Keywords

💡Freshwater Prawn

Freshwater prawns, also known as jumbo shrimp, are large aquatic crustaceans that are being stocked into the pond. They are significant as they serve as a high-protein snack for the bass, contributing to their growth. In the video, it is mentioned that the prawns are a suitable alternative to crawfish, which could damage the pond's clay liner.

💡Volcano Pump

The volcano pump is a type of aeration device being installed in the pond. It is crucial for maintaining water quality and preventing fish kills due to low oxygen levels, especially during hot summer days or rapid vegetation die-off. The pump also has LED lights, which add an aesthetic element and can create a light show at night.

💡Wetland Filter

A wetland filter is a part of the pond ecosystem designed to improve water quality by providing a sanctuary for prawns and a habitat with no predators. It is filled with nutrients and algae, making it an ideal environment for prawns to grow and hide. The wetland filter is also beneficial for water purification and contributes to the overall health of the pond.

💡Post Larva Prawns

Post larva prawns are juvenile freshwater prawns that are about an eighth of an inch long when born. They are fed a heavy protein diet to reach adult size in just four months. In the video, the prawns are being introduced to different bodies of water within the pond to increase their chances of survival and growth.

💡Surface Aerator

A surface aerator, like the volcano pump, is used to increase the oxygen levels in the pond. It is often referred to as an 'insurance policy for fish' because it prevents fish kills due to depleted oxygen. The aerator also improves water quality and reduces algae growth by promoting the conversion of phosphorus and churning water to limit algae spore sunlight exposure.

💡Diffusers

Diffusers are devices installed in the pond to improve oxygenation. They work in conjunction with the volcano pump to increase dissolved oxygen levels in the water. This is essential for supporting a higher number of fish and maintaining a healthy aquatic environment, especially as more fish are added to the pond each spring.

💡LED Lights

LED lights are a feature of the volcano pump, providing both functionality and aesthetics. They have built-in color patterns for various holidays, enhancing the visual appeal of the pond at night. The lights also serve a practical purpose by potentially attracting insects and other food sources for the pond's inhabitants.

💡Squirrel House

The squirrel house is a structure being built for a fox squirrel named Foxy. It is part of a project to observe and encourage wildlife activity around the pond and farm. The squirrel house is equipped with amenities like a kitchen, living room, and even a camera to monitor the squirrels, making it a fun and educational addition to the property.

💡Prawn Pond

The prawn pond is a specific area of the pond ecosystem designed for raising freshwater prawns. Last year, it was a successful project that contributed to the overall health and protein availability in the pond. The prawn pond is upgraded this year to accommodate the increased number of prawns and to improve their growth conditions.

💡Bass Growth

The growth of bass in the pond is a significant theme in the video. The introduction of prawns has had a positive impact on the bass, with their weight increasing from 2 lbs to 5 lbs in about 18 months. The bass also exhibit unique behavior, such as not being scared of people and actively seeking out the presence of humans for feeding opportunities.

💡Toad and Tadpole

Toad and tadpole activity is a natural part of the pond's ecosystem, especially during the time when aquatic plants are blooming. Tadpoles are beneficial as they eat algae off the rocks, helping to clean the pond. Once they grow, they become a food source for bluegill fish, contributing to the pond's balanced food chain.

Transcripts

00:00

Folks at home welcome back to the

00:01

Crimson Oak Pond and today we're going

00:03

to be stocking 5,000 of these jumbo

00:05

shrimp known as freshwater prawns into

00:07

our pond we're also going to be

00:09

installing a volcano pump that'll

00:11

benefit all of the fish in the pond as

00:13

well as installing a new Squirrel House

00:15

in the Big Oak Tree so one of our most

00:17

successful projects last year was

00:19

building this prawn Pond and the reason

00:21

we decided to add prawns into the 5 acre

00:23

Pond is because we can't add crawfish

00:26

because they could burrow a hole through

00:27

our clay liner and as you can see these

00:30

jumbo prawns are a huge protein snack

00:32

for the bass and also another reason

00:34

that the bass went from 2 in to 5 lb in

00:37

about 18 months so what you see here is

00:40

the average size adult prawn that we

00:42

grew and it took about 5 months and we

00:44

would release some of them right here on

00:46

the Pond's Edge but a lot of them got

00:48

put in at night and were an easy meal

00:49

for the bass under the green lights so

00:51

it's time to restock the prawns this

00:53

year we have one slight problem the

00:55

prawn Pond got a big upgrade and now

00:58

looks like this so this year going to be

01:00

raising them in three different bodies

01:01

of water and our shipment just came in

01:03

of 5,000 post larva prongs and you can

01:07

see these are juveniles and when they're

01:09

first born they're about an eighth of an

01:10

inch long but we feed them a heavy

01:12

protein diet and they'll reach adult

01:14

size in only 4 months so the first thing

01:16

we're going to do is start out by

01:18

putting them in a holding tank so we can

01:19

control the temperature the only

01:21

difficulty with Raisin prawns is making

01:23

sure their water temperature doesn't get

01:25

too low because they can't survive in

01:26

anything below the mid-50s so we're

01:28

releasing the first bag pch in here and

01:31

just like last year they immediately go

01:32

to the side of the containers and start

01:34

feeding on any type of algae that's in

01:36

the tank and now let's talk about the

01:38

second body of water we're going to be

01:39

adding the prawns to if you guys recall

01:41

when we were building this Pond right at

01:43

the top of the waterfalls we dug out a

01:44

wetland filter all right beautiful

01:46

afternoon out here with the sun setting

01:48

now we're about to stock some prawns and

01:50

we're going to put some in the Wetland

01:51

filter and down there in the main Pond

01:54

but the prawns down there may get eaten

01:55

by the Blu gills or Bass But the perfect

01:58

thing about having this Wetland filter

02:00

is you got this nice little Sanctuary so

02:02

this entire area has no predators in it

02:05

plus it's a wetland filter so it's full

02:07

of nutrients you can see algae down

02:09

there on the bottom well I have to take

02:10

that last statement back I said there

02:12

wasn't any predators in there but if you

02:14

recall last week's video The Tiger Bass

02:17

spawned and I made an attempt to catch

02:19

some of those baby bass fry and I was

02:21

only successful in Catching one of them

02:23

but this little guy now lives in the

02:24

Wetland filter that's going to get

02:26

stocked full of prawns he may grow at a

02:28

record rate and by the way I asked you

02:30

all to help me name him and by far the

02:32

most popular name was Truman so

02:34

congratulations Richard you are the

02:36

winner so we're at that time a year

02:38

where we shouldn't have any more cold

02:39

nights so we're going to go ahead and

02:40

put some right here in the Wetland

02:42

filter and this top layer is only about

02:44

a foot and a half deep but the gravel

02:46

goes down 6 ft deep so while these

02:48

prawns are at the post larva stage they

02:50

could get down there in that gravel and

02:51

we couldn't see them for weeks or maybe

02:53

even up to a month until they get big

02:55

enough for their Force to come out and

02:56

there's the perch right there that the

02:58

Eagle's been landing on there's a cool

03:00

shot of them hanging out all right so

03:03

now these guys have acclimated to the

03:04

holding tank which we filled with pond

03:06

water out of Cedar Falls so we're going

03:08

to transport some of them into the

03:10

Wetland filter and the prawn should

03:11

Thrive here fresh water

03:14

algae and plenty of places to

03:19

hide all right there's two things the

03:21

prawns need in their holding tank one is

03:23

warm water so we got this thermometer

03:25

set to about 80° to offset any nighttime

03:28

temperatures out here the second thing

03:30

they need is a lot of oxygen so we're

03:32

going to drop some of these pucks down

03:34

to the bottom there now second

03:38

one so I've been feeding these guys a

03:40

heavy dose of protein pellets and it is

03:42

amazing to see how quickly they grow

03:44

each day I come out here they're

03:46

noticeably bigger now it's time to move

03:48

some to the 5 acre Pond all right we're

03:50

in the shallow corner pocket of Bonnie's

03:52

Bayou and we're going to release some

03:54

prawns right here in this area you can

03:56

see this is extremely shallow right here

03:59

and and there's a lot of algae for the

04:01

prawns to feed off of you can see it's a

04:03

perfect safe haven for all those fish

04:05

that just hatched and if there's any of

04:07

you out there that want to stock prawns

04:08

but don't have a good setup like a

04:10

holding tank or a prawn Pond the best

04:12

thing to do is just Overstock the

04:14

shallow areas of your pond especially

04:16

the areas that have the vegetation

04:18

because While most of them will get

04:19

eaten up by the bluegills and other

04:21

small fish still roughly 10% of them are

04:24

going to make it to that adult size and

04:26

if you stock enough numbers in the

04:27

beginning that 10% could be enough to

04:30

have an impact on your bass so now it's

04:32

time to install the volcano pump into

04:34

the pond and there's several benefits to

04:36

this that we're going to be talking

04:37

about here in just a moment but its

04:39

basic job is to act as a huge airation

04:41

pump it's 5 1/2 horsepower but the other

04:44

cool feature about this model is it has

04:46

these big canister LED lights so you can

04:49

pretty much put on a light show at night

04:51

and we're using some 5 gallon buckets

04:53

filled with cement as anchor points and

04:56

we've got 200 ft of power and lighting

04:58

cable that are going to connect back to

05:00

our control panel and it floats which is

05:04

a good

05:05

thing we got the control box mounted

05:08

some conduit leading down into the

05:11

water and I had the guys from

05:13

Southeastern Pond come out to help me

05:15

install this these guys are very

05:17

knowledgeable and made it look like an

05:18

easy job so we wanted to get it out in

05:21

at least that 6ft depth range so we

05:23

chose right out to the left of Alcatraz

05:26

Island out in the center of the pond and

05:28

once the guys got everything anchored

05:30

down there's only one thing left to do

05:33

and that's power it

05:41

on and I'll have to say guys this video

05:44

does not do it justice the volume of

05:46

water this thing moves is incredible

05:49

people install Pond airators or

05:51

fountains for the Aesthetics look but

05:53

the volcano style is completely opposite

05:56

it has one major job and that surface

05:58

Iration and a lot of L of people call

06:00

surface aerators an insurance policy for

06:02

your fish so anytime you have a lot of

06:04

vegetation or in our case Plank and

06:07

Bloom from the fertilizer and you get

06:09

these real hot summer days sometimes

06:11

either a thunderstorm can trigger it by

06:13

dumping a lot of cold rain water in the

06:15

pond or even those very hot temperatures

06:17

can cause that Plankton Bloom to die off

06:19

rapidly and when vegetation or Plankton

06:22

dies at a rapid rate it depletes all of

06:24

the dissolved oxygen which can lead to a

06:26

fish kill and you lose every fish in the

06:28

pond so for starters this pump's going

06:30

to prevent that and the second benefit

06:32

is that as we add more and more fish to

06:34

the pond each spring when we have new

06:36

spawns and introduce more Blu Gill small

06:39

bass and even tilapia the increase in

06:42

number of fish is going to require more

06:43

dissolved oxygen which this pump is

06:45

going to provide more than they could

06:46

ever need but this airator is going to

06:48

improve the water quality and will also

06:50

reduce algae growth because by producing

06:53

more oxygen in the water it converts

06:55

things like phosphorus which algae

06:57

typically uses for food and not to

06:59

mention by churning up the water a lot

07:01

of those algae spores get pushed down

07:03

deeper and die off because they don't

07:05

have access to the sunlight another

07:07

added benefit is a reduction in

07:09

mosquitoes because they require still

07:11

calm water for their eggs to develop and

07:13

it's also going to reduce the

07:14

accumulation of bottom sediment so the

07:17

organic matter in the pond decomposes

07:19

much slower under low oxygen conditions

07:23

so as you can see by adding more

07:24

dissolved oxygen there are numerous

07:27

benefits and this system works great in

07:29

conjunction

07:30

with our diffusers and we installed

07:32

three diffusers just after we built the

07:34

pond and the diffuser is really good at

07:59

last but not least we had to check out

08:01

the LED lights at night the really cool

08:03

thing about this is they have built-in

08:05

color patterns for holidays throughout

08:07

the year so like red white and blue

08:09

during fourth of July green and red

08:11

during Christmas so now our fish are

08:13

going to know what holiday it is they

08:15

should be

08:17

celebrating now today we're going to be

08:18

working with a product called Sunday to

08:20

help improve the lawn around our

08:22

backyard pond as well as out at the farm

08:24

and we started the first application of

08:25

the Sunday product about 6 weeks ago and

08:28

this is what our long looked like it was

08:30

in pretty good shape but you could see

08:31

there were a couple of bad spots and

08:33

this is a quick look at what the lawn

08:35

looks like 6 weeks after applying the

08:37

Sunday

08:39

product and just in case you didn't see

08:41

that video Sunday's products are

08:43

extremely easy to use you basically just

08:45

hook them up to a water hose there you

08:47

go it's got pretty good range on it

08:50

Sunday works as a subscription service

08:52

and you start out by using the tools

08:53

they give you to take a soul sample of

08:55

the backyard and you send that off to

08:57

their experts and based on your so and

08:59

climate they'll send you back the exact

09:01

mix of fertilizer you need to keep your

09:02

yard looking great throughout the year

09:04

so Sunday takes all the guest work out

09:06

of it and make it extremely easy to use

09:08

with these pouches that attach to your

09:10

water hose so if you're interested in

09:11

checking them out head over to gets

09:13

sunday.com

09:14

bamabass and for a limited time they're

09:17

offering 30% off your first long care

09:19

Box by using code bamabass 30 at

09:22

checkout so Nate makes has been building

09:24

a squirrel house for the fox squirrel we

09:26

call Foxy and we put out a few feeder

09:28

stations to see which area had the most

09:30

squirrel activity and that turned out to

09:33

be highly entertaining in itself because

09:35

as always you never know what you're

09:37

going to get with the wildlife we saw

09:38

Flying Squirrels George Jones The posum

09:41

and even clever raccoons figuring out

09:44

ways to open the feeding stations and

09:46

access the peanuts all right out of all

09:48

the squirrel feeder stations we put out

09:50

the nut bar did the best it's pretty

09:52

self-explanatory it's in this giant oak

09:55

tree lot of animals living and using

09:58

this tree each day so we're probably

10:00

going to mount the squirrel house right

10:02

here on this big Branch but the tough

10:04

part is figuring out how to get power

10:06

and ethernet down here to this location

10:08

because we're literally 1,500 ft away

10:11

from the closest power source but I'm

10:13

always up for a challenge so let me just

10:14

show you guys this cool little package

10:17

here by Dakota lithium called the power

10:19

box I call it the juice box there's a

10:21

lot of these type deals out on the

10:23

market but this one is by far the best

10:25

trust me I've tried a bunch of them so

10:27

to start off with it has a lithium

10:29

battery this one is the 135 amp hour

10:32

which will give you juice for quite a

10:34

while well the best part about this is

10:36

they've made a waterproof device that

10:38

has a multi-function inverter built into

10:41

it but not only that it has built-in

10:43

storage for things like this switch I

10:45

can mount it right there the 120 volt

10:47

plugs are right there everything get

10:49

stored away nicely so I like this

10:51

product so much I'm even going to put a

10:53

link down in the video description so

10:55

you can check it out now the second part

10:56

of this deal is getting the Wi-Fi signal

10:59

down here so we're going to mount this

11:00

up high in the tree and it's going to

11:02

send the video signal from the squirrel

11:04

box camera 1,500 ft away to the cabin

11:07

without any day loss we're even going to

11:08

be able to live stream it so time to get

11:10

everything set up and installed all

11:12

right Nate out here delivering the

11:13

Squirrel House what we got Nate we got

11:15

the beautiful mahogany front door set

11:18

wood floor

11:19

inside come around back you got

11:22

waterproof hinges up top way you can

11:24

open her up let's see the inside of the

11:27

Squirrel House got the full housing

11:28

Suite in there got the kitchen got the

11:31

living room with the TV over here got

11:34

the bedroom set down here got the

11:37

squirrel bed right there even built in a

11:40

camera so all you guys can

11:43

[Laughter]

11:47

watch Candle on the

11:49

table so the first thing we had to do

11:51

was set the table with some almonds and

11:54

a variety of nuts to hopefully lure the

11:56

squirrels into their new home we also

11:58

put some bonus items in in the

11:59

refrigerator it's going to be

12:00

interesting to see if they can figure

12:01

out how to open it and Nate was even

12:03

thoughtful enough to build them their

12:04

own front lawn he's got little hidden

12:07

gems everywhere you can see they even

12:09

have a

12:10

fireplace I like the front lawn dude

12:12

nice good

12:14

cut yeah I wonder who's going to get up

12:15

here and cut the

12:17

grass so big shout out to Nate makes an

12:20

incredible job the animals are always

12:22

happy when you show

12:23

up and we may have had to do one or two

12:26

sketchy things that wouldn't be approved

12:28

by OSHA but hey if we're ever going to

12:30

live stream all these cameras these

12:32

things are necessary so one last look at

12:34

the inside of the house unfortunately we

12:36

installed this so late in the week

12:37

you're going to have to wait until the

12:38

next episode to see the squirrels enter

12:41

their new home so now let's go check in

12:42

on our little buddies and Cedar Falls

12:45

and I'll have to say I'm starting to

12:46

love the bass we call Johnny and June

12:48

and the Blu gills there's something

12:49

special about having fish that aren't

12:51

scared of people and now every time I

12:53

come up to the pond they swim over and

12:55

greet me and a lot of this began when we

12:57

started feeding the bluegills the

12:58

protein pellets but the bass Started

13:00

enjoying us coming by for a different

13:02

reason so this Pond was built with

13:04

shallow shelves so that the bait fish

13:06

like the golden shiners we stock in here

13:09

have a way to hide and get away from the

13:10

bass well every time we walk up we scare

13:13

those shiners out of the shallow pockets

13:15

and that's when Johnny and June get

13:17

aggressive so pretty much every time we

13:19

come up to the pond the fish get a full

13:21

belly so now they look forward to us

13:23

stopping

13:28

by and it's that time of year where all

13:30

the lies are blooming which also means

13:32

that it's toad time so if you're around

13:35

any body of water this time of year

13:37

there's a very good chance you're going

13:38

to hear that mating call from the frogs

13:40

and toads and this is nothing new to us

13:43

we've been seeing it the past few years

13:44

in the backyard pond so when you hear

13:46

these little guys around the edge of the

13:48

pond if you look closely you'll start

13:50

seeing these strings of eggs and then

13:52

when you come back a couple days later

13:54

those eggs become tadpoles and you may

13:57

see thousands of them but they're very

14:00

beneficial because those Tad poles eat

14:02

the algae off the rocks and basically

14:03

help give your pond a good cleaning and

14:05

once they fatten up they also become an

14:07

easy meal for the blue gills but there's

14:09

one guy out there that's not too happy

14:11

with the invasion of the toads and

14:13

that's

14:15

Moby he said not in my house so next

14:18

week I promise we're going to give you a

14:19

full update on the backyard pond and

14:21

Moby they're all doing great and have

14:23

gained a lot of weight over the winter

14:25

so now let's check in on the two bald

14:26

eagles they are official residents we

14:29

see them out here every day usually

14:30

stopping down to snag a fish early in

14:32

the

14:35

morning or as you can see here scooping

14:38

up the tiny fish on the edge of the

14:43

banks but there's one thing you're for

14:45

sure to see every day when the Eagles

14:47

are around and that's the angry

14:50

crows they are sworn enemies and the

14:53

crows make sure to let the Eagles know

14:55

it

15:09

but I did see something interesting I

15:11

was watching a group of crows run the

15:13

eagle off but I'm pretty sure one of

15:15

those wasn't a crow maybe a small Hulk

15:17

or something that swooped down and

15:18

tapped him we also had a special guest

15:20

appearance from one of their babies the

15:22

juven Eyal Eagle we hadn't seen him in

15:25

about a month so it's always nice when

15:27

he stops by but check this out guys look

15:29

what I saw floating on the side of the

15:31

pond I believe this is that mystery fish

15:34

that we started seeing right after I

15:35

stocked the pond with bass he was

15:37

floating because he choked on another

15:39

fish but that's interesting to see I

15:41

wonder how many of these guys are in

15:43

here all righty Fish Feeding time we got

15:45

some live golden shiners I got about a

15:48

dozen or so pet bass that hang out right

15:51

out here in front of the dock so I've

15:52

been working on hand feeding the bass

15:54

and I'm starting to get very very close

15:57

there's a couple of them that'll come

15:58

right up to my hand and I just know the

16:00

first one that explodes on it like Moby

16:02

used to I'm probably going to drop the

16:05

camera in the water but so far I can get

16:07

to within just a couple inches of them

16:09

but I can't make them commit but I'm

16:11

determined to make it happen so while we

16:13

watch a feeding clip I want to talk to

16:15

you about the antennas if you look on

16:16

the right you can partially see one of

16:18

the antennas that we're using to track

16:19

the fish so one of the big reasons for

16:22

installing the antennas is to gather a

16:24

bunch of data and hopefully learn

16:26

something about bass that we didn't

16:27

already know so asked you all to give me

16:29

some ideas on what type of things we

16:31

should track with the data and there

16:33

were several comments but one of the

16:35

comments I lik the most was about

16:36

tracking the data to see which time of

16:39

day the fish were most active and that

16:41

type of data could really help out

16:42

fishermen knowing what time of day the

16:45

fish are actively feeding throughout the

16:47

seasons of the year because one thing I

16:49

noticed last year was that the bass

16:51

would feed pretty heavily at night time

16:53

in the summer you could hear them out

16:54

there on the dock feeding at night

16:56

around the pond so we don't have a ton

16:58

of data yet but if you just look back

17:00

over the past 2 weeks we have some

17:02

pretty interesting data so let's start

17:03

with a green light antenna on the left

17:05

so this graph makes perfect sense a lot

17:07

of the bass congregate around the green

17:09

light at night because that's where I

17:11

feed them and you can see that most of

17:12

the bass activity was between 4 and 700

17:15

p.m. but that data could be a little bit

17:17

biased because I'm out there feeding

17:19

them so the oak Throne is probably a lot

17:22

more like what you would see out in

17:23

other ponds and lakes and I found a

17:25

couple things very interesting so most

17:27

of the fish appearances occurred between

17:29

18 and 20 which again is right there at

17:32

dark and is pretty common so I wasn't

17:34

very surprised but what I was surprised

17:37

about was there being almost zero was

17:39

there being almost zero activity early

17:42

in the morning right at daylight so

17:44

typically that could be one of your best

17:45

fishing times but as you can see for

17:47

this twoe period the fish were not

17:50

active at all in this particular area

17:52

and we also did one more graph just to

17:54

see which fish were the most active in

17:56

each area so Jaws Odin and Excalibur

17:58

hang out around the green light and

18:00

Xavier Dixie and unit probably live near

18:03

the oak throne but we're going to keep

18:04

analyzing the data leave a comment below

18:07

if you'd like to see any particular

18:08

graph and check that out got the green

18:10

volcano matching the underwater green

18:12

lights

18:14

perfectly and you know here in the South

18:16

it is officially crawfish season and

18:18

this is our 10th Annual crawfish cooking

18:21

and I'll typically cook for around 70 to

18:23

100 people so it's going to get hectic

18:25

with five burners going at the same time

18:29

we got the Crawfish tables laid out over

18:31

here and you know if Nate makes is

18:32

around the tables are going to have to

18:34

have that engraved secon logo so we

18:37

start out by purging them and just

18:38

running a bunch of water through them

18:40

but the key to a successful crawfish

18:41

bowl is you have to Pardon one of the

18:43

Crawfish and release them back into the

18:46

wild and by far the best crawfish

18:49

seasoning you'll ever taste is a

18:51

combination between these two which are

18:53

swamp fire and the Louisiana seasoning

18:56

the swamp fire adds the spice the

18:57

Louisiana is the salt and we got the

19:00

Cajun butter for the potatoes and

19:01

sausage but trust me folks you cannot go

19:04

wrong with this recipe if you try it one

19:06

time you'll probably never try anything

19:08

else and if you're interested in our

19:09

exact recipe and how long to cook the

19:12

Crawfish potatoes sausage corn you can

19:14

go check out some of our old videos

19:16

where we have everything detailed and

19:18

listed out so pretty much everywhere in

19:19

the country's been experiencing some

19:21

crazy weather but thankfully all of ours

19:23

has been flooding and not tornadoes but

19:26

as you can see the Eagles are doing

19:28

their best to weather the storm up in

19:30

the eagle Tower but eventually it's just

19:32

too much and here's one thing you never

19:34

like to see because every time we get

19:36

those flood-like rains Cedar Falls goes

19:38

from Crystal Clear to muddy water but if

19:42

you look closely at all that water

19:43

that's flowing back there behind the

19:44

Wetland filter down into the drain

19:47

that'll give you an idea of exactly how

19:49

much water flow we had because at one

19:51

point the entire drain filled up and

19:54

started overflowing and that's got a 36

19:57

in pipe that HTS it down into the 5 acre

20:00

pond so that was a massive amount of

20:02

water flowing through that ditch and

20:04

it's also a major reason we put that

20:06

drain in there because had we not that

20:08

volume of water could have done a lot of

20:10

damage to Cedar

20:12

Falls and we got a visit from one of our

20:14

favorite farm animals the owl that we

20:16

call Hooter and Hooter's been doing a

20:18

little hunting tonight and I tried and

20:20

tried to see what type of animal this

20:22

was that he captured and brought up to

20:24

the eagle Tower at first I thought it

20:26

was a baby rabbit but the feet didn't

20:28

really match up so I'm not 100% sure

20:31

what this is but that's another reason

20:33

we built the squirrel house to give foxy

20:36

a little bit higher chances of survival

20:38

so this is a first for me a rainbow

20:40

trout jumped in the shallow part of the

20:42

pond and spooked The Blue Heron doesn't

20:44

look like he's having much luck today

20:46

and look at this little friendly guy I

20:48

found in the driveway this little guy is

20:50

making his

20:52

rounds and we also had a new duck show

20:55

up and I was a little surprised because

20:57

once the Eagles pretty much much moved

20:59

in all the Ducks left but you can see

21:02

this guy's relaxed and not a worry in

21:04

the world taking him a nice nap out here

21:07

in the pond so one of my subscribers

21:09

reached out last week and said did you

21:11

know you had an invasive grass out there

21:13

at the farm and this particular grass is

21:15

known as Coan grass or grass and is

21:18

extremely invasive down here in the

21:20

South and you can see these little

21:22

cotton-like tops are how they spread the

21:25

seeds and I did some research it is

21:27

extremely hard to kill and usually

21:30

requires several applications of Roundup

21:32

but I'm worried about doing that near

21:34

the pond so if any of you guys have

21:36

experience of getting rid of this grass

21:38

or if you know of a safe chemical to

21:40

spray around ponds let me know all right

21:43

time to go catch some fish see how big

21:44

they've gotten there's a little bit of

21:45

algae in the pond so we're going to try

21:47

out the Frog

21:53

today got him nice one

22:00

put up a good

22:03

F it's tough to beat

22:05

that it's one healthy

22:08

fish chunky all right this fish has been

22:12

caught before 56

22:13

9587 and it weighs 2.27 lb and this fish

22:18

is named Lily and Lily got the award for

22:21

the most aggressive fish last spring

22:23

because I caught her released her and

22:25

then caught her again 15 minutes later

22:37

oh

22:38

no get out of

22:40

there he got me in the Treet top I put

22:45

out not a

22:48

giant good fight

22:54

though there we go all right this fish

22:57

has not been caught his tag is going to

22:59

be 22

23:02

32598 he weighs

23:04

1.78

23:13

lb got

23:19

him where are you running

23:24

to we go all right this fish has been

23:27

caught 5 six

23:29

9705 anyways

23:32

1.65 and this fish is named turbo

23:35

putting on some weight a little at a

23:37

time and now it's time to feed Mr tiger

23:39

and this may be the last time you see us

23:40

feeding him because I'm pretty sure

23:42

we're about to move him out to the farm

23:44

so my question to you all is should we

23:46

put him in a 5 acre Pond and potentially

23:48

never see him again kind of like Bonnie

23:50

and Clyde or should we put him in Cedar

23:52

Falls and get to keep a close eye on him

23:54

let me know what you all think because

23:56

we're going to be moving him out this

23:57

week all right right folks that's going

23:59

to wrap up this video make sure to hit

24:00

that subscribe button to keep up with

24:02

these ponds and aggressive bass prawns

24:05

and even get to see who shows up in the

24:06

squirrel house but I hope y'all enjoyed

24:08

this one and we will see you all next

24:10

time
