-The federal investigation added another layer of complexity to the case. It was revealed that the lead investigator, Trooper Michael Proctor, might have had a personal relationship with some of the involved parties, which could potentially bias the investigation. The defense team used this information to question the integrity of the case against Karen Reed.

hey True Crime besties welcome back to

00:04

an all new episode of Serial

00:24

asly hey everybody welcome back to an

00:27

all new episode of Serial asly with me

00:30

Annie Elise boy oh boy do we have a case

00:34

to talk about today however before we

00:37

get into that I just wanted to jump on

00:40

and kind of do an announcement

00:42

disclaimer something like that you might

00:44

notice that my mouth is moving a little

00:46

bit differently and that I look a little

00:49

bit swollen don't worry it's not Botox

00:51

it's not filler I know you guys love to

00:53

say that but truth is I haven't gotten

00:55

Botox or filler in like well over a year

00:57

actually I take that back I did get

00:59

botox for my jaw and my masser muscles

01:01

before I had my most recent procedure um

01:04

as a last Stitch effort before having

01:06

surgery but anyways that kind of brings

01:08

me to that so basically most of you know

01:11

I have been struggling with a lot of jaw

01:13

issues since fall of last year I had a

01:15

small procedure done in December and it

01:18

seemed to have helped but it only really

01:20

helped for about 6 to 8 weeks and then

01:23

the pain came back and it was even more

01:25

severe so we did the master Botox hoping

01:27

that if we relaxed the muscle that maybe

01:29

that would fix it it didn't big surprise

01:32

so recently I went in and I had a more

01:34

invasive procedure now the good news in

01:37

all of this is that my jaw pain is

01:38

finally under control like I think we

01:41

finally figured it out fingers crossed

01:44

the bad news is I'm very swollen still I

01:47

have some nerve bruising as well and so

01:51

it's making my mouth move a little bit

01:53

differently it's also affecting my

01:55

speech a little bit it's getting better

01:57

and better every single day but it it's

02:00

not 100% I thought that the recovery was

02:02

only going to be a few weeks but it's

02:04

proving to take a little bit longer I

02:07

was going to take a break and just not

02:08

record until it got better but I was

02:10

like you know what no I can speak a lot

02:13

of these cases need to be known I'm

02:14

going to just do it anyway but that

02:16

being said you might notice that things

02:19

look different and I just wanted to come

02:20

on here and be transparent with what's

02:22

going on a lot of you I saw from my most

02:25

recent video on the Ruby Frankie case

02:26

you already knew that and knew that I

02:28

had surgery cuz I had talked about it in

02:30

one of my episodes I think and I had Amy

02:32

my sister actually do headline

02:34

highlights for me the week I had the

02:36

surgery cuz I couldn't speak at all I

02:37

was like closed shut but anyways long

02:40

story short things are swollen my mouth

02:42

is there's some nerve issues which will

02:45

get better it's just going to take time

02:47

and so because of that yeah look I'm

02:52

insecure like so many other people I'm

02:54

self-conscious about things like other

02:56

people so until things get better and

02:59

there's improve movement I am going to

03:00

be adding in more media and more b-roll

03:02

footage over these videos just because I

03:05

personally don't even like seeing the

03:06

inflammation and how how weird it makes

03:09

me look when I'm talking which call me

03:10

vain I it's not vain it's just like it's

03:12

something that bothers me and I'm

03:14

insecure about it I get insecure too

03:15

guys so um but anyways I know that

03:17

there's been some questions about what's

03:19

been going on I noticed um some people

03:21

have noticed that there are some

03:23

differences happening with my mouth and

03:24

so before everybody kind of runs rampant

03:27

and starts talking about all these crazy

03:29

rumors and bring up Botox and fillers

03:30

it's not that it's just I finally got my

03:33

jaw corrected but it is taking longer

03:35

than planned to heal so that's really

03:38

that so the case that we are talking

03:39

about today guys is one that is very

03:41

very controversial it is one that I

03:43

talked about several several months ago

03:46

very briefly it started kind of as like

03:48

a conspiracy case not a lot of people

03:51

were talking about it because it felt

03:53

very heavy into the conspiracy but

03:55

what's crazy is now mainstream media

03:58

sources are even talking about it and

04:01

they're full out point blank on their

04:03

headers while they're talking about it

04:04

they're saying is this a cold-blooded

04:07

murder or is this a cover up now

04:09

generally in any cases that we've seen

04:11

before where there is discussion of

04:13

possibly a cover up or possibly some

04:15

conspiracy media Outlets especially

04:18

mainstream ones never are bold enough to

04:20

like put that point blank as the header

04:22

on their coverage but it has become so

04:25

controversial and there are so many

04:28

different elements to this case that

04:30

could make you side one way or another

04:32

that they're calling it that it's pretty

04:33

wild to see so the case we're talking

04:36

about today is the one of Karen Reed on

04:39

January 28th 2022 Karen Reed and her

04:43

boyfriend Boston police officer johon

04:45

o'keef spent the night bar hopping and

04:48

then later that night they were invited

04:49

to a fellow police officer's house for

04:51

an Afterparty this was in Canton

04:53

Massachusetts so when Karen and John

04:55

arrived at the house Karen decided not

04:57

to get out of the car but Jon did now

05:00

what happened next is Up For Debate

05:02

prosecutors say that Karen was mad at

05:05

John and that in a drunken rage she

05:07

reversed her Lexus SUV and hit him then

05:10

drove off and left him to die in the

05:12

cold Karen on the other hand has a

05:15

completely different story she and her

05:18

defense team say that Jon 100% went into

05:21

that house for the Afterparty and that

05:23

something must have happened inside that

05:25

house after she left they believe that

05:28

whatever happened inside escalated

05:30

quickly and then Jon was placed outside

05:33

of the house where he was then found

05:35

dead in the morning now it's not

05:37

uncommon for criminal cases to have a

05:39

lot of gray areas meaning the jurors are

05:42

tasked with deciding The credibility of

05:44

witnesses to figure out the full story

05:46

right maybe there's some conflicting

05:48

eyewitness testimony or in some cases

05:51

jurors must decide if they believe the

05:52

defendants testimony from the stand but

05:55

typically this is coupled with some

05:57

black and white hard facts surveillance

05:59

video DNA digital evidence all of this

06:02

is pretty standard we see this all the

06:04

time right well imagine a scenario that

06:07

completely defies logic and just throws

06:10

all of that out the window and it turns

06:12

what should be black and white into a

06:14

massive gray area and that's exactly

06:17

what the Karen Reed case is just a deep

06:21

fog of gray now the reason that this

06:23

case is so polarizing with both sides

06:26

having such strong beliefs stems from a

06:28

few issues

06:30

this case has forensic data as well as

06:32

surveillance video information typically

06:34

seen as black and white it either exists

06:37

or it doesn't the video shows something

06:39

or it doesn't right well the defense and

06:41

the prosecution believe that the same

06:43

video shows two different things same

06:46

with the digital evidence I mean the

06:48

literal receipts they can't agree on

06:50

what that shows either and it's kind of

06:52

turned into this like Battle of the

06:54

experts on what the digital evidence

06:56

actually says see the defense is

06:58

alleging a cover up by the Massachusetts

07:01

State Police implying that multiple law

07:03

enforcement agents are involved in a

07:05

murder and that all of those officers

07:07

have extremely close ties to a

07:09

massachusett State Trooper the same

07:11

trooper that led the investigation into

07:13

Karen from the get-go there's a missing

07:16

dog there's missing flooring and on top

07:19

of that the US attorney's office of

07:21

Massachusetts has launched a federal

07:23

investigation into Karen's arrest and

07:26

prosecution now you might be wondering

07:28

what are you even talking about Annie

07:29

how on Earth did we get here so let me

07:33

break it down for you because this is a

07:34

pretty wild case Karen Reed is a

07:38

42-year-old Finance Professor from

07:40

Mansfield Massachusetts Karen started

07:42

dating John o'keef a Boston police

07:44

officer back in

07:45

2019 they actually had first dated in

07:48

their 20s before then later reconnecting

07:51

now Karen has a home in Mansfield but

07:53

once she and John became more serious I

07:55

mean for the most part she always stayed

07:57

at his house so it was almost as though

07:58

they lived together now let's get right

08:01

to the night in question which is

08:02

January 28th 2022 it was supposed to be

08:06

a normal Friday night typical the normal

08:08

kind of thing they would do JN and Karen

08:10

planned to just go to some local bars

08:12

have some drinks and meet up with some

08:14

of Jon's friends some of whom were also

08:16

fellow Boston police officers and that's

08:19

when the events in this case began to

08:21

unfold do you remember the massive

08:23

snowstorm that hit most of the US but

08:26

especially parts of the Northeast back

08:28

on January 9th 2022 this storm it had it

08:32

all I mean just insane amounts of snow

08:34

hurricane force wind gust and here along

08:36

the coastline just south of Boston we

08:38

had incredible waves that were banging

08:40

up against this newly reinforced seaw

08:42

wall and up over this this road and

08:44

these homes completely intuned encased

08:47

in ice and it's just a surreal scene

08:50

here storm after storm single digit

08:52

temperatures here again but looking at

08:54

this just a surreal scene that

08:56

highlights just how explosive and

08:58

historic this storm was well earlier

09:00

that morning at 6:04 a.m. a frantic

09:02

police call came into the department in

09:04

Canton Massachusetts a small suburb of

09:07

Boston the caller on the other end said

09:09

that a man John O'Keefe a Boston police

09:12

officer was lying in the middle of the

09:14

street and not responsive and that this

09:17

was outside of a home at 34 Fair viiew

09:19

Road officers sarif and meany were then

09:22

dispatched to the chilling scene when

09:25

they arrived they were met with three

09:28

distressed women in the front yard area

09:30

of the house waving desperately for

09:32

attention two of them were hunched over

09:34

JN trying to revive him with CPR the

09:38

women were identified as Karen Reed

09:40

Jennifer McCabe and Carrie Roberts

09:43

officer sarif felt Jon's lifeless body

09:46

and he was cold and he wasn't breathing

09:49

Canton Fire and EMS arrived just moments

09:52

later and Jon was rushed to the Good

09:54

Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton but

09:57

despite all of their efforts hours later

09:59

John O'Keefe was declared dead so let's

10:02

talk about John for just a minute here

10:04

because John was a 16-year veteran of

10:07

the Boston Police Department he was

10:09

known for his dedication not just to his

10:11

work but also to his family and his

10:14

friends Beyond his role as a police

10:16

officer he played a pivotal role in his

10:18

personal life as the sole caregiver to

10:21

his niece and nephew and he was only 46

10:23

years old when he died his tragic death

10:26

left not only his family but many people

10:29

in the Community just shocked and

10:30

completely devastated and more than that

10:33

the night before he was with Karen and

10:35

they had met up with Jon's friends a

10:38

huge group of people which included many

10:40

fellow Boston police officers and some

10:43

of their wives some of whom were even

10:45

related to each other and the house

10:46

where John was lying outside of where he

10:48

was found was owned by another Boston

10:51

police officer so how could this have

10:53

happened who would do this that's a

10:55

pretty Brazen move to kill a police

10:58

officer outside the home of another

11:00

police officer with a house full of more

11:03

police officers so naturally the next

11:05

thing that the Canton police officers

11:07

had to do was start their investigation

11:09

and get to the bottom of this who was

11:11

responsible what happened as other

11:14

Canton officers arrived at the scene

11:15

where Jon was found they started sifting

11:18

through the Mounds of snow they found a

11:20

broken cocktail glass and there were

11:22

splashes of red by the snow near it

11:25

thinking this was blood officers began

11:27

to process the cocktail glass as

11:29

evidence they began to question one of

11:31

the women Jennifer McCabe who was one of

11:33

the women at the scene when that 911

11:35

call came in Jennifer said that the

11:38

night before she was at the waterfall

11:40

bar and grill with her husband Matthew

11:42

Karen and John met up with them and with

11:44

a group of friends and they were all

11:46

hanging out at the waterfall around

11:48

11:00 p.m. she said that there were

11:50

several people in the group at the bar

11:52

and later on at the home on 34 Fairview

11:55

she said that Karen looked fine and

11:56

appeared to be happy and she said they

11:58

were AC very normal they weren't arguing

12:01

and nothing stood out to her it wasn't

12:03

just Jennifer who noticed this every

12:05

witness that the Troopers later

12:07

interviewed echoed the same sentiment

12:09

the night was calm it was friendly and

12:12

everyone seemed to be in a really good

12:14

mood so as the bar was beginning to

12:16

close around midnight Jennifer invited

12:18

JN and Karen to continue the party over

12:20

at her sister Nicole Albert's home right

12:23

there on 34 Fairview Road as Jennifer

12:26

was walking up to her car she received a

12:28

text message from John asking where to

12:31

this was at 12:14 a.m. Jennifer replied

12:35

with the address of 34 Fair viiew Road

12:38

at 12:18 a.m. John called Jennifer to

12:40

ask more specifically where the house

12:42

was located on Fair viiew while inside

12:45

the house she looked out the window and

12:47

saw a black SUV consistent with Karen's

12:49

car which is a 2021 black Lexus SUV pull

12:53

up in front of the house Jennifer then

12:55

texted John at 12:31 a.m. saying hello

12:59

and again at 12:40 a.m. saying pull up

13:01

behind me referencing to her vehicle's

13:04

parking spot within the driveway to the

13:05

home located right there on the right

13:07

side of the property while looking out

13:10

the window Jennifer said she saw the

13:12

black SUV shift from its original spot

13:14

on the street near the driveway to the

13:16

left side of the property which is where

13:19

Jon's body was found the following

13:21

morning at 12:45 a.m. Jennifer texted

13:24

John again saying hello and shortly

13:27

after she saw the black SUV depart part

13:29

from the property around 4:53 a.m.

13:32

Jennifer got a call from Karen Karen was

13:35

searching for John the call came in from

13:38

Jon's niece's phone though because Karen

13:40

asked her to call Jennifer for her

13:42

Jennifer picked up and chatted briefly

13:44

with the niece and then Karen got on the

13:46

phone Jennifer told the officers that

13:49

Karen sounded extremely distraught and

13:51

said that she was driving to Jennifer's

13:53

house apparently she told Jennifer that

13:56

her last memory of Jon was back at the

13:59

waterfall bar Jennifer corrected her by

14:02

saying that she had seen them leave the

14:03

bar together and that she saw Karen's

14:06

black Lexus outside the fair viiew house

14:09

well then being confronted with that

14:11

information Karen's story changed a

14:13

little bit Karen told Jennifer that the

14:15

last time that she had seen John maybe

14:17

they had an argument Karen made it over

14:20

to Jennifer's place around 5:30 a.m.

14:23

shortly after she got there Carrie

14:24

Roberts showed up because she also got

14:26

some frantic phone calls that morning

14:28

from Karen freaking out about not being

14:30

able to find JN so because of how upset

14:33

Karen was when she arrived at Jennifer's

14:34

house Jennifer decided to drive Karen's

14:37

vehicle back to Jon's house with Carrie

14:39

also following in her own car on the way

14:42

to Jon's house Jennifer said that Karen

14:44

suddenly blurted out could I have hit

14:47

him did I hit him then as they were

14:49

pulling up to Jon's house Karen

14:51

mentioned a broken tail light on her SUV

14:55

and when they got out of the car Karen

14:57

was quick to show Jennifer the damage

14:59

Jennifer saw the right rear tail light

15:01

was smashed and missing some pieces then

15:04

the two of them hopped into car's car to

15:06

keep searching for John Karen squeezed

15:09

into the back seat and Carrie took the

15:11

wheel and Jennifer rode shotgun Jennifer

15:14

said while they were driving down Fair

15:15

viiew Road the snow was coming down very

15:18

hard and the wind was no joke making it

15:21

very tough to see much of anything at

15:23

that moment just before they reached the

15:25

street number 34 on Fair viiew Road

15:28

Karen sh it out that she saw Jon by a

15:30

group of trees this caught Jennifer and

15:33

Carrie very off guard because neither of

15:35

them could spot him in all of that snow

15:38

but without missing a beat Karen was out

15:40

of the car running straight to where Jon

15:42

was lying covered by about a half a foot

15:45

of snow Karen then laid herself over him

15:48

trying to warm him up and started doing

15:50

CPR while Karen was frantic Jennifer

15:53

noticed Jon's phone just lying there

15:56

underneath him twice Karen shouted at

15:59

Jennifer telling her to Google and look

16:00

up how long do you have to be left

16:02

outside until you die from hypothermia

16:05

or something along those lines but

16:07

Jennifer and her recollection couldn't

16:08

be more specific Troopers also

16:11

interviewed Brian and Nicole Albert the

16:13

homeowners of 34 Fairview Brian Albert

16:17

is a fellow Boston police officer just

16:19

like John Brian and Nicole confirmed

16:21

that they had been out at the waterfall

16:23

bar that night hanging out with friends

16:24

and family they left around closing time

16:27

and headed back home they recalled

16:29

seeing both JN and Karen at the bar but

16:32

said that they didn't really know them

16:33

all that well and JN and Karen had just

16:35

joined their group for that evening

16:38

Brian and Nicole mentioned that after

16:39

the bar a bunch of people from their

16:41

crew came over to their place and hung

16:43

out for about an hour or so they

16:45

mentioned that their nephew Colin Albert

16:47

was home when they got back but he had

16:49

left way before the group from the bar

16:51

showed up at the house a couple of other

16:53

people that were inside that home the

16:54

previous night said the same thing

16:57

interestingly Brian and Nicole said that

16:59

they had no idea that JN and Karen even

17:01

thought about stopping by their house at

17:02

all after the bars but also said that if

17:05

they had it would have been no big deal

17:07

and they would have been fine had they

17:08

just shown up Brian and Nicole had no

17:11

idea what was going on outside their

17:13

home or that Jon was lying outside until

17:16

Jennifer let them know early that

17:18

morning several other people who were

17:20

there at Albert's house that night were

17:22

also interviewed another guy named Mr

17:25

Nagel was riding in a truck with his

17:26

friend and his sister Julie over to

17:29

Albert's house to drop off his sister

17:30

over at their get together they dropped

17:33

Julie off and as they were leaving he

17:34

believed he saw a large black SUV pull

17:37

up to the house right as he was leaving

17:40

he said it didn't seem like the other

17:41

driver put the SUV in park at any point

17:44

and he knew this because he could see

17:45

that the rear brake lights were

17:47

illuminated specifically the third top

17:49

Center light when they drove past the

17:52

black SUV he said the interior lights

17:54

were on in the car and he could see a

17:56

white female in the driver's seat

17:58

holding holding the steering wheel at 10

18:00

and 2 and staring straight ahead of her

18:04

other Witnesses were also interviewed

18:05

about who was there at the home that

18:07

night and it seemed to officers that all

18:09

of their stories were consistent with

18:11

each other and not one person said they

18:13

saw Jon at all after waterfall bar

18:17

Carrie Roberts told police that she got

18:19

a call around 5:00 a.m. from Karen who

18:21

was frantic Karen was saying why hasn't

18:24

Jon come home I'm so scared what if he's

18:25

dead what if a snowplow hit him all of

18:27

these things so Carrie quickly threw on

18:30

some clothes and drove over meeting

18:31

Karen at Jennifer's house Carrie could

18:34

see that Karen was acting weird maybe

18:36

even still a little bit drunk from the

18:38

night before she was repeating herself

18:40

saying she couldn't remember anything

18:42

from the previous night and said I was

18:44

so hammered Carrie I can't remember if

18:47

we even went to your sisters and Karen

18:49

seemed to be stuck on one

18:51

heart-wrenching question over and over

18:53

she asked everyone repeatedly around her

18:56

is he dead is he really dead at one

18:59

point she grabbed car's arm and said are

19:01

they really trying to save him or is he

19:03

gone on January 30th a trooper Proctor

19:06

and another Trooper interviewed Canton

19:08

firefighter Katie mcclaflin she had been

19:11

assigned to Station 1 on the 29th and

19:14

indicated that at approximately 6:00

19:16

a.m. the police call came through when

19:19

she and her team arrived at the scene

19:21

she saw Jon lying in the snow she said

19:23

that his eyes were extremely swollen

19:25

there was blood on his face and he had

19:28

vomit Stained on his lips Katie said she

19:31

approached a very distraught woman

19:33

nearby Karen hoping to get some

19:35

information about John and his medical

19:37

history Karen gave Jon's name and date

19:40

of birth Katie also asked Karen if she

19:42

knew where Jon had suffered the trauma

19:44

to his face and his eye and apparently

19:47

Karen turned around to one of her

19:49

friends and repeatedly said I hit him I

19:52

hit him I hit him and this was just the

19:55

beginning of a series of events that

19:58

were about to spiral so following their

20:01

initial witness interviews on January

20:02

29th the same Troopers went to Good

20:05

Samaritan to view Jon's body Jon's

20:07

clothing consisting of blue jeans an

20:09

orange T-shirt a long sleeve gray

20:11

t-shirt and boxer shorts were all

20:13

soaking wet and saturated with blood and

20:16

vomit John also had one black Nike

20:19

sneaker with a white Nike logo on the

20:22

side of it on January 31st a doctor from

20:25

the office of the chief medical

20:26

examiner's office conducted the autopsy

20:29

the doctor told Troopers that she

20:30

observed several abrasions to Jon's

20:33

right forearm the two swollen black eyes

20:36

a small Cut Above the right eye a cut to

20:38

the left side of his nose an

20:40

approximately 2 in laceration to the

20:43

back right of his head and multiple

20:45

skull fractures that resulted in

20:47

bleeding of the brain the doctor also

20:50

said that Jon's pancreas was a dark red

20:53

color indicating hypothermia was a

20:56

contributing factor to his death from

20:58

from the autopsy the doctor believed

21:00

that the significant blump force trauma

21:02

injuries occurred prior to Jon becoming

21:05

hypothermic and this because of the

21:07

hemorrhaging in his pancreas and stomach

21:09

and that when Jon arrived his body

21:11

temperature was reading in the low 80s

21:14

from all of this the doctor believed

21:17

that the extensive blunt force trauma

21:19

and brain bleeding likely made Jon

21:22

incapacitated and she said that she

21:23

didn't see any signs of Jon being

21:25

involved in any type of physical

21:27

altercation or fight meaning that it's

21:30

possible that Jon was still alive when

21:32

he was left out in the cold but couldn't

21:35

move at approximately 4:30 p.m. on

21:38

January 29th the same Troopers went to

21:40

Karen's parents house Karen's Lexus SUV

21:44

was outside and they were able to see

21:46

the rear light passenger side tail light

21:48

was shattered and a large piece of red

21:50

plastic was missing from that tail light

21:53

they were invited inside the home and

21:55

Karen agreed to talk with them so Karen

21:57

said she dropped off John at the house

22:00

on fair viiew but that she went home

22:02

because she was having stomach issues at

22:04

the waterfall she told them that when

22:06

she dropped Jon off she made a

22:08

three-point turn in the street and then

22:10

left and because of that she did not see

22:12

Jon enter the house Karen first saw her

22:15

broken tail light in the morning and did

22:17

not know how she had broken it the

22:19

previous evening Karen was adamant that

22:22

Jon was uninjured when she dropped him

22:24

off at that house she said that when she

22:26

found JN in the morning he was lying

22:28

face up snow on his legs his eyes

22:31

swollen and blood coming out of his nose

22:33

and mouth she stated that she began

22:35

providing him mouth to mouth immediately

22:37

additionally Karen said that she tried

22:39

to get a hold of Jon throughout the

22:40

night calling and texting him numerous

22:43

times but that Jon never answered her

22:46

Karen's Lexus SUV was immediately towed

22:48

from the driveway of Karen's parents

22:50

house and it was towed to the Canton

22:52

Police Department for them to process

22:54

additionally later on that day on the

22:56

29th the Massachusetts police special

22:59

Emergency Response Team searched the

23:01

vicinity of 34 Fair viiew Road there

23:05

they found another black Nike sneaker

23:07

matching the one that Jon was wearing

23:09

when he was found and in the thick of

23:11

the snow the team Unearthed two pieces

23:13

of plastic fragments one clear and one

23:16

red they were the missing pieces from

23:19

Karen's damaged tail light on February

23:22

first members of the Massachusetts State

23:24

Police crime scene Services section

23:26

including a crime lab chemist and the

23:29

collisions analysis reconstruction

23:31

section started processing the Lexus

23:35

they noted several pieces of evidence

23:37

during this process broken glass

23:40

fragments on the rear bumper a shattered

23:42

right passenger side tail light with

23:44

missing red and clear pieces and various

23:47

scratches and dents they also saw a

23:50

large scratch and minor dent on the

23:52

right side of the rear tail light and

23:55

chipped paint above the rear Bumper's

23:57

small red light they also ran tests on

24:00

the Lexus to make sure that the rear

24:01

backup camera system was working

24:03

properly they placed a life-sized 6ft

24:06

tall figure behind the SUV and began

24:09

filming as they reversed the vehicle

24:11

toward it the lexus's rear view camera

24:14

kicked into action displaying a clear

24:17

360° view on the dashboard screen as the

24:21

car got closer to the figure warning

24:23

alerts started playing indicating that

24:25

something was behind the car on February

24:28

22nd John's 10-year-old nephew CF and

24:31

14-year-old niece KF using their

24:33

initials because they're minors talked

24:35

at the Norfolk advocates for children

24:36

center in foxo Massachusetts the niece

24:40

said that Karen and JN had been fighting

24:41

a lot recently like two to three times a

24:44

week about a week before January 29th

24:47

she was sitting on the stairs in the

24:49

house and overheard them fighting the

24:51

niece heard John tell Karen that their

24:53

relationship was over and that it wasn't

24:55

good for them but Karen didn't want to

24:57

break up up and wouldn't leave on

25:00

January 29th Troopers found John's phone

25:02

and managed to get all of the info from

25:05

it the text the calls and the voicemails

25:07

between John and Karen specifically from

25:10

January 28th to 29th and it showed that

25:13

there were big problems in their

25:16

relationship JN wanted to break up and

25:19

Karen said that their relationship with

25:20

the kids was toxic on one of the

25:23

voicemails from Karen on John's phone

25:25

she was yelling and saying that she

25:27

hated him

25:29

also on January 29th Karen was taken to

25:31

the Good Samaritan Medical Center they

25:33

took a blood sample for medical reasons

25:35

and an expert in toxicology from the

25:37

Massachusetts State Police crime lab

25:40

reviewed these results so he estimated

25:43

that Karen's blood alcohol level at the

25:45

time that her blood was taken on the

25:47

29th was at about a 0.007% to 8% so then

25:52

doing the math and looking back from

25:53

there and backtracking he estimated her

25:56

BAC levels around at 12 45 a.m. might

25:59

have been between. 13% and.

26:03

29% and with that Karen Reed was

26:06

arrested in February of 2022 prosecutors

26:09

charged her with three crimes

26:11

manslaughter motor vehicular homicide

26:14

and the crime of leaving the scene of a

26:16

collision that caused a death but things

26:18

changed very quickly after a grand jury

26:21

was presented more of the information

26:23

that we just went through and Karen's

26:25

charges were upgraded to second degree

26:28

murder since her initial court hearing

26:31

after her charges were upgraded Karen's

26:33

defense team came out of the gate very

26:35

hot with a lot of theories of their own

26:37

and since then the case has become even

26:40

more complex in an interview with

26:42

Dateline highlighting what has been

26:44

going on in this case and the large

26:46

group of supporters that believe Karen

26:47

is innocent here's what Karen had to

26:56

say outside this court house in Canton

26:59

Massachusetts supporters swarmed around

27:01

Karen Reed charged with murder in

27:04

January 2022 death her boyfriend Boston

27:08

police officer John O'Keefe Reed has

27:10

strenuously denied the allegations I did

27:13

not kill joh O'Keefe I've never harmed a

27:17

hair on John O'Keefe's head her defense

27:20

bare knuckled and bold is making

27:22

National headlines her lawyers alleging

27:24

in court documents that a fellow police

27:26

officer was involved in O'Keefe's death

27:28

and colluded with other people in a

27:30

cover up you're alleging that law

27:33

enforcement officials in this state

27:34

committed murder and that they're

27:36

covering it up why would they want to be

27:38

involved in this because he's dead I I

27:41

think things went too far it was late

27:43

there was alcohol involved but they're

27:45

all family and there's there's many of

27:48

them involved after posting bail Reed

27:50

has spent much of the past 18 months in

27:53

and out of court awaiting a trial date

27:55

so let's break that down a little bit

27:57

here and get into more of what Karen's

27:59

defense has said in their motions and in

28:01

court first they insist that she is

28:04

innocent they claim she had no Criminal

28:06

Intent and highlighted her ongoing

28:09

medical issues including multiple

28:11

sclerosis colitis and a brain tumor and

28:14

now they suggest that Jon was definitely

28:17

inside the house and was actually

28:19

assaulted before being left outside

28:21

alleging Foul Play by other parties

28:23

inside that house and including a

28:26

potential cover up involving state and

28:28

local police so what does that actually

28:31

mean they used Jon's injuries as proof

28:34

of an alleged beating that took place

28:37

coupled with the homeowner Brian

28:39

Albert's German Shepherd attacking John

28:42

both times I met Brian Albert he he

28:43

seemed like the type of person that

28:44

you'd be surprised he's out socially cuz

28:46

he doesn't seem like he ever wants to be

28:48

there but at the bar Reed says there was

28:50

an invitation to continue hanging out at

28:53

Albert's home I said can we make sure

28:55

we're welcome here nobody extended the

28:58

invite to me I didn't hear the invite

29:00

extended to you they drive to the

29:02

Albert's house what happens next is

29:07

disputed so I pull at the foot of the

29:09

driveway it's snowing John has no coat

29:12

on it's windy so I drop him off he goes

29:15

up the driveway and approaches the side

29:17

door and as I see him approach the door

29:20

I look down at my phone Reed says after

29:22

about 10 minutes of waiting in her car

29:24

she became irritated that O'Keefe still

29:27

hadn't gotten in touch with her and she

29:29

drove back to his home where she

29:30

continued calling him before she says

29:33

she fell asleep around 1:30 in the

29:35

morning she then said she woke up before

29:37

5:00 a.m. he still wasn't home she then

29:40

started canvasing the neighborhood it's

29:43

going to drive around in the two square

29:45

miles that we spent the preceding night

29:48

after 20 minutes of unsuccessful

29:50

searching she called Jon's friend Carrie

29:52

Roberts and Jennifer McCabe Brian

29:55

Albert's sister-in-law who was also at

29:57

his house the night before they also

30:00

made claims from a search that they did

30:01

of a cell phone that belonged to someone

30:03

else at that house party and they used

30:06

this as proof saying that the state

30:08

police investigator in charge of the

30:10

case had ties to the homeowner and said

30:12

that people at the party coordinated to

30:14

point and blame falsely at Karen

30:18

additionally Karen had a much different

30:20

story to tell about some of the

30:22

arguments that Jon's niece and nephew

30:24

reported according to Karen Jon had been

30:27

relying more on her to take care of the

30:29

kids and he criticized some of the child

30:32

care decisions that she had made this

30:34

included an argument on New Year's Eve

30:36

in

30:37

2021 Karen said that Jon was

30:40

incoherently drunk and left her with his

30:42

niece and nephew leaving her feeling

30:45

like she was getting taken advantage of

30:47

Karen said that later on Jon profusely

30:49

apologized for what had happened but

30:52

then said If you can't get over it then

30:54

you need to spend some time at your

30:55

house I can't keep apologizing I don't

30:58

want to keep rehashing this there was

31:01

another situation the day before JN died

31:04

Jon's niece and nephew told

31:05

investigators that Jon and Karen argued

31:07

regularly and Jon had actually expressed

31:10

that he wanted to take a break from

31:11

their relationship completely but Karen

31:13

said that that's not what happened and

31:16

that the argument was over what she fed

31:18

his niece for breakfast Karen spoke out

31:20

after one of her hearings a reporter

31:23

named Steve Cooper from Boston news7

31:25

asked Karen just to be clear you didn't

31:28

do it and her response said it

31:32

all we know who did it Steve we know and

31:35

we know who spearheaded this cover up

31:37

you all know yes we do and no she didn't

31:40

do it no she didn't do it this is an

31:42

innocent woman we're not going to rest

31:44

until we get to the bottom of exactly

31:46

who's behind this cover up because not

31:48

just not only Karen Reed deserves this

31:50

John O'Keefe John o'keef deserves this

31:53

and has deserved this from Moment One

31:55

Reed's lawyers maintain O'Keefe was

31:57

attacking by a dog and beaten inside the

31:59

Canton home she dropped him off at

32:01

before she drove away a prosecutor say

32:04

Reed ran over o'keef and left the scene

32:06

after a night of drinking and they say

32:09

Reed's legal team is simply furthering a

32:11

conspiracy theory but Reed maintains her

32:14

innocence but it feels we're the only

32:16

ones fighting for the truth of what

32:18

happened to John O'Keefe and me and my

32:20

family and my attorneys and my team have

32:22

marshaled every resource to get to the

32:24

truth it just feels like no one else

32:26

wants it a lot of people have wondered

32:28

how someone could hit another person

32:29

hard enough to leave them seriously

32:32

injured and not notice even if they had

32:34

been drinking would it not have shaken

32:36

the car was there not a sound we know

32:38

that from law enforcement's testing that

32:40

the Lexus SUV's rear camera system was

32:43

working and that the car was beeping

32:45

when an object was behind it considering

32:48

the evidence there aren't any

32:49

eyewitnesses who saw Karen hit John and

32:52

some legal analysts and law professors

32:55

have described the evidence presented by

32:56

the prosecution as pretty

32:59

circumstantial however prosecutors have

33:01

also pointed to compelling pieces of

33:03

evidence such as the red plastic

33:05

matching Karen's tail light that was

33:07

found at the scene and shards of the

33:09

cocktail glass embedded in the bumper

33:12

the red plastic bumper pieces found at

33:14

the scene by Trooper Proctor have also

33:16

been brought into question by many

33:18

people online though as well as by the

33:20

defense the main issue people were

33:22

having is understanding how they could

33:24

have found this evidence on the street

33:27

after so much time had passed especially

33:30

given the weather conditions on the 29th

33:32

and the fact that multiple snow plows

33:34

may have already been through the area

33:37

pieces of tailight where O'Keefe was

33:39

allegedly hit but the reads say it

33:41

wasn't until after Karen's SUV was in

33:44

the custody of law enforcement state

33:47

police reported Towing the Lexus to the

33:49

Canton police station at 5:30 p.m.

33:52

Nathan Reed says daylight video from his

33:54

dad's house shows the car was taken more

33:56

than an hour before for that they

33:58

confiscate Karen's car at my parents

34:00

residence in north titon at 4:16 p.m.

34:04

and somewhere in the neighborhood of

34:06

5:30 5:45 Mass state police search team

34:09

comes back to the scene they search the

34:11

scene then with two feet of snow and

34:13

pieces of a tail lamp are found on top

34:15

of the stone that coupled with how

34:17

crucial this evidence is in alleging

34:19

Karen's involvement has obviously raised

34:22

questions and don't worry we are going

34:24

to get deeper into that in just a minute

34:27

but even if we can get past that what

34:30

about when Jon's body was discovered and

34:32

Karen tells an EMS worker I hit him I

34:35

hit him I hit him well Karen's defense

34:37

says that that's not what happened at

34:39

all and that she was posing that as a

34:42

question instead of a statement and guys

34:45

things are about to get even crazier but

34:47

before we get into all that we are going

34:49

to take a quick break to have a word

34:51

from our sponsors of today's episode so

34:53

typical children's vitamins are

34:55

Growing Kids should never eat that's why

35:06

37:10

talk to anybody I don't want to see

37:11

anybody I don't want to text anybody I

37:13

just want to watch reality TV by myself

37:15

and then get in bed at literally 7:30

37:18

and I've noticed though that that is not

37:20

good for my friendships it is not good

37:22

for me feeling connected with other

37:24

people and I'm trying to figure out what

37:26

the right amount amount of socializing

37:28

is for me because I tend to just isolate

37:31

and that kind of brings me to my next

37:32

question what's the right amount of

37:33

socializing for you and how do you

37:35

hp.com okay so as everybody's going to

38:25

bat for Karen some of the people saying

38:27

she's guilty of it a lot of conflicting

38:29

opinions hearings start to begin the

38:32

bottom line here your honor is that

38:34

we've spent 15 months trying to uncover

38:37

the truth we are not afraid of whatever

38:41

evidence is UN Unearthed from whatever

38:43

Source because for 15 months every

38:47

Stitch of evidence has been consistent

38:49

with my client's innocence we are as

38:52

indicated in our papers we are seeking

38:54

summonses and this is dealing with the

38:56

animal control issue that that rule 17

38:59

motion we're seeking summons is directed

39:01

at two entities the Canton Animal

39:03

Control and the Canton town clerk both

39:05

they we believe they both have records

39:07

we know they both have records these are

39:09

records that we need the defense needs

39:11

to shine a light on Karen Reed's

39:13

innocence these are records that are

39:14

Central to our theory of the case and

39:17

these are records that we have no other

39:18

option to get but through a summon

39:20

they've indicated to us they have the

39:22

records but they need a court order they

39:24

need some sort of a summons you're and

39:27

furtherance of this motion I want to

39:29

talk for a quick second about a couple

39:30

of Undisputed facts Undisputed fact

39:33

number one uh on January 29th 2022

39:37

officer John o'keef was found dead in

39:39

the yard of Brian Albert at his house at

39:42

34 Fairview in Canton that is Undisputed

39:45

fact where he was found dead and what

39:48

the circumstances were surrounding that

39:50

death are why we're here

39:52

now second Undisputed fact when joh

39:55

o'keef was found

40:01

he had this set of wounds on his right

40:05

arm the medical examiner indicated that

40:08

these wounds were concomitant with his

40:10

death in terms of the the temporal uh

40:14

the time that he died uh these were

40:16

wounds that he suffered at or near the

40:18

time that he died and the Commonwealth

40:19

looks at these wounds and says yeah

40:22

there's nothing nothing to see here why

40:24

are we looking at this this is uh you

40:25

know your your following a red herring

40:28

basically this is just a road rash uh

40:31

this means nothing it it it has no

40:33

impact on our case one way or the other

40:35

this is according to the Commonwealth

40:37

simply a set of injuries that joh

40:39

O'Keefe suffered at the hands of being

40:41

struck by a moving vehicle well first I

40:45

would ask the common sense question does

40:47

this look like a road rash I mean the

40:49

Court's got years decades of experience

40:51

life experience and legal experience of

40:54

course this doesn't look like a road

40:55

rash it's not a road rash that any of us

40:57

have ever seen or does it look more like

40:59

claw marks and bite marks from an animal

41:03

which is exactly what they are second if

41:07

it was a road rash where's the rest of

41:09

the road rash the had one set of

41:13

injuries like this deep scratches deep

41:16

puncture wounds on his arm on his right

41:18

arm only from mid biceps to Mid forearm

41:22

and no other place for instance mid

41:25

biceps and mid forearm that you might

41:27

put in front of your face or your body

41:30

if a large animal was attacking

41:32

you resulting in these

41:35

wounds why is are the wounds confined

41:38

just to his right arm what about all the

41:40

other pointy bits of a human body if

41:43

someone is rolled under a car or rolled

41:46

because in gravel because of the car

41:48

what about the shoulders what about the

41:49

knees what about the ankles what about

41:51

the elbows none of that exists these are

41:54

the only wounds they're confined to his

41:56

right arm and their deep scratch W

41:58

wounds puncture wounds that are

42:00

indicative of claw marks and bite marks

42:03

from a large animal and third what about

42:06

the Commonwealth sell expert she has to

42:08

have ained about this correct she has to

42:11

have said during the grand jury I mean

42:13

this was a full-throated investigation

42:15

surrounding the potential murder of a

42:17

police officer what does the the

42:19

Commonwealth's own expert say first of

42:22

all she was never asked by the

42:24

Commonwealth during the course of the

42:26

grand jury about the injuries it took a

42:29

grand juror actually asking the question

42:31

of the witness and she said no I cannot

42:34

say that is a road rash there's

42:35

certainly not enough evidence to suggest

42:37

that these wounds are consistent with a

42:39

road rash well she had to have at least

42:41

talked about the fact that it was an

42:43

animal right she had to the Commonwealth

42:46

had to have asked that question she

42:48

actually said nothing about whether or

42:51

not that's consistent with an animal

42:53

because the Commonwealth very

42:55

particularly did not ever posed that

42:58

question but we did we hired one of the

43:02

preeminent medical examiners in the

43:05

country a Doctor by the name of Sheridan

43:07

Frank Sheridan and he wasn't some Deputy

43:09

medical examiner Dr Frank Sheridan was

43:12

the medical examiner for San Bernardino

43:14

County in California with more than

43:17

12,000 autopsies under his belt the

43:20

supervising medical examiner for one of

43:22

the largest counties in California and

43:24

he concluded to a scientific certainty

43:29

that these wounds are from an animal

43:31

attack period full

43:35

stop so what do we know about

43:41

animals and the

43:44

AL which is exactly

43:48

where officer John O'Keefe was found

43:51

dead in February of

43:54

2017 we know that the Alberts had a dog

43:57

was a photograph of Brian Albert and

44:00

with a dog Chloe in the foreground by

44:03

2019 the Albert family had registered

44:05

ownership of that German

44:08

Shepherd moving on to 2022 in January of

44:12

2022 specifically January

44:14

29th joh o'keef suffers these animal

44:18

puncture wounds these animal scratches

44:19

the animal these animal bite marks that

44:22

are here to for and up to this date

44:25

today completely unexp explain by the

44:28

Commonwealth by May of

44:30

2022 Karen Reed's defense team starts

44:33

asking questions about this animal about

44:36

these injuries about the dog about what

44:38

dog existed at the Brian's at the

44:41

Albert's house uh where is the dog we

44:44

started inquiring pretty significantly

44:46

that same month

44:49

amazingly the Alberts informed the C

44:52

animal control that the dog was

44:55

remarkably and mysteriously

44:58

rehomed the dog was gotten rid of and to

45:02

dat the Commonwealth has yet as my C

45:06

colleague just mentioned has yet to

45:08

release the tissue samples to us for DNA

45:11

testing to determine if there's evidence

45:14

in these

45:15

wounds of a canine attack which we

45:18

believe there will

45:25

be during that grand jury testimony

45:30

Brian Albert admitted to three

45:33

things number one he admitted that he

45:35

owned a large German Shepherd his words

45:38

not mine a large German Shepherd number

45:40

two he admitted that the dog was at his

45:43

home on the night John O'Keefe early

45:46

morning hours John O'Keefe was killed on

45:49

January 29th 20122 and the dog according

45:53

to his own testimony was inside the

45:56

house and never in the front yard which

45:59

is where John oi's body was ultimately

46:02

found and the third thing that he

46:04

admitted was that the dog was quote not

46:07

great with strangers end quote that's a

46:10

dog owner's euphemism for the dog bites

46:14

the dog attacks the dog is mean or can

46:16

be

46:18

mean so why wouldn't the Commonwealth

46:21

ask about these injuries why wouldn't

46:22

the Commonwealth inquire as we have been

46:25

inquiring about the nature these

46:27

injuries and their significance in terms

46:29

of John o' kei's death it's because they

46:32

know that the answer completely

46:34

obliterates their case their theory of

46:37

homicide would fold if they got the true

46:40

answers to these questions the answer

46:43

exculpates Karen Reed and the answer

46:47

inculpates Ryan Albert that's because if

46:51

that dog was inside the house that night

46:54

not on the front lawn not in the front

46:57

yard but inside the house and these

47:01

injuries were suffered or sustained at

47:04

the time John O'Keefe was killed then

47:07

that means J O'Keefe was inside the

47:10

house when he was

47:12

killed and it also means that his body

47:15

was

47:16

moved that's consistent with the facts

47:19

that we also know to be true which is

47:21

not one person not one person that was

47:25

in that house and ultimately exited that

47:28

house from that party that night not one

47:31

saw joh O'Keefe's body laying in the

47:34

cold in the front yard and that's

47:37

because he wasn't there yet multiple

47:40

people walked out of the house multiple

47:42

people who would have no other reason

47:44

who had would have no reason to lie

47:46

about that a 200 lb man 6'2 lying in the

47:51

front yard on a light dusting of snow in

47:54

dark clothing not one person saw him

48:02

but if John O'Keefe was beaten

48:03

unconscious in for instance the basement

48:07

of that house and later moved to the

48:10

front yard after the guests had

48:12

left there's your answer as to why no

48:15

one saw him and it also answers two

48:18

other questions which are looming in

48:21

this

48:22

case why would Brian Albert rip out the

48:24

floor of his basement months after joh

48:28

o'keef was

48:30

killed the second

48:33

question why would he sell his

48:36

house so in the months following j o

48:39

Keef's death the dog has been gotten rid

48:42

of got rid of the evidence in the

48:45

basement got rid of the house the crime

48:48

scene

48:49

itself your honor I would submit to the

48:52

court that evidence is literally being

48:54

destroyed right under our nose

48:58

it's been reported that the federal

49:00

authorities have now gotten involved in

49:02

the circumstances surrounding this case

49:04

and are have impanel a grand jury a

49:06

Federal grand jury to investigate some

49:08

of these circumstances but Karen Reed

49:11

should not have to wait for the feds to

49:13

figure out which heads should roll our

49:17

understanding is at least up to this

49:18

point is that the dog was not only

49:20

rehomed or rehomed out of state out of

49:23

the jurisdiction of this court and out

49:25

of the reach of the defense or at least

49:27

that was the attempt we need those

49:29

records to find where that dog is if the

49:31

dog still exists we need a saliva sample

49:34

we need a hair sample we need something

49:36

and then we need the Commonwealth to

49:38

give us the tissue samples that were

49:39

taken at the time so that they can be

49:41

compared we know that he was beaten

49:44

we've got evidence that John o' was

49:45

beaten that he lay there unconscious and

49:48

we also have evidence that at the time

49:50

he was beaten facially and and blunt

49:54

force was used against the back of his

49:55

head he was also attacked by an

49:58

animal well Brian Albert who's a known

50:03

fighter owns a 90 lb German

50:07

Shepherd that has since been gotten rid

50:10

of and had a skin piercing incident as

50:13

the excuse for having gotten rid of it

50:16

so we know that the dog attacks

50:18

according to to sort of uncontroverted

50:20

evidence this is the first I've heard of

50:22

the Commonwealth's new position after

50:25

what 15 16 months

50:27

that somehow John O'Keefe was stabbed or

50:32

cut up with a broken cocktail

50:35

glass which would

50:38

produce these

50:41

injuries that makes absolutely no sense

50:44

it just doesn't pass the slip test these

50:46

are not from a cocktail glass who did

50:49

that to him is there is there new theory

50:52

that Karen Reed got out of the car broke

50:55

a cocktail glass that wielded an edge of

50:58

that cocktail glass and cut up John's

51:00

arm then John stood there while she

51:04

jumps in the car slams it into reverse

51:07

then hits him with the car with her tail

51:09

light in the back of the head it it it

51:13

makes absolutely no sense that is the

51:16

Commonwealth grasping at straws if it

51:18

walks like a duck and talks like a duck

51:21

it's a duck Karen's defense team dropped

51:23

even more bombs that some believe have

51:25

changed everything in this case they now

51:28

claim that someone inside the home

51:30

searched on Google for how long to die

51:32

in the cold and that this search was

51:34

made at 2:27 a.m. hours before Karen is

51:38

seen leaving Jon's house in the

51:40

surveillance footage and long before

51:42

John was discovered for instance

51:44

Jennifer mccab he said Jennifer mccab

51:47

was not up all night there's no evidence

51:49

whatsoever that Jennifer mccab was up

51:50

all night except for her apple Health

51:53

Data which shows that she was up all

51:55

night we didn't make that data up that

51:58

data came right from a a cell phone cell

52:00

phone extraction that was conducted in

52:02

no small part by their own expert and

52:05

then reconducted by our own

52:08

expert how about the fact that she was

52:10

actually on the phone

52:12

searching the Safari data establishes

52:15

that Not only was she up all night but

52:17

that the phone and Safari was being

52:19

manipulated during those times at 2:00

52:23

3:00 in the morning everything that

52:25

we've suggested is supported by the data

52:27

the evidence and the facts the

52:29

Commonwealth theory is supported by

52:31

conjecture and really bad policing their

52:35

expert Mr Bina indicated oh well you

52:38

can't rely on the Tim stamp of how long

52:41

to die in cold because that's at the

52:43

exact same time as the Ozark basketball

52:47

web page was brought up so something

52:51

must have gone wrong I don't really know

52:53

what it was but it must have been

52:54

something well what we would do had we

52:56

had an opportunity to cross-examine Mr

52:58

Gino is perhaps explain to him that

53:01

which he doesn't know which is the

53:03

following more than one web page can be

53:05

up and open on a on a cell phone at any

53:08

given time the court knows this

53:10

everybody who owns a cell phone knows

53:12

this you can have multiple Pages open

53:14

one page is sitting on top of the other

53:16

and then there are multiple Pages behind

53:18

it all those pages are still open and

53:20

potentially running in the program in

53:24

the

53:25

iPhone the

53:27

227 how long to die in cold search was

53:31

nanoseconds

53:33

milliseconds

53:35

before the oo uh Ozark basketball search

53:40

page came

53:42

up how did Apple cocoa core time relate

53:48

those two events those two artifacts on

53:51

the phone it happened like this at some

53:55

point she searched using her thumbs the

53:57

Apple iPhone

53:59

doesn't coordinate the Tim stamp for

54:02

when she's using your thumbs people type

54:03

faster people type slower it coordinates

54:06

when someone exits out of a search in

54:09

other words when you close that web page

54:11

she obviously Google searched how long

54:14

to die in cold we know that because we

54:15

found the search the deletion was not

54:19

the deletion of the search it was the

54:20

deletion of the page and as soon as that

54:22

page was deleted the other page behind

54:26

it Ozark basketball was immediately

54:28

populated and when I say immediately not

54:30

at the same time Nan behind it so we

54:35

know that she was Googling how long to

54:37

die in cold at minimum at minimum 3

54:42

hours before John O's body was ever

54:44

found this is not some anomaly it's not

54:47

a question it's not as their new expert

54:50

says unknown why the Google search uh

54:54

took place or the Tim stamp uh is what

54:56

it is at 22740 we actually know Rick

54:59

green knows his colleagues know and the

55:02

scientific Community knows who could

55:03

have searched that was there a party

55:05

goer who searched that in the house the

55:07

prosecution has been adamant that

55:09

Jennifer McCabe had that Google search

55:11

of how long to die in the cold because

55:13

she was directed to do so by Karen on

55:15

the morning that they found John and

55:17

that this search was not done at 2:27

55:19

a.m. but actually done just after 6:00

55:22

a.m. later on surveillance video from

55:25

The Ring camera that showed the driveway

55:27

of Jon's house and captured Karen

55:29

backing up her car was released so she's

55:31

pulling out in the black

55:33

SUV and that's the victim's SUV

55:37

parked and the defense says that she

55:39

makes contact hits the victim's SUV

55:43

right there damaging that back right

55:45

passenger side tail light and they also

55:48

claim you can see you know the victim's

55:50

SUV move indicating that there was a

55:52

collision and then as she pulls away

55:54

they say that you can tell there's

55:56

missing parts of the tail light C right

55:58

but it would have been missing if if it

56:00

if it was a result of striking uh

56:03

officer O'Keefe at that time also here's

56:04

a closer look at it uh once again as

56:07

we're we're backing up here keep your

56:09

eye and see if you see any movement here

56:11

from the other

56:15

car that's very possible very postion

56:18

doesn't say there's cont if the whole

56:20

case was how did the tail light get

56:22

broken you've got Reasonable Doubt right

56:24

thereon doubt yes you've got reason out

56:26

right there cuz you you can't tell but

56:27

it's very reasonable to think that at

56:29

that point you could have broken that

56:30

tail light okay wow as the defenses

56:34

claims started to circulate around the

56:37

internet some people who fully believed

56:39

the defense were said to have been

56:41

harassing the allegedly involved

56:42

individuals in this case and finally the

56:45

district attorney said enough is enough

56:47

and this needs to stop these claims are

56:49

absolutely

56:51

baseless this will be the first

56:53

statement of its kind in my Dozen Years

56:55

is not district

56:57

attorney the harassment of witnesses and

57:00

the murder prosecution of Karen Reed is

57:02

absolutely

57:04

baseless it should be an outrage to any

57:07

decent person and it needs to

57:11

stop innuendo is not evidence false

57:15

narratives are not

57:17

evidence however what evidence does show

57:19

is that John O'Keefe never entered the

57:22

home at 34 Fairview Road in Canton the

57:24

night he died

57:26

location data from his phone recovered

57:29

from the lawn beneath his body when he

57:30

was transported to the hospital shows

57:33

that this phone did not enter that

57:35

home 11 people have given statements

57:39

that they did not see John O'Keefe enter

57:41

the home at 34 fie that night zero

57:46

people have said that they saw him enter

57:49

the home zero no

57:52

one some have without any evidence

57:55

pointed to 18-year-old Colin Albert a

57:58

nephew of the homeowner and accused him

58:00

of attacking John O'Keefe as he entered

58:02

the home but phone evidence shows o'keef

58:05

never entered the home at

58:07

all testimony from Witnesses tell us

58:10

that 18-year-old Colin Albert had left

58:12

his uncle's home before John O'Keefe and

58:15

Karen Reed had arrived outside the

58:17

residence there was no fight inside that

58:20

home Jon o'keef did not enter the

58:23

home Colin Elbert the young man being

58:26

vilified was not present when Reed's

58:28

vehicle and John o'keef arrived on the

58:30

street this is a false

58:34

narrative Colin Albert didn't commit

58:37

murder Jennifer McCabe Matthew McCabe

58:40

and Brian Albert these people were not

58:43

part of a conspiracy and certainly did

58:45

not commit murder or any crime that

58:48

night they have been forthcoming with

58:50

authority providing statements and have

58:53

not engaged in any cover up they had not

58:56

suspects in any crime they are merely

58:58

Witnesses in the

59:00

case to have them accused of murder is

59:02

outrageous to have them harassed and

59:05

intimidated based on false narratives

59:07

and accusations is wrong they are

59:10

witnesses doing what our justice system

59:12

asked of

59:14

them the autopsy of John AEF was

59:17

conducted by a forensic pathologist from

59:19

the office of the chief medical examiner

59:21

the doctor found that the injuries that

59:23

left John helpless in the cold when not

59:26

a result of a fight she further found

59:29

that the line of abrasions on his arm

59:32

was consistent with blunt trauma not an

59:34

animal

59:37

attack a grand jury of everyday citizens

59:40

heard the documented evidence and

59:42

testimony before making a decision the

59:45

subject of that murder indictment enjoys

59:47

the Constitutional presumption of

59:50

innocence why should the witnesses who

59:52

have committed no crime be afforded less

59:55

by members of the community

59:57

they should not be harassed for telling

59:58

the government what they heard or

60:00

saw I'm asking the Canton Community and

60:04

everyone who feels invested in this case

60:06

to hear all the actual evidence at trial

60:09

before signing guilt to people who have

60:10

done nothing wrong and certainly before

60:13

taking it upon yourself to harass

60:15

citizens who evidence shows have done

60:18

nothing in this matter but come forward

60:20

and bear

60:22

witness we try people in the court and

60:25

not on the internet for a reason the

60:27

internet has no Rules of Evidence the

60:30

internet has no punishment for

60:32

perjury and the internet does not know

60:35

all the

60:37

facts conspiracy theories are not

60:40

evidence the idea that multiple Police

60:43

Department EMTs fire Personnel the

60:46

medical examiner and Prosecuting

60:48

agencies are join in or taken in by a

60:50

vast conspiracy should be seen for what

60:53

it is completely contrary to the

60:55

evidence and a desperate attempt to

60:57

reassign

60:59

guilt Michael Proctor the state police

61:03

Trooper being accused of planting

61:05

evidence outside 34 Fairview Road was

61:08

never at Fairview Road on the day of the

61:11

incident Proctor and his State Police

61:13

partner traveled together the entire day

61:16

while other officers were processing 34

61:18

Fair viiew Trooper Proctor was not there

61:22

and did not plant evidence at 34 Fair

61:25

viiew Road

61:27

in addition to having no opportunity to

61:29

plant the evidence as has been

61:32

suggested Proctor would have no motive

61:34

to do so troa proa had no close personal

61:39

relationship with any of the parties

61:41

involved in the investigation and had no

61:44

conflict and he had no reason to step

61:46

out of this investigation every

61:49

suggestion to the contrary is a

61:52

lie this should be seen for what it is

61:55

and not used as the pretext to attack

61:56

and harass

61:58

others what is happening to the

62:00

witnesses some with no actual

62:02

involvement in the case is

62:04

wrong it is contrary to the American

62:06

values of fairness and the

62:08

Constitutional value of a fair trial it

62:11

needs to stop

62:14

now now this is why the case has

62:16

everybody split on one hand you have a

62:20

snowplow driver who said he didn't see

62:22

Jon's body you have multiple people

62:24

leaving the Albert's home that night

62:26

after Karen left and also didn't see

62:28

Jon's body you have a missing dog

62:31

missing carpet that was cut out of the

62:33

basement you also have the Alberts who

62:35

sold their home on 34 Fairview you have

62:38

an alleged coverup by Trooper Proctor

62:41

and the Alberts you have other people

62:43

that drove dark colored SUVs you also

62:46

have the surveillance camera of what

62:47

some people believe shows Karen actually

62:49

breaking her tail light on John's SUV

62:52

when she was backing up in the driveway

62:54

you have Jennifer's Google SE Arch about

62:56

how long it takes to die in the cold and

62:59

then on the other hand you have Karen

63:01

and she's drinking heavily on camera at

63:03

least seven drinks you have surveillance

63:06

footage from different buildings in the

63:07

city that show a black SUV and Karen's

63:10

phone activity placing her there and

63:12

then all of the witness's testimony

63:14

about Karen's Behavior her admission of

63:17

saying that she was hammered and doesn't

63:18

remember going to the Albert's home you

63:21

have John's niece and nephew saying that

63:22

he wanted to break up with her you have

63:24

the voicemails and the text messages

63:26

between Jon and Karen and the fact that

63:28

Karen was talking about her tail light

63:30

being broken so much of this case has

63:32

been a media sensation because of how

63:35

many people outside the courthouse have

63:37

rallied to support Karen now one of

63:39

those people is a very confrontational

63:41

blogger named Aiden Carney he's also

63:44

known as turtle boy and I'm going to

63:47

refer to him as Turtle Boy even though I

63:48

want to call him by his name Aiden

63:51

however it's because all of these other

63:52

media Outlets call him turtle boy so for

63:54

the sake of not confusing you are

63:56

thinking like that there are two

63:57

different people down the road if you

63:58

begin following this case we're just

64:00

going to call him turtle boy but anyways

64:02

in October of 2023 he was charged with

64:05

multiple counts of intimidation of a

64:07

witness juror or law enforcement

64:09

official and a single count of

64:12

conspiracy he has denied all of these

64:14

accusations though and says that his

64:16

opinions are protected by free speech

64:18

and also that he's being singled out

64:19

since he's been extremely vocal and law

64:21

enforcement isn't happy about that later

64:24

on State Police ended up up seizing

64:26

Karen's phones because police believed

64:28

that she may be involved in this witness

64:30

intimidation conspiracy through her

64:32

Communications with turtle boy you were

64:35

locked up for a while how long were you

64:36

locked

64:37

up I did 60 days Vinnie 60 days all

64:41

right now you're here tonight so I've

64:44

been reporting on a lot of allegations

64:46

against you and about you so I want to

64:49

talk about some of those and have you

64:51

respond and and I want to begin with the

64:54

relationship between you and Karen Reed

64:57

what exactly uh this is about because in

65:01

an affidavit that was filed by the

65:04

Commonwealth they are alleging that um

65:08

you made 189 phone

65:11

calls um to Karen Reed and you spoke to

65:15

her in excess of 40 hours and then a

65:18

woman named Jane who I believe is your

65:21

ex stated that you run everything by

65:26

Karen Reed

65:28

before you post anything before you say

65:31

anything you run it by her and you two

65:34

are kind of In Cahoots together and the

65:38

two sources that they have uh that the

65:41

government is using Lindsay and Natalie

65:44

are two of the least credible people on

65:46

Earth and God forbid Vinnie that a

65:49

reporter an award-winning journalist

65:52

speak to the subject of his reporting on

65:55

the phone Karen andreed yes guilty is

65:57

charged according to the search warrant

65:59

to seize Karen's phone Karen allegedly

66:02

leaked information about the

66:03

investigation to turtle boy she did this

66:06

using her friend from college as the

66:08

middleman she would do this by sending

66:10

her friend a message in an encrypted

66:12

messaging app called signal then the

66:14

friend would copy and paste or forward

66:17

that message to turtle boy now some of

66:19

these leaks included a recorded 911 call

66:22

it's not the actual recorded dispatch

66:24

audio but it's a recording of Jennifer

66:27

McCabe on the phone with the police it's

66:30

really difficult to hear but in the

66:31

recording you can actually hear Karen

66:33

yelling in the background and she sounds

66:35

genuinely upset and shocked to find JN

66:38

there however other people claim that

66:40

you can hear Jennifer McCabe whispering

66:42

to her sister Nicole Albert to stay

66:44

inside the house if true I feel like

66:47

this would be pretty suspicious since a

66:50

lot of people have questioned how in the

66:51

world a body is found on the front lawn

66:53

of somebody's home and the home owners

66:56

don't even come outside to see what's

66:58

going on but more importantly the

66:59

defense asks an even bigger question

67:02

here why did the police never go inside

67:05

the house that day why was the

67:07

investigation always pointing to Karen

67:10

from the outset I'm going to be honest

67:12

personally the audio is too low quality

67:15

for me to hear any Whispering about

67:16

staying inside of the house and I've

67:18

listened to it multiple times but I'm

67:20

going to play it and you can tell me

67:22

what you think um yes I need someone

67:46

innow we the blanket I don't

67:54

see

68:04

[Music]

68:13

I don't know he out of the car and get

68:18

he

68:24

Carrie

68:48

I know I'm

68:53

on so as Karen's trial was getting

68:56

closer a massive bomb was dropped and

68:59

what happens next is truly wild but we

69:02

are going to take a final break to hear

69:04

from our last sponsors of today's

69:05

episode now you guys know I live for

69:08

Diet Coke I suck at staying hydrated and

69:11

I'm just going to be honest it affects

69:12

everything it affects my skin it affects

69:14

my mood it gives me headaches I mean all

69:16

the things so whether you hydrate to

69:18

live like me or you live to hydrate

69:21

liquid IV quenches your thirst faster

69:23

than water alone with three times the

69:26

electrolytes of the leading sports drink

69:28

plus eight vitamins and nutrients for

69:29

everyday Wellness they are like the

69:31

go-to for hydration and it's all in a

69:34

single sugar-free stick now for me that

69:37

is what I love most it is such

69:38

convenient packaging so I always have

69:40

them stuffed in my purse stuffed in my

69:42

bag in my car so that anywhere I'm at no

69:44

matter what I'm doing I can take one and

69:46

pour it into a water bottle a glass of

69:48

water at a restaurant anything wherever

69:49

I am it just makes it so much easier to

69:51

stay hydrated because I'm not somebody

69:53

who can commit to eight glasses of water

69:55

per day but one stick plus 16 o of water

69:59

hydrates better than water alone it also

70:01

comes in so many delicious flavors so it

70:03

doesn't have to taste like just boring

70:05

old gross tasteless water personally I

70:08

love the white peach it's my absolute

70:10

favorite because it's like the perfect

70:11

amount of freshness it's crisp it's

70:13

refreshing and now I feel like I'm

70:15

always on my aame I can tell when I'm

70:17

not as hydrated as I should be it makes

70:19

such a difference so however you hydrate

70:22

grab your liquid IV hydration multiplier

70:24

sugar-free and bulk nationwide at Costco

70:27

or get 20% off your first order when you

70:30

70:32

70:35

70:37

today using promo code AE liquid i.com

70:42

all right guys so where was I let's jump

70:44

back into this case on December 5th 2023

70:47

Boston 25 News reported that the US

70:50

attorney's office was conducting an

70:52

investigation into Karen's arrest and

70:54

prosecution 25 investigates has learned

70:58

that the Nori County district attorney

71:00

Michael morsy sent a letter to the

71:02

Department of Justice those are the feds

71:05

folks okay so you've got the local

71:07

prosecutor sending a letter to the feds

71:10

requesting that the federal probe of the

71:13

Karen Reed case be transferred out of

71:16

Massachusetts so in the middle of of

71:18

trying to prosecute someone for

71:21

murder the feds are looking at the

71:24

people who investigated the case and

71:27

investigated Karen

71:28

Reed then during a hearing on January

71:31

18th 2024 one of Karen's defense

71:34

attorneys dropped another bombshell that

71:37

specifically the district attorney in

71:39

Karen's case da morisy is the target of

71:42

the investigation however the US

71:44

attorney's office said that they aren't

71:46

targeting anyone a few days later

71:49

several letters between the DA's office

71:51

and US attorney's office concerning

71:53

Karen Reed's case were unsealed some of

71:56

these letters from the DA's office asked

71:58

for the case to be transferred from the

71:59

Massachusetts us attorney's office which

72:01

was ultimately denied but what's crazy

72:04

is that that specific letter dated back

72:06

to August of

72:08

2023 but the communication about the

72:10

federal investigation began back in May

72:13

of

72:14

2023 which is absolutely insane because

72:18

there had been rumors and speculation

72:20

for months about a federal investigation

72:23

into the DA's office and into the state

72:26

police because of this case but the DA's

72:28

Office flat out denied it outright

72:30

saying it's not true but now we know

72:33

that they were in Communications with

72:35

the US attorney's office in regards to

72:37

this case they knew that there was an

72:38

investigation and they did not disclose

72:40

that to the defense and instead they

72:42

tried to hide the truth maybe they

72:44

thought that it would go away I don't

72:46

know but it's definitely not a good look

72:49

now because of this and the fact that

72:51

the da went on record to tell the public

72:53

and more so potential

72:55

that every single witness that has been

72:57

named suspicious in this case is 100%

73:00

not involved in any way that there is no

73:02

investigation into Trooper Michael

73:04

Proctor and all of those claims were

73:06

unfounded and then for this to come out

73:08

I mean it's clear that it's misconduct

73:10

by the prosecution and Karen's defense

73:13

wants the DA's office thrown off this

73:15

case in February of 2024 Karen's trial

73:18

was pushed back to April 16th this was

73:21

after the US attorney's office sent over

73:23

3,000 pages of documents ments about

73:25

their investigation into the case the

73:27

defense said that the new information

73:29

quote appears to be exculpatory while

73:31

the prosecution said it was quote about

73:33

90% consistent with what was already

73:36

known but nevertheless the trial was

73:38

postponed however before this happened

73:41

the defense tried to get the indictment

73:42

thrown out which was denied however what

73:45

some people say is damning evidence was

73:47

included in the prosecution's response

73:49

to the defense's motion the prosecution

73:52

highlighted the text messages that Karen

73:53

sent John and also the voicemail that

73:55

she left on the night that he died in

73:57

the voicemail she was allegedly

73:59

screaming and saying John I hate

74:01

you and she also called him a pervert

74:04

and accused him of cheating while on a

74:06

trip to Aruba and when John's niece and

74:08

nephew who lived with him were

74:09

interviewed they said that JN and Karen

74:12

bickered constantly that there was

74:13

always kind of this sense of just like

74:15

turmoil in the relationship and in the

74:18

filings it says something very

74:20

interesting about Karen the man in

74:22

question is Brian Higgins Who police

74:24

said was friends with Karen and John and

74:27

was with them at both bars where they

74:29

had been drinking the night that John

74:31

died and inside the house that Karen

74:34

allegedly dropped John off to prosecutor

74:37

said that Karen was involved in a quote

74:40

romantic inang lement with Brian and

74:42

that two weeks before Jon's death Brian

74:45

went to Jon's house to watch a football

74:47

game and Karen walked him out afterwards

74:49

and then allegedly kissed him they also

74:52

revealed that text messages between

74:54

Brian Brian and Karen quote acknowledged

74:57

the kiss and were romantic in nature

74:59

though Brian declined an invitation to

75:01

visit Karen at her house that's a direct

75:04

quote so basically the prosecution

75:06

believes that this all played into her

75:08

motive to kill Jon after a night of

75:11

heavy drinking well Karen's defense had

75:13

a very interesting response about Brian

75:15

in court they said that the federal

75:18

probe into the investigation includes

75:20

phone calls which they believe paint a

75:22

clear picture of a conspiracy to frame

75:25

Aon those phone calls were from Brian

75:27

Albert who owned the home where John's

75:29

body was found also Brian Higgins Kevin

75:32

Albert Brian Albert's brother and the

75:34

former Canton police chief Kenneth

75:37

burkowitz they also said that Brian

75:39

Higgins was asked about this by the

75:41

Federal grand jury looking into the case

75:43

and that he denied any phone calls with

75:45

Brian but then when he was pressed

75:47

further about it and was also told that

75:49

they have proof that they did call each

75:50

other at 2:22 a.m. on the night that

75:52

John died he said that they must must

75:55

have butt dialed each other now when he

75:57

was first confronted Brian Higgins first

76:00

tried to claim that it had to have been

76:02

a butt dial um that term butt dial is

76:05

used by many of the Commonwealth's

76:07

witnesses to explain the many calls

76:10

between them and among them and I I've

76:12

never seen a case where there have been

76:13

so many butt dials to be frank uh but Mr

76:17

Higgins was already locked in he already

76:19

testified his phone was on the bedside

76:21

table his butt was in the bed the phone

76:24

was in the table

76:26

the two could not have met your honor

76:28

there was no possibility of a butt dial

76:31

and then Higgins admitted that and that

76:34

wasn't Mr Higgins leaving Brian Albert a

76:38

voicemail he also admitted under oath

76:39

that the total records would have

76:41

reflected a voicemail if they went to

76:44

voicemail he admitted that to call Brian

76:46

Albert back he would have had to First

76:49

reach for his phone then unlock it with

76:52

the passcode or face ID then then he

76:55

would have to press on Brian Albert's

76:57

number and that is exactly what he did

77:00

and he testified that that was what he

77:03

did he also testified that nobody from

77:05

the Commonwealth not Trooper Proctor not

77:07

Ada La no one has ever asked him about

77:10

that phone call from Brian Alberts to to

77:13

Higgins or the the return phone call

77:15

from Higgins to Albert lasting 22

77:17

seconds rather than get everyone's phone

77:20

records as this court knows the

77:21

Commonwealth has fought the defense at

77:23

every turn in our Quest to get the phone

77:25

records they've persuaded this court

77:27

that we were previously on a fishing

77:29

expedition to the extent the court once

77:32

thought otherwise it is clear this is no

77:34

longer a fishing Expedition we do not

77:37

have to go fishing to wonder anymore

77:40

whether calls were made we now know that

77:42

someone who had been in that house when

77:44

John O'Keefe arrived called the

77:47

homeowner at 2:22 in the morning 3 and

77:49

1/2 hours before Jon o Keefe's body was

77:51

found on the homeowner's lawn we learned

77:54

that neither party to that call ever

77:57

revealed to police investigators or

78:00

prosecutors that they connected by phone

78:03

in those early morning hours just like

78:05

Jennifer mccab never revealed that at

78:07

around the same time she was Googling

78:10

asking how long it took for someone to

78:12

die in the cold a search that the FBI

78:15

confirms happened at 2:27 in the morning

78:18

again about 3 and 1 half hours before

78:20

John O'Keefe's body was found now for

78:23

his part Brian Albert also first tried

78:26

to claim that his phone call to Brian

78:28

Higgins at 2:22 in the morning was a

78:30

butt dial he said that he was awake and

78:33

watching

78:35

TV but he was called back to the grand

78:38

jury to testify a second time the second

78:41

time Brian Albert changed his testimony

78:44

to say that at 2:22 in the morning he

78:47

and his wife were in bed in an intimate

78:50

situation he claimed that he had his

78:52

phone with him in the bed

78:55

so now he's claiming that it was during

78:58

that intimate situation with his wife

79:01

that he supposedly but dialed Brian

79:04

Higgins he had no explanation however

79:06

for how his phone picked up when Higgins

79:09

called him back 17 seconds later he had

79:12

no explanation for the 22 second phone

79:14

conversation that followed and it's

79:16

worth noting that Higgins testified he

79:19

never heard any intimate noises on the

79:21

other end of the line either Brian Al

79:24

but tried to maintain that he butt

79:26

dialed

79:27

Higgins but again that would mean that

79:30

his butt also answered the phone when

79:32

Higgins called back and it doesn't make

79:33

any sense both men denied talking to

79:36

each other despite being confronted with

79:38

that mountain of evidence by federal

79:40

prosecutors now why was this important

79:42

I'll tell you why because that is 5

79:45

minutes before Jennifer mccabes disputed

79:47

227 a.m. Google search of quote how long

79:51

to die in cold uh guys that feels very

79:56

very coincidental to me I don't like to

79:59

be a conspiracy theorist at least not on

80:01

the reg and if I am one I try not to

80:03

like publicly State my opinions but to

80:06

accidentally butt dial somebody while

80:09

somebody's having sex at 2:22 a.m. in

80:12

the morning which how how is it in your

80:14

butt like if you're having sex how is it

80:15

in your butt able to I don't know but

80:17

then to also have a Google search

80:19

happening just a couple minutes later of

80:21

how long to die in the cold which why is

80:22

somebody Googling that anyway which I

80:24

will say this too there was a typo in

80:26

her search instead of H W it which was

80:30

hos but when you look on your keyboard

80:32

on your phone the S is right below the W

80:34

so I think it's pretty safe to say she

80:36

was trying to Google how long to die in

80:38

the cold but the first question there

80:40

obviously is why is somebody Googling

80:42

that in the middle of the night or like

80:44

in the early morning hours but also now

80:46

that coupled with the fact that it was

80:48

just a couple minutes after this call

80:50

that allegedly happened during a butt

80:52

dial which was they had tried to deny

80:55

entirely before they were basically

80:56

caught in their lie uh it just isn't

80:59

smelling right and something we always

81:02

say is you know where there's smoke

81:03

there is fire and how how many

81:05

coincidences can really happen until you

81:08

can't explain it away and this just

81:10

feels a little gross to me now most

81:13

recently two hearings in this case had

81:16

the mother of all Bombshells so let's go

81:19

through them one was the fact that an

81:21

Accident Reconstructionist hired by the

81:23

FBI found that Jon's injuries did not

81:26

appear to be from a car strike the

81:29

federal

81:30

investigators hired independent of us we

81:32

had no idea an independent of the

81:34

Commonwealth hired a professional

81:37

Reconstructionist three

81:40

phds to look into exactly this this

81:43

issue did Karen weed's car did her SUV

81:48

make contact with joh O'Keefe and their

81:51

conclusion to a person was his injuries

81:56

were inconsistent with the damage on the

81:58

car the in the damage on the car was

82:02

inconsistent with having been made

82:04

having made contact with John O'Keefe's

82:06

body in other words the car didn't hit

82:08

him and he wasn't hit by the car period

82:12

full stop that's their independent

82:15

expert not ours not somebody on our

82:17

payroll like Mr wiffin or one of their

82:20

experts or Trooper Gino who's an arm of

82:24

the agent

82:25

this is an independent federal

82:26

government witness or series of

82:28

witnesses who say

82:29

unequivocally that car did not hit joh

82:32

O'Keefe and John O'Keefe was not hit by

82:35

that car also the fact that Trooper

82:38

Proctor is under federal investigation

82:40

Massachusetts State Police confirming

82:42

the lead investigator in the Karen Reed

82:44

murder case Trooper Michael Proctor is

82:46

under investigation for a potential

82:48

violation of Department policy while

82:50

they're not commenting on what may have

82:52

sparked this internal investigation and

82:54

they say Proctor remains on active duty

82:56

we know it came to light just one day

82:58

after a bombshell Hearing in the case

82:59

against Reed Reed's attorney alleged

83:01

Proctor never fully disclosed his

83:03

personal relationship with multiple

83:05

people involved in the case that

83:07

includes the Albert family who lived at

83:09

the home on the property where O'Keefe's

83:11

body was found in fact just days prior

83:13

to O'Keefe's death Proctor had allegedly

83:15

asked the Alberts to babysit his child

83:18

Michael Proctor is so connected to the

83:20

Alberts that he was entrusting them or

83:22

willing to entrust the Alberts to be

83:25

Caregivers for his toddler child text

83:28

messages from three days after O'Keefe's

83:30

death also allegedly show the Albert's

83:31

offered to S Proctor a thank you gift

83:33

quote when this is all over so now we

83:36

have the lead investigator from Mass

83:38

Massachusetts State Police literally

83:39

discussing the exchange of gifts between

83:42

the Albert family on the one hand and

83:44

the Proctor family on the other hand as

83:46

a thank you their words for helping the

83:49

Alberts out of a jam criminal defense

83:51

attorney bner Bellis says with Proctor's

83:53

ethics being called into into question

83:54

the entire case will face additional

83:56

scrutiny 2 years later to the day on

83:59

February 1st 2024 now let's fast forward

84:02

2 years later now Michael Proctor finds

84:04

himself on the witness stand in front of

84:06

a Federal grand jury that grand jury was

84:08

tasked with a singular commission and

84:11

that was investigating crimes of public

84:13

corruption by law enforcement in

84:14

relation to this case and he admitted to

84:17

an a a USA under very intense

84:20

questioning that not only does he know

84:22

the Alberts and does he socialize with

84:24

him does he drink with them does he go

84:26

to pool parties with them but he told

84:29

his partner Yuri bunik all of this

84:32

before Yuri bunck testified at the Grand

84:35

Jury and before he and bunck actually

84:38

interviewed Chris Albert why does that

84:41

mean something why does that mean

84:43

something to the court and to this

84:44

argument because when Yuri bunck

84:47

testified before the state court grand

84:49

jury he testified that quote following

84:52

formal introductions in quote

84:55

Julie Albert and Chris Albert provided

84:57

their phone

84:58

numbers following formal introductions

85:01

that was a clear deceit on the grand

85:05

jurors Yuri bunck knew as did Michael

85:08

Proctor they didn't need formal

85:10

introductions Michael Proctor was

85:12

considering having Julie Albert babysit

85:14

his kid under additional intense

85:17

questioning by the assistant United

85:18

States Attorney Proctor was caught in

85:20

his own web of Deceit and testified as

85:23

follows quote

85:24

so this is the a USA talking are asking

85:27

the question so obviously we're asking

85:29

questions about your relationship with

85:31

Julie Albert with Chris Albert and with

85:33

Colin Albert do you understand that

85:35

answer yes sir question and you're

85:38

saying that you're minimizing quote

85:40

minimizing your relationship to the

85:43

grand jury correct answer yes he finally

85:48

under the scrutiny of a Federal grand

85:51

jury admitted that he had been lying

85:53

about his relationship to the Alberts

85:55

which means he lied to the grand jury

85:58

which means that evidence was distorted

86:00

in front of the grand jury Trier

86:02

Proctor's mother refers to the Albert

86:04

family as the Proctor's second family so

86:08

one might actually ask Mr morisy who's

86:11

actually lying in this case is it us we

86:14

just presented the court with factual

86:16

information that was procured off of

86:18

social media that can't it's

86:20

unassailable it cannot be assailed then

86:23

that the tail white fragment have three

86:25

sources of DNA including J there is uh

86:29

DNA report uh in relation to the tail

86:31

light of the defendant's vehicle uh

86:33

there are uh three possible contributors

86:35

to that DNA mixture one is uh positively

86:38

identified as that of the victim John

86:40

O'Keefe uh two others are unknown

86:43

there's been a rampant uh sort of

86:45

speculation uh accusations levied

86:47

against uh these particular Troopers in

86:49

regard to um contaminating evidence or

86:53

planting evidence and things of that

86:54

nature and that Jennifer McCabe was

86:57

photographed outside of Trooper

86:58

Proctor's house for a quote special

87:01

meeting that was never disclosed to the

87:03

police and this happened on September

87:05

25th 2023 we find out during the

87:08

pendency of this case on September 25th

87:12

2023 that one of those family members

87:14

Jennifer mccab who's the subject uh of

87:18

great interest in this case and a

87:20

primary person of interest in this case

87:22

is invited to Trooper Proctor's personal

87:24

home for some sort of offthe books

87:27

meeting do we know about this meeting

87:29

because Trooper Proctor upon learning

87:32

this that Jennifer mccab was coming to

87:34

his house ran back to the office and

87:36

filed a police report a supplemental

87:39

report explaining this meeting this off

87:41

the books meeting um no he never

87:44

disclosed it we found out about this

87:46

because a a concerned citizen happened

87:48

to photograph Jennifer McCabe's car

87:51

parked outside Michael and Elizabeth

87:52

Proctor's personal res

87:54

in the evening after

87:57

hours and the best that that Council for

88:01

uh Elizabeth Proctor can muster in terms

88:04

of an argument is to say well you know

88:06

what your honor maybe he wasn't

88:09

home maybe or maybe

88:13

not the suspicious part is Trooper

88:15

Proctor isn't

88:16

saying and there's nothing in Elizabeth

88:19

Proctor's motion to suggest that he

88:21

wasn't home certainly his car was there

88:24

Elizabeth Proctor's car was there and

88:25

Jennifer McCabe's car was there was

88:27

Trooper Proctor home I guess I would

88:29

answer that by answering by asking the

88:31

question does it matter if Trooper

88:34

Proctor was home they've now admitted

88:36

that Jennifer McCabe a central character

88:38

in the middle of this investigation in

88:40

the middle of this crime was secretly

88:43

meeting and or socializing with the lead

88:45

investigator and or his wife in the

88:49

living room of their home and that your

88:51

honor is a problem and it shows more

88:54

than a professional connection it shows

88:56

a personal connection and according to

88:58

the Proctor to uh the Proctor family's

89:01

own Council Elizabeth Proctor's Council

89:03

the subject matter of that meeting was

89:06

commiserating about this case they

89:08

weren't talking about sports they

89:10

weren't talking about the weather they

89:12

were meeting about this

89:14

case so how does that not show a bias

89:18

and how does that not implicate Karen

89:20

Reed's constitutional rights to this

89:23

information

89:25

and to this day the Commonwealth has yet

89:27

to concede what obviously is

89:31

now sort of front page news that there

89:34

is in fact a personal relationship

89:36

between the Proctors and their second

89:37

family the Albert mccab family all while

89:40

the prosecution has said that none of

89:42

these people knew each other none of

89:44

them socialized together and the entire

89:46

notion of a connection between the

89:48

Alberts the mccabes and Trooper Proctor

89:51

was not true in any way troa proa had no

89:56

close personal relationship with any of

89:58

the parties involved in the

90:00

investigation and had no conflict I mean

90:03

once again guys it's just not smelling

90:05

right so Karen's defense filed a motion

90:08

for the judge to dismiss the case again

90:10

but the judge denied their request and

90:12

as of right now the trial is scheduled

90:15

to move forward on April 16th 2024 so

90:18

what do you guys think about this case

90:20

and I'm actually going to put a poll

90:22

over on Spotify so if you're listening

90:23

to this on Spotify go answer there

90:25

otherwise let me know in the review

90:26

section over on Apple podcast but do you

90:29

believe that Karen is guilty of hitting

90:31

Jon on purpose do you think that it was

90:33

an accident do you think that she

90:35

purposely left him for dead in the snow

90:37

then after accidentally hitting him or

90:40

do you believe the defense do you think

90:42

that the Google search is a Smoking Gun

90:44

or better yet when was the last time

90:47

somebody who was accused of murdering a

90:49

police officer had crowds of people

90:51

cheering in support of them being

90:53

innocent outside of a courthouse I mean

90:56

the only time we really see things like

90:58

that is when it's a celebrity on trial

91:00

but the fact that she's on trial for

91:02

murder and murder of a police officer no

91:04

less and she has so many supporters

91:07

outside of the courthouse for every

91:08

single court appearance I don't know

91:11

does that indicate something this case

91:13

is just insane all right guys and don't

91:15
