🏠 Roof Construction and Farm Life Update
The video starts with a recap of the challenging hip rafter installation and the progress made towards completing the back wall of the addition. The rafter system is detailed, with two Rafters extending from the ridge beam to different floors and the framing of the third-level loft. The construction team is optimistic about moving in by Christmas. The farm is also bustling with new life, including the birth of a baby donkey named Samy. The focus then shifts to sheathing the exterior, cutting compound angles for the remaining rafters, and securing them to the valley rafter. The process of cutting and installing the rafters is described, emphasizing the importance of precision and mathematical calculations over luck. The video ends with a discussion about the upcoming tasks, including cutting off overhanging rafter tails and sheathing the roof line.
🔨 Sheathing and Nutritional Sponsorship
The second paragraph discusses the sheathing process, emphasizing safety and efficiency. The team decides to wait for a machine to assist with higher sheathing tasks. The focus then shifts to cutting out windows, with a preference for using a saw from the inside to avoid the mess and safety risks associated with a router. The paragraph also includes a humorous interaction about measuring for sheathing, highlighting the importance of accurate measurements. Additionally, the video features a sponsorship from ag1, a nutritional supplement that supports whole-body health and recovery, particularly beneficial for the physically demanding work on the house build and farm. The sponsorship provides a one-year supply of vitamin D3 K2 and five ag1 travel packs with the first subscription.

Transcripts
previously we tackled the hip rafter
install which has been the most
difficult combination of angles so far
we've officially got one left to go and
at this rate I think we just might be
moved in by Christmas the next step in
the build was completing the back wall
of the addition these two Rafters run
from the ridge beam and the one side
comes and ties into the wall in the
second floor the other one goes straight
down to the first floor and ties in the
third level loft is completely framed we
worked towards sheathing the exterior
and new life was born on our farm
Springtime comes a ton of rain a ton of
lambs and this year our very first baby
donkey name
Samy they have not agreed on that yet
nope so how many Dons that make guys
eight eight
[Music]
this portion is almost buttoned up once
you get a few more Raptors down you
think got to jump back and do another
Valley Raptor from here to come back
down to there and tie in this roof line
once that's done continue on that way
get that roof line buttoned up we're
going to get started today by tying the
three remaining Rafters into the valley
rafter on one side of the house and then
on the opposite side of the house we
have a whole bunch of over hanging
rafter tails that still need to get cut
off once that's done this entire portion
of the roof line is done and just
waiting to be sheathed this cut a
compound cut it's uh 57 by 28° at an
angle and another cut up top is also 57°
but as it goes down the lengths get
longer so once I figure this first and
second one out I should be able to
figure the rest out as we go down I have
two boards that I cut need in both do as
my mockup I'm going to attach one up at
the rafter at the LVL I'm going to
attach one at the hip rafter once
they're installed I can measure in
between get the full length of that
board and have one board for that cut 72
in
exactly let's see if this works or not
let's give it a shot hope so it's going
to set the tone for the day are we going
to get lucky no such thing as luck girl
it's all math every time I do math it's
luck I the
measuring that was
good yeah not bad at all actually Let's
uh let's l in

be moved in by Christmas maybe we'll see
how it
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
goes perfect it perfect yeah yes it is
so good now the Raptors are cut and
they're installed to the valley Raptor
I'm going to go up top where the LVL
comes across where the Raptors came down
to the valley Raptor I'm going to take
my angle bracket and attach it to the
LVL I'm going to use 3in lag bolts into
the LVL and also 3in lag bolts that go
through the Raptor it's going to join
both the Raptors that got spliced and
hold them together nice and
tight I to hold back before I
[Music]
knew Josh is going through and cutting
off all of the overhanging rafter tails
on both sides of the house on the boy
side of the house which sits over top of
the safe room they're going to have a
completely different type of roof than
the rest of the house theirs is going to
resemble the shed style roof over top of
the kitchen Dormer and tie directly into
the LVL on Ellie's Loft

[Music]
1/2 throw it up we have two small
sections of sheathing that still need to
be installed on the back side of the
house so before we jump to anything else
we want to go ahead and get those
buttoned up this is going to be just
about as far as we can safely and
comfortably go height wise with the
sheathing we would rather just go ahead
and wait until a machine gets here
before we go any higher so we'll
probably just do the rest of the
sheathing on the back side of the house
at the same time that we're doing the
roof
[Music]
look so much better yeah all I do is now
I cut out the
windows you think yeah typically I take
my router and go around the windows and
take out all the sheathing but since
it's so high in the air I decided to use
my sawo the 12-in blade from the inside
and cut it out it's going to be easier
safer and faster and plus with the
router it just shoots that stuff all
over me and I come out and covered in
sawdust this way go today
[Music]
you want to spin this over so your top
Corner goes up I'll go ready yep Ready
spin it girl you got it you got it don't
drop
on I got to go
under am I on that yeah you're Clos
enough
on good yeah W pretty good hey oh no
what did we even
measure that's your job you trust me to
measure right you're measuring the width
no you got to measure down here to where
it hit that wall and stop that's the
same thing as right here 8 ft no 7t no
91 in seven s and 3/4
[Laughter]
what all get it up real quick and call
it all right do the same thing we're
roll it over okay on Mark get back down
[Music]

perfect
timing they're waiting for you Uncle
Carter to the
rescue babies are to work
uh-huh today we're officially tyed in
the addition into the existing portion
of the A-frame so how it's going to work
is we're going to have a wall that's
going to be built on top of the A-frame
roof that comes all the way up and ties
both buildings together to make it one
so we have the metal roof cut off behind
us now the next step is for us to get a
2x6 down on the roof those going to
overhang just a bit we're going to have
it overhang 5 and 1/2 in we're going to
come across this way have studs going
down this is going to be like the bottom
plate we're going to tie in together
[Music]
coming through
[Music]
[Music]
over
here right at the edge of the board yeah
96 58 that's right okay cool on the
first floor we're going to frame up the
walls with 2x sixes to the bottom plate
and that top plate when get to the
second floor it's going to be a little
bit different this is where the rafter
comes in it ties into that little knee
wall and goes up so the wall going up to
the ridge beam it's at a 57 angle so
it's roughly like a 18 12 pitch roof we
need to get that rafter up so we can
follow the rafter line with the studs
for that wall going all the way up and
it's hanging on the side of the house so
it's going to be a little difficult a
little nerve-wracking but a ladder maybe
a rope get in
place that's crown that up
[Music]
I'm going over okay check it
out going down good mine's on
ledge
good need you push this thing up in the
air higher
[Music]
we're in good shape now we got to do is
put another one right next to it lagging
together and then we start building the
wall from the bottom plate up to the uh
Raptors itself and get a wall there that
wasn't bad no it's easy no very easy all
right good Lo them together we're good
Perfect Dude Looks good all
[Music]
33
[Music]
34 hey Dad the fencing is down on the
north side of the pasture how bad is it
it's bad completely crushed by a
tree uh 2 by 12 anyways looks like it's
fence fixing instead yes it is GRA
[Music]
cha I think that Dr oh it's big really
big with all that rain it was a matter
of time before something came down oh
yeah definitely did you guys check the
rest with the fence line I think there's
another spot that's down okay
at least you caught it before the cows
did oh yeah
definitely so when that tree fell that
part of the fence it got yanked out and
now it's open that gold trees fell oh
yeah wow strong winds oh yeah wow r that
one in half we have a couple spots we
got to fix with the fence line we have
one down there where it spliced onto the
fence post it probably pulled off when
that tree right here fell on top of that
so the first thing we to tackle is
taking care of this tree getting this
fence back up up and then going down
that way and getting that bolted back
onto the
[Music]
[Music]
fence ready two one go
go way there we go one good
[Music]
looks like we should have brought some
apples down oh
yeah where's Rosie Rosy's around here
somewhere there she is there's
Rosie kick it got hair
cutter pour it to
me there's not much there at all it's
like it's that's crazy
man I'm going to try to pull as tight as
I can and just twist together now and
hope for the best we going to come back
get a piece of fence kind to come down
through here replace this portion
probably or maybe put a post in here
whatever we'll figure it out as long as
it gets us through the night yeah we'll
get through the night without a problem
hey Carter push the fence post to me
please push you get it get we have extra
fencing down here will this help
temporarily I always knew this was going
to come in handy one day that's why I
left it down here and didn't haul it
back up to the house you're wild you're
straight up
wild I'm I'm going to cut it and and
wrap it in spices my spice is back with
the scrap piece of fencing that Aaron
has ly around here it's not cuz she
didn't put it away very resourceful
person right
honey right of course
Josh I did put it away on the other side
of the fence there you go girl
