pandemonium special moments special

memories yeah better than that fake

his sale really lit up the game that was

equally as important as the goal this is

instinctive sometimes the hand you get

on it is enough sometimes it's not yeah

i've got to say

my heart sank when i chilly school and

for them it'd have been harsh to lose it

from there if that goal counted as soon

as the final whistle went it was just

such an incredible feeling i'll never

forget

there's no party without jamie vardy

i didn't know that i was having to do

media you boys pulling me away again fa

cup winner championed you know another

trophy you know what a what a feeling

what a moment

wolves billy wright and leicester's

norman plummer hit the old midland

finalists onto the wembley turf for

football's game of the year the second

division boys are giving more than they

get when fate deals them a sudden bitter

blow pie heads

and it's it

for leicester princess elizabeth the

triumphant wolverhampton team with

football's most coveted honor

there's a magic all of its own about the

cup final leicester city on the left in

fact suits and league champions

tottenham hotspur

and there it was the match with

spurs have won the cup two nil

it's leicester city who have won through

to the final by sheer teamwork against

manchester united that galaxy of stars

it's all over the end of an exciting

very sporting game it's the fulfillment

of an english footballer's ambition the

cup and a cup medal

on south at wembley cup fever ran high

too as leicester and manchester city

made their appearance in the past arena

a match which leicester set in motion

they played in three previous finals but

had never been the victory

that was it manchester city had won the

cup

growing up what memories do you have of

the fa cup what does the fa cup mean to

you well i think for a british coach we

like you say when we grew up in the

times we didn't have lots of

sporting channels on the telly it was

bbc1 or atv and loved the build up to it

loved seeing

the players and talking about previous

games

and then obviously

watching the games themselves

well my first memory was shifter

wednesday against arsenal in the final

got took out school saying a dentist

appointment ended up at wembley so

good day all round remembered to go into

the fa cup final in in 2000 it was

chelsea versus aston villa i was a

mascot at the game such a big occasion

the atmosphere was fantastic and there

was my earliest memories of the fa cup

it was always a dream to lift it um

i have many memories of traveling down

to wembley to watch my dad play

many memories of lifting the trophy i've

had the trophy in my house

always had a belief always had some kind

of uh

yeah

some kind of feeling that i'd win it

myself it's the fact that every single

team in the country enters it at some

point

so

on any given day anyone anyone can win

it wigan won it didn't they i mean

watching that game when you look at them

getting a win like that you think anyone

can win it and one day hopefully i'll be

there being one of them celebrating it

and they're out it's one of the things

you don't think that you're you're ever

gonna

be in the final but like i said you can

always always dream about it

welcome to wembley one of football's

most iconic stadia originally built to

hold the nation's most important match

the emirates fa cup final a competition

that spawned a global cultural

phenomenon and one that's remained true

to its traditions this is the fa cup

final chelsea versus leicester city when

you woke up on the morning of the game

did you feel any different to a normal

match day personally i didn't feel

different

i was i was really focused on the game

and

i think that's the best thing you can do

but otherwise you just um

you just get you get lost in the

build up and in everything that's going

around the game i got a call from the

the manager

morning of the game

asking you know um how am i

um he wants me to go on the bench will i

be okay and i think regardless i just

wanted one final game like a farewell

game say bye to the fans

just something to you know i didn't want

to

finish my career um i haven't played the

game in december and that's my that was

it

and you know i suppose life has a weird

way of turning out the big difference

was obviously fans fans were back into

the stadium we had 4 000 for the

semi-final uh which which

felt like a lot more even though it was

in a 90 000 seat yeah but

from going from having

silence in for a year and a half in

games to

knowing that there'd be

20 000 plus fans that just added to the

to the adrenaline kick to the to the

excitement it was only 6 000. wow okay i

thought i actually thought it was 20

000. that's how loud everyone was yeah

okay i didn't know that yeah i'm pretty

sure there was more than that

yeah i just felt great to have

supporters there but

from from the warm-up you could hear the

and uh the leicester city supporters and

you sense what it really meant to them

on the day we always said getting the

fans back is

it's what makes what makes the

footballing and the atmosphere

we all know it wasn't the same when it

was behind closed doors so to have the

fans there cheering you on

constantly

giving you that extra bit of energy

trying to build a 12th man it it really

gives you that that extra incentive i

think we were really important to them

and i think it must have meant a lot to

them like a lot of leicester players i

think like madders said it as well he

was just like it was difficult playing

with no fans so for the first game to be

back and to have

like that that fixture to get have your

fans back for the first time was must

have been amazing i remember being in

the concourse before the game and i

heard abide with me came on

and i just ran as fast as i could to my

seat because that was the one thing that

like

for me it's like growing up watching fa

cup finals in the 90s and stuff i always

thought

i really want to hear abide with me and

you know hear the national anthem watch

the teams come out

there's always a feeling in the

background of this is this is special

but you kind of just do go into

professional mode boring professional

mode of of

sticking to your routines not changing

things too much uh i think the only

thing that kind of changes was a little

bit of the timing we went out a little

bit early and came in a little bit

earlier because you have have to do all

the uh the pre-match stuff with uh with

the royals and and things like you gotta

do the lineup and

and all those things so uh so that was

kind of the only thing that changed for

me i just wanted to take it as another

game because

i didn't want to put too much pressure

on myself i

in general keep things to myself so even

if i'm playing my dad will text me every

every day before a game wherever i'm

playing or it lasts me in the week

and i don't know i don't know if i'm

playing yet but he always wants to know

but other than that i don't really tell

anyone else until the team sheets come

out and

then it's ready to go and we've got to

go and

uh

perform i was never good enough to play

and of course i believe when i played in

the early rounds of of qualification and

uh

i think it was about the second round as

a player something would have been the

most i would have got to but

but of course the next best thing to

play in is managing and

i went close with liverpool we um we

lost in the semi-final

at wembley so um

that was the closest i'd i'd go but uh

but yeah to go that one step and be be

there with an opportunity

to win was was

yeah it was it was very motivating well

i was saying to to the lads before the

game you know i've been playing for for

18 years i've never got to a final

before so you you never know if you're

going to get that chance again so you

have to take it you have to seize its

opportunity and you have to enjoy it and

the only way you enjoy it is by doing

the right things and giving everything

so that when the final whistle does go

you've got no regrets and that that for

me would have been the worst thing if we

if if we'd come off that pitch

regretting something which uh which we

didn't

and here comes the fa cup

out onto the pitch

the fireworks have started behind it

and here we go

when you're growing up as a kid you're

watching all of this on the tv and it's

a special

moment when you up there and you sort of

taken it in you you are actually part of

history you know you're there as a

spectator but it is the fa cup and it's

beamed around the world everybody's

watching it everybody knows about it so

it was just like taking it in that we're

actually here

well this date this time 5 15.

saturday may the 15th has been etched in

every leicester city fans

memory since the semi-final connection

gets the 140th fa cup final underway

finals can go very fast i didn't want to

just feel as if the game had passed us

by and not wait on the game so it was

important for us to be really proactive

and the games that's always how i asked

the teams to play they couldn't impose

the style and go and play with no fear

in terms of our mindset we started

with a real

commitment and a real mentality that we

were going to

really

look to be in the game

and make sure they felt that we could

get against them as well

sitting on the bench arms i'm sure it's

probably the same for the fans you know

everyone's a bit nervous they want to

want to win um but

like you said there's a bit cagey you

know

chelsea came close a couple times with

some of the attacks

now i'm just going to cut you off

because johnny evans

i think

is out of the cup final and leicester

are going to have to make a change and

this

is a huge bloke if we lost johnny early

doors you know you don't want to be

having to use the substitute that early

but we got through that and uh i thought

we we had good control in the first half

particularly

i remember the first half being

pretty tight and not too many chances

which obviously you kind of expect from

a game of that magnitude anyway and it

always felt like one of those games

where a bit of quality or

a mistake might win it we were under the

crush of it in the first half there's

quite a lot of pressure on us because i

remember i was blowing after about 10

minutes and i was thinking this pitch is

massive

uh well wembley is a big pitch itself

and then when chelsea are popping it

around the pitch it's just

it's hard to hard to get near the ball

but

we dug deep throughout that first half

and

we came in at half time no no we knew

after that we had a chance and if we get

a chance to score uh hopefully we can

take it and tell you what you already

took it

this is the moment yes

yeah it was um i think it was just a

normal moment where we

was up and down and and then we get the

ball back and luke gives me

a really good pass for me to yeah

to

to do what i did

i can't really explain what happened but

um i just saw space and and time

yeah i decided to take the shot and it

went perfectly in

and then from there it was uh yeah it

was really nice uh celebrating with the

fans again that was a very special

moment so um and then in the replay

yeah it gets better and better so uh

yeah the angle from

from behind is

is the most beautiful i think when you

see that ball going in top bins it's

really nice

an absolute incredible strike and i said

afterwards it was a strike to win any

game

and you just seen the supporters and you

see the joy that they had in it was uh

was incredible so that was uh yeah a

wonderful strike i think i was just to

the left of him

it's one of them he'd when he's it you

kind of

you have an inkling that it's

it's not going to be stopped

and i mean when you watch the replays as

well from

from behind you know as soon as it's

left his foot it's in

so unbelievable finish

and i always see that clip where

sharky's running off

and he's just like this

and you just think

he's just what he's thinking to himself

how has he done that

it's one of the most iconic goals in an

fa cup final ever i think i was slightly

to the side so when i seen him hit it

um

i couldn't tell if it was on target so

obviously i i seen the net bulge and

um obviously after that can't really

remember a lot of the celebration but a

split second where it went quiet and it

just went mayhem two rows behind were on

our seat people were just jumping and it

was just limbs everywhere tillerman's

goal was the goal that you always score

as a schoolboy when you're playing in an

fa cup final you know it was the dream

goal and to see it

there happen it was like

pinch me we're beating chelsea

everything just goes in a split second

it's just me and my confidence and

i hit it perfectly so um so yeah i was

really happy

you probably wouldn't want it to to fall

to anyone else at that moment in time i

was more amazed that luke thomas got an

assist to be fair i mean all he did was

block the ball and

three hard pass and he gets an assist

it's embarrassing i didn't really dare

to celebrate it because that was

obviously in the first

phase of var where they were giving

mad decisions on on all sorts of things

so i was slightly concerned that that

something might have been given there so

i didn't really get a chance to

celebrate it we still knew we had 20 odd

minutes hold out and

we knew they were going to pile the

pressure on so it was about

keeping our cool after we scored that

goal obviously you've got to celebrate

it like we did

um

but then when you're back in a year and

off you've got to get your focus back on

the game

cuts it back to kante kante thinks about

crossing tinks his way into the box now

he does stand it up towards the far post

and it's headed off the post i think did

casper schmeichel make a save there i

think casper schmeichel has come up with

a very very big save to keep leicester

one nil up in the fa cup final it's one

of them

you know you're gonna collide with the

post so you just gotta try and get

something on it and and hope that that

that the rebound or the ricochet doesn't

fall to one of them chili obviously

comes in there late and and we we all

know how good he is in the air um

and you just try and rely on instinct

and and i managed to get an extra step

off and uh

and just yeah just get a finger to it

these are moments you haven't football

no matter how dominant you are or no

matter how

good you are in the game you you have to

be ready for these pressure moments he

has that of capability doesn't it

michael to just really when it matters

just really really be like that warrior

for us and he was just

unbelievable that day like everyone

everyone in the whole entire stadium

thought that one was going in

as soon as mason mount hit that i

thought that's going in

and i looked around and casper's came

out of nowhere to produce an

unbelievable save he's unsighted as well

so he has to react super late and he's

got such a strong under onto the ball

yeah it's an incredible save that i

remember

putting my arms wide to say okay no

problem but

it was a problem thank you casper it was

a very important moment yeah this is

more of an instinctive one where you

just react and uh sometimes the hand you

get on it is enough sometimes it's not

this is what you do years and years of

repetition and training for that that's

uh

that's these kind of moments i presented

the boys

a few months back with uh

two lighters

uh

and then the metaphor was really a bit

they both lit up wembley on the day

and it was something that i felt that

normally sometimes that can go to the

the guy who scores the goal and i wanted

him to have a keepsake from me

personally but i couldn't do that

without giving casper the same because

his save really lit up the game as well

defining moments that wins you the cup

the goal special goal

and the save

incredible save in that moment i i

personally never think this is our day i

always think there's going to be one

more you're going to have to do one more

thing

well disallowed goal

well

well first of all um i was thinking

what was happening you look at my face

i'm like no

and to be honest at this point i'm

thinking right it's gonna be extra time

i was like i don't know if i've got 30

minutes in me to be honest chelsea

dink it forward again and chill well

it's around the back and it's been

bundled in and the goal has been given

and ben chillwell

ben chilwell is often celebrating and

the leicester city graduate has broken

fox's hearts here

yeah i've got to say honestly my heart

sank whenever chile's goal had went in

because we

we had defended so well up until that

moment and it was like two boxes but one

boxer was sort of on the ropes and that

was us so

when that goal initially went in it was

just you know

all like a bubble of burst felt like the

play-off at watford the playoff at

cardiff and every other kick in the

teeth you've had as a football fan and

this isn't you know looking for sympathy

we've had some amazing moments but every

club has those those ups and downs and

it felt like everything just in one

sucker punch i remember when they'd

scored one obviously it would have been

the next player you're disappointed with

it in the last minute you're

disappointed and i remember thinking if

this goes to extra time we're going to

lose because they've got the momentum

but there was maybe like a minute gap

and obviously the longer it goes on you

start to think hang on you know there

might be something wrong with it i've

seen one replay and it's one of those

that is tight i don't know if there's an

official check yet imagine it i think

it's cancelled

chelsea

think they've scored lester desperately

hoped for var var check for possible

offside

and the goal is being disallowed

the chair that went for for the for the

gold not to forgive him was

as loud and when you hit it back and you

hear some of the recordings of it it was

it was fantastic really you know in that

moment i don't think there's no players

that actually thought var could come in

and the goal could be you know not

counted

i didn't even think about vr to be

honest

i thought oh that's a goal and it's

going to be long

we were already really tired

i was even asking for hand balls i'm not

sure why

it's a tight one

very tight but

the end of the day got to to the right

decision

at one nil

and with their their quality in their

level that they have chelsea you're just

you just know that they can turn the

game in a split second

i was just thinking let's get us through

this um honestly after the vr call

that's when i was asking the the referee

how long we had left

after that moment i think we tried to to

push a little bit more

to get a bit after them to not sink too

deep but i don't know i was just

watching

michael oliver for about two minutes

when that final whistle went it was uh

yeah it was madness

so as soon as the final whistle went

i was um

it was just sheer

elation and

pride for the players for the staff top

and and for myself and my family it was

just for everyone it was just such a

such an incredible feeling i'll never

forget it straight away you know i knew

you know fa cup winner champions you

know another trophy you know what what a

feeling what a moment

yeah everyone starts jumping around um

players are down on the knees you know i

see a few tears on some of the players

you're going to get more silverware and

created history once again

for leicester city and

you've achieved something really special

it was ecstatic with the with the

emotions but they're all over the place

i don't think you really

know exactly what to do at that moment

in time i was just laid

face down in the grass when the whistle

went it was just

you know you can see from like the

player's reaction the fans reaction is

kind of exactly the same you know like

dropping to their knees just

tears of of happiness and you know you

just you just can't believe that has

finally happened really so

it's a feeling that i can kind of still

remember that that that

was so iconic and sort of my memory that

i can still remember that feeling of

happiness realizing you've actually won

it and to get

our name engraved on a cop like the fa

cup it's just uh

every every person's dream to be there i

think everyone in the stand that
