker board
that's up here on the ceiling there's
like an oak checker board built into the
living room ceiling I think it's called
a coffer ceiling or something like that
it looks really cool but again it's a
lot of Oak which basically this whole
house we should just call this the oak
house because there is a lot of Oak but
we did get a couple pieces of furniture
uh we have a bed upstairs that we got we
have a table and we've this couch we
found a bunch of this stuff on Facebook
Marketplace for super cheap and it was
just kind of some stuff that we threw in
here because once we renovate this we
don't really know what our style is
going to be or if pieces of furniture
are going to work with the style after
it's renovated so we've just got some
placeholders that we're going to use for
probably the next year or two until we
actually start to like dive into this
place and change it up one of the only
updates that we're very aware of is that
about 15 years ago the previous owners
did make some changes to the kitchen I
don't think these are the original
countertops when the house was built um
but they only changed about like 50% of
it and even 15 years ago things are a
little bit out of date for example they
changed up the countertops but they left
the original appliances and I kind of
love this actually it's an analog oven
and it works it works perfectly fine um
maybe we'll keep it cuz it's kind of
cool I don't know it does have a double
oven which is something I have never
experienced before and it's going to
come so in handy when we have a bunch of
people over because if you haven't been
able to tell Trent's family is enormous
like I don't know this oven probably
looks familiar to some of you guys does
anybody remember this like analog clock
with the timer that you set by like
twisting the knob this thing looks like
what was in my grandparents house and my
grandparents house the old one that they
used to live in when I was a little kid
and I think it was built in like the 60s
or something like that so this house
being built in the '90s this seems older
than the house so I don't know if you
guys have a general electric oven that
you guys have seen or that you remember
that looks like this let us know in the
comments this house is really cool and I
am so excited to put some of our own
personal touches and modern updates on
it but my favorite part of the house
that I don't even know if we're going to
change is the backyard cuz I've always
been told that things will unfold if you
keep on waiting but then you came along
and prove me a wrong I was so mistaken
cuz you glue all the pieces back
together
one thing we will never take for granted
ever again is having a lawn with grass
it's amazing for the dogs and it's so
nice for Leo there's actually an old
playground here that he loves um
probably needs a little bit of updating
but is perfect for our growing family
[Music]
I was
sock kep playing myed to give it was
changing but with you it's so clear and
now that you're here I hold your hand
okay one
[Music]
2ar nice job I just give slide you went
down the
slide on your bum unfortunately this is
one of those slides that everyone
probably has a memory of as a child as
being extremely hot in the summertime
when the sun is beating down on it and
getting Burns while you're trying to
slide down it but right now it's
probably the most fun that Leo has ever
had on a slide what do you think good
good can I come in
hi can I come inside no so Joel is on
his way over right now and once he gets
here we are going to start getting ready
for this
party feel so free I'm a sweet
[Music]
baby so one thing that we're really
excited about is obviously spending more
time with Joel but now that we have this
space we're actually going to be able to
give Joel a bedroom so that when we are
down here he'll have a place to sleep
because when he comes up to our house
he's usually sleeping on the couch and
that's not cool but right now we're
about to unpack his mattress and today's
video is SP sponsored by Helix Helix

about 2 weeks and to be honest we don't
even really know what our long-term
plans are here whether we're going to
like flip this house after we renovate
it or what we're going to do with it but
while we have it we are going to use it
baby for right now our video content
isn't really going to change that much
since we're not going to start working
on this for probably another year or so
it's true but this house is going to
give us a really nice rest from being up
in the mountains and I think make us
more excited and rejuvenated for while
we are working up there because the
burnout can get very very real and when
we remove the Windows if the bedrooms
aren't done and there's nowhere to sleep
where it's not like contained from the
outside we may be sleeping down here
during that time period so who knows but
uh we just want to bring you guys up to
speed we want to let you guys know that
we love you thank you guys so much for
watching please jump down in the
comments and let us know what you think
thanks again to Helix for sponsoring

see you guys on the next one
