[Music]

00:41

hello and welcome to uh review today

00:46

we're going to talk about Star Wars a

00:49

topic we've been avoiding talking about

00:53

for five to seven years

00:56

now and it never goes away you know that

00:59

me

01:01

uh somehow Palpatine has returned do you

01:04

know that yes I know that yes I I I I

01:07

kept seeing things like somehow

01:09

something has returned right it's a you

01:12

know this Jay it's a meme right yeah and

01:16

I saw then I saw GIF with Oscar Isaac as

01:21

Po damaran and he said and it had a

01:24

quote somehow Palpatine has returned and

01:26

I'm like what is that

01:27

from and then I suddenly remember that

01:33

Star Wars part nine revenge of

01:37

Skywalkers had Palpatine in it yeah yeah

01:40

I'm like oh that's what that means did

01:42

he actually say somehow Palpatine has

01:44

returned you don't and then I was like

01:46

Palpatine returned in that oh yeah it's

01:48

in the opening crawl all I remember is

01:50

they were riding horses over the the

01:52

outside of a star destroyer that's all I

01:55

remember Andor is very refreshing

01:57

compared to that okay let's talk about

01:59

Andor we're to talk about Andor and

02:00

we're here because um I I was like I I

02:05

want to watch a new show I haven't

02:07

watched yeah um I'm going to start

02:09

something new and then I kept seeing

02:11

like uh uh people saying Andor was good

02:14

so I was like okay I'll give it a shot

02:16

I'll watch Andor for the record for

02:18

somebody who just like stumbles upon

02:20

this video like 5 years after we've

02:22

released it we have now made this what

02:25

like a year after Andor released how

02:27

long ago did Andor actually come out I

02:29

don't I I know a

02:32

Ahsoka is a thing um that came out

02:35

somewhat recently yeah uh was this

02:37

before or after it be

02:40

W

02:42

before I I don't know yeah I honestly I

02:45

don't know we watched Obi-Wan we talked

02:47

about

02:50

[Music]

02:54

that and everyone was like if you want

02:56

to watch something that's Star Wars but

02:58

not Star Wars at all all watch Andor I'm

03:01

like what does that mean it's is that

03:04

good it's it's kind of right it's more

03:08

it's not I don't know that it's say it's

03:09

not Star Wars at all it's more just

03:12

they're finally expanding upon the world

03:15

of Star Wars which if you're going to

03:17

make a a Immortal franchise that will

03:20

never die and you're going to keep

03:21

pumping out installments this is the

03:23

kind of World building Disney should

03:25

have been doing 10 years ago I was going

03:27

to say this is the World building that

03:29

the prequels should have been yeah um

03:32

but I don't think George Lucas is smart

03:34

enough to write dialogue this good in a

03:37

darken screening room George Lucas is

03:39

using a laser pointer to show the 45

03:42

computer animators who are working on

03:44

his new Star Wars movie just how he

03:47

wants a big battle scene to look um I I

03:50

I liked Andor a lot and I'm I'm really I

03:54

really wanted to get your opinion and to

03:56

talk to you about it because the Star

03:59

Wars

04:00

Enigma is is fascinating to me now the

04:03

sheer

04:05

inconsistency of the shows and movies in

04:08

terms of of target audience and quality

04:12

level is is like

04:19

astounding I found a website that listed

04:22

all the Star Wars products not including

04:26

books comics and video games yeah uh in

04:29

Chron chronological order chronological

04:31

order okay it starts off with the young

04:35

Jedi Adventures a show for babies yeah

04:38

followed by The Phantom

04:40

Menace so I guess young Jedi Adventures

04:43

chronologically would be when Jedi were

04:47

were there Jedi in The Phantom Menace

04:49

yeah yeah yeah there were Jedi in The

04:51

Phantom Menace yes Jedi Adventures would

04:54

be young Jedi the probably younglings

04:56

running around with lightsabers I don't

04:58

know it's but it's for babies

05:00

The Phantom Menace I don't know if the

05:02

phantom menace was after they all got

05:03

killed off or not that's the Revenge of

05:05

the Sith yes that's Revenge of the Sith

05:07

there's three trilogies now it's hard to

05:08

keep track of this um attack of the

05:10

Clones follows Phantom Menace then in

05:13

between um that is the Clone Wars the

05:17

movie then the Clone War Ser movie yeah

05:20

then the yeah then the series then

05:22

Revenge of the Sith then we go to the

05:24

bad

05:25

batch which is an a CGI animated series

05:28

I don't know if it's for kids or

05:30

grown-ups I I assume it's for next is

05:33

solo the Solo movie followed by the

05:36

Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show then we're back

05:39

to kids with Rebels then Andor followed

05:42

by Rogue one uhhuh well yeah and uh

05:44

Andor season two I think will be

05:46

squeezed in between these two it would

05:48

have to be it's certainly not taking

05:50

place after Rogue one right yeah I me it

05:53

might make for an interesting series if

05:55

it's just like if it's just like you

05:57

know like 10 hours it's just a shot of

05:59

like a smoldering ing corpse pile of

06:01

dust pile of dust floating in space

06:04

Andor floats in

06:06

space it's just the description for

06:08

every episode andor's corpse floats in

06:10

space andor's ashes get uh condensed

06:14

into a kyber crystal and he gets he gets

06:18

put inside of a lightsaber now does his

06:20

soul possess the lightsaber a socks yeah

06:23

yeah and it ends up on young Jedi

06:25

Adventures at some point and the babies

06:27

have

06:28

it oh this sucks I just want to be

06:33

dead Okay Rogan is followed by a New

06:35

Hope followed by Empire followed by Jedi

06:38

then the

06:39

Mandalorian then the book of Boba Fett

06:42

uh and I don't know how the book of Boba

06:43

Fett happens after Return of the Jedi

06:45

cuz Boba Fett fell into the sarlac pit

06:48

monster and got eaten I'm sure there's

06:51

an explanation he climbs out for how he

06:53

climbs out he gains 70 lbs while

06:57

floating around in that belly I I had to

07:00

eat all of its stomach contents he had

07:03

to eat his way out okay okay okay and he

07:07

has developed a taste for sarlac meat I

07:09

want to say I've heard from sources that

07:12

in the Mandalorian we see Boba Fett

07:14

climb out of the sarlac pit monster so

07:17

that he could be in the book of Boba

07:18

Fett whatever then uh after the book of

07:21

Boba Fett is a a

07:26

aoka so then after that is resistance

07:30

I don't know what that is that's

07:32

literally the first time I've heard of

07:33

that one uh then the is that released

07:35

yet I don't know the force awakens The

07:37

Last Jedi rise of Skywalker then Star

07:40

Wars Visions bo bo

07:50

[Music]

07:54

boom let's talk about Andor

07:57

yeah uh what a what are your

08:00

impressions uh it's enjoyable I think

08:03

it's very solid it's not my favorite

08:05

thing in the world but it's very solid I

08:07

think it's excellent World building and

08:10

Cassian Andor is probably the least

08:12

interesting character in the show and

08:14

it's probably it's probably even just a

08:17

misname show it should just been like

08:18

called like Star Wars rebellion or

08:20

something or or Star Wars heroes that's

08:24

a lame name but from from what I

08:27

gathered from it it's the the the Empire

08:30

and then people that are characters that

08:34

are doing their own little bits to start

08:38

to form the Rebellion or be heroic

08:42

against it themselves all the way from

08:43

man Matha MMA down to you know Cass

08:47

Andor Andor from the yeah and so they

08:49

cut they give basically all these

08:51

characters equal screen time mon mothma

08:54

is uh man mothma is a of course a

08:58

senator she's very very wealthy um but

09:01

she has that you know that that sense

09:05

that something is is going very wrong

09:07

yeah and there's there's very uh there's

09:09

some injustice happening and she's

09:11

secretly working with um stellen

09:15

Skarsgard who is kind of a mystery

09:17

character but he he has that great

09:19

speech in one of the later episodes what

09:22

have you the what have you given of

09:23

speech Yes who's also working with a

09:25

different kind of hero the the uh the

09:28

Imperial

09:30

uh double agent or or spy yeah who's

09:33

risking his neck to send him information

09:36

then you have um all those characters

09:38

that do the heist um even down andor's

09:42

mother the little robot I mean

09:44

everyone's doing their part even the

09:46

Imperial characters are good like I

09:49

really like the uh ISB lady and even the

09:51

ISB director guy who just seems entirely

09:55

reasonable and professional he's just

09:56

doing his job well he's just that guy

09:59

just screams Star Wars Imperial villain

10:02

yes he was born to play that

10:05

role that's a bit of a stretch the the

10:08

the inner workings of the Empire and

10:12

yeah I I I like the idea of World

10:14

building although it's almost an

10:17

impossible task because you're talking

10:20

about how to form a Galactic Empire and

10:24

the logistics of that and in the first

10:27

movie Star Wars it didn't matter it's a

10:30

fairy it's it's a fairy tale it's people

10:32

like to think Star Wars is science

10:33

fiction it's not it's fantasy with space

10:36

paint it's a simple Story the the the

10:38

the hero uh defeats the the evil emperor

10:42

he slays some dragons on the way but

10:44

hero's journey the world isn't important

10:47

but you're going to go on and do 50

10:50

years worth of additional material and

10:53

Cassian and Andor is the kind of [ __ ] we

10:56

need now we need to flesh out this world

10:58

yeah or do we and see that's that's like

11:01

the the contradiction or conundrum that

11:04

I wanted to discuss with you because

11:05

that's what Lucas wanted to do it the

11:08

prequels yeah but he did it badly I know

11:11

that's the thing is like I have a a

11:14

slightly like if my appreciation for the

11:16

prequels just went up just a tick

11:19

because after the the the original

11:22

trilogy which is a I don't know a hero's

11:25

journey an Adventure film a you know

11:27

conquer the bad guy simple fairy tale

11:30

what do you do he wanted to tell the

11:32

backstory but he I don't think he was

11:35

he's a good enough writer it's like

11:37

sketching with a pencil and suddenly

11:39

somebody gives you paint and it's got

11:40

you have all these colors it's like

11:43

watching a painter you just you know you

11:44

put colors you put colors it's not done

11:46

until it's done that guy is a cyber

11:48

character he's not

11:50

real the guy that was jumping I mean

11:53

I've seen those movies I know he wasn't

11:55

a good enough writer to do that okay and

11:56

if you if you release something like

11:58

Andor Star Wars is back over a month ago

12:01

all right get out your lightsabers you

12:03

just may have noticed that Star Wars the

12:05

latest episode opens nationally at

12:07

Midnight's night the hype surrounding

12:08

this movie has been overwhelming now the

12:10

question is will it deliver they're

12:11

about to open the doors here just a few

12:13

minutes and people are revved up Star

12:16

Wars is back everybody and then Andor

12:19

comes on the screen this is

12:22

[Applause]

12:28

awesome

12:30

is that how you've been presenting

12:31

yourself to the

12:33

world it would explain a great

12:37

deal and it's like the most depressing

12:40

like miserable thing you've ever seen

12:42

that wouldn't work so he wanted to tell

12:44

the story of how the Empire came about

12:49

all while having a little kid and a

12:51

cartoon rabbit and poopy jokes and a

12:55

wacky adventure in it it you know it's

12:59

like oil and water it this is how you

13:02

should have done the prequels but it's

13:05

like a fork in the road do you go for

13:07

space adventure SCI sci-fi fantasy about

13:11

you know guy saving the princess from

13:14

the evil bad guy who's he has a galactic

13:17

space Empire or do you you make

13:20

something like Game of Thrones where you

13:22

if this really dark political Intrigue

13:25

and all this dialogue and this person's

13:28

betraying this person this person's a

13:29

spy and that cuz that's what Andor is

13:31

MHM one is for adults one is for

13:33

children and I guess or or the young at

13:35

heart let's say that the Star Wars the

13:38

stupid well no ST the original Star Wars

13:41

Trilogy isn't for stupid it's it's for

13:42

everybody I'm kidding um but what which

13:46

way do you go with it and I get maybe

13:48

it's a a good thing that the Star Wars

13:51

franchise has so

13:52

many uh facets I guess or age ranges

13:57

like uh I'm a baby and I want to watch

14:00

baby Jedi Adventures I'm a 48-year-old

14:03

man and I want to watch this the most

14:05

depressing thing I've ever seen Oh I

14:07

thought you were going to say I'm a

14:07

48-year-old man and I want to watch Jedi

14:09

baby Adventures that's too that too um

14:13

and then it's like okay little Tommy

14:15

Tommy's eight and Tommy wants to watch

14:17

some Star Wars let's put on

14:28

Andor

14:35

I I'd liked anything space when I was a

14:37

kid I might have actually liked this

14:38

when I was a kid or at least some of the

14:40

at least some of the more exciting story

14:42

arcs in this cuz there's like there's

14:43

like three or four separate mini movies

14:46

in this yeah yeah yeah and that's that's

14:48

what I I liked is that it just it

14:50

changes up its uh tone quite a bit not

14:54

the tone but the locals and scenarios

14:57

he's um uh he's he's a thief on like a

15:00

planet that's controlled by a

15:01

corporation and it's not even really

15:03

controlled by the Empire it's controlled

15:05

by like a corporation yeah that operates

15:07

within the Empire it starts off as as a

15:10

a noirish murder mystery then it goes to

15:14

a heist movie then it goes to a prison

15:17

escape movie yeah yeah the opening I I

15:20

think that's what grabbed me was that

15:22

kind of first episode or two when he's

15:25

searching for his sister but he's in a

15:28

he's in an adjunct planet of the Empire

15:32

a a corporate Planet it's like a company

15:34

town almost that does mining I don't I

15:37

don't know it's like always raining and

15:40

there's like a security company that

15:43

maintains the planet it's so it's not

15:46

the Empire they're like the corporate

15:48

cops the corporate the corporate own

15:50

police force yeah and and the uh Andor

15:54

gets like harassed by these two guys he

15:56

goes to like a

15:57

brothel right off the bat's like okay

16:00

tell Timmy to watch baby Jedi instead he

16:03

goes to a brothel and he's trying to

16:04

find his sister and um these guys rough

16:07

him up and then he ends up killing them

16:08

both and then um that great scene I love

16:12

that scene with the head of the

16:15

corporate cops this case appears to Bear

16:18

all the Hallmarks of what I like to

16:19

describe as regrettable misadventure but

16:22

they were murdered no they were killed

16:24

in the fight this guy this actor was on

16:28

a show called

17:29

I must investigate this and he's really

17:30

like um and I want to talk about his

17:33

character Arc cuz that was the most

17:34

important thing in the whole show for me

17:36

and it let me down well yeah yeah it's

17:38

like an anti- character Arc it it was

17:42

that was the most disappointing and

17:44

maybe it'll

17:45

change in season two no he's he's he's

17:49

gone too far into insane territory to

17:52

fix his character I think well let's

17:54

just talk about it because I might

17:56

forget to talk about it later yeah

17:57

that's fine no we can talk about it and

17:59

I want to see if you agree with me on

18:00

this cuz watching this I'm like what is

18:02

his what is his Arc and he is um he

18:07

parallels Andor almost

18:10

precisely uh but on opposite ends right

18:14

Andor is a like a he grew up he was like

18:17

on a alien planet as a kid and he got

18:19

rescued um by Smugglers or um what

18:23

thieves I don't know yeah

18:26

scavengers a better term for it yeah

18:28

scavengers um his mother and his father

18:30

they would be his adopted parents cuz uh

18:33

he was like a tribal kid on a planet

18:36

that uh in in Star Trek terms it's I get

18:39

the feeling his Planet would have been

18:40

pre-warp yes definitely um and so he

18:45

grew up poor scrap scrapping around you

18:48

know breaking the law blah blah blah

18:50

blah blah meanwhile Kyle Soler character

18:54

car s Karin Law and Order guy he gets

18:58

really involved D in Justice he wants

19:01

Justice uh someone killed those two guys

19:04

even though they're scummy guys hanging

19:06

out of brothel Justice and duty duty and

19:09

Justice and he he goes to this Mission

19:12

which turns into a

19:14

disaster and he gets fired essentially

19:16

or demoted kicked out he ends up back at

19:21

home in his mother's house that's kind

19:23

of great at first they wore thin on me

19:26

after like Eight Episodes but he he gets

19:30

sent to corusant his mother lives in

19:31

like a basement apartment in corusant

19:34

which was awesome and the view out of

19:36

his childhood bedroom window was like

19:39

miserable you remember that like I don't

19:41

remember the view but it's it's it's

19:43

noteworthy cuz it's just nothing but

19:44

just like concrete and and just is just

19:48

ugly and there her apartment is so dingy

19:50

and small and she's nagging him you know

19:53

it it was almost comical I thought it

19:55

was going to I I could to be honest I

19:56

thought it was going to end with him

19:57

just murdering I I I I I thought that's

20:00

where they were

20:01

going what is it you'll be asking

20:04

for someone who'll take you on S setting

20:08

the bar high are we Uncle har will know

20:11

what's best he uh she's like I'm going

20:14

to hook you up with Uncle so and so and

20:16

he can get you a job and then he he

20:18

shows up and it's like this giant like

20:20

office uh what what is it the department

20:23

of just

20:25

standards a sea of um cubicles

20:29

yeah the the Star Wars equivalent of

20:31

cubicles so he has like a mundane like

20:33

nothing job and he's he's like angry and

20:39

then he gets interrogated by Dedra Dedra

20:42

that's it Dedra Miro she's like she's

20:44

working her way up the ladder too her

20:46

and that other guy are like stabbing

20:49

each other in the back to try to get the

20:50

approval of the head guy she's working

20:53

her way up the Imperial like law

20:56

enforcement ladder CIA the intelligence

20:59

intelligence yeah um and she

21:01

interrogates him and he's like he's like

21:03

uh you want Cassie Endor I want to get

21:05

him too blah blah blah blah I could work

21:06

with you I can help you and she doesn't

21:09

want his help because she wants all the

21:11

credit M um and she basically tells him

21:14

to [ __ ] off and he starts stalking her

21:17

he wants to do the right thing for a

21:19

couple episodes he's trying to find

21:21

Andor himself he's doing and he he his

21:24

friend from the police force or the

21:26

security Force calls him he's like I

21:28

found out

21:29

he's working the shittiest job in the

21:31

world indeed been a bit rugged for me

21:34

lately but you know the he's set on

21:38

finding Andor he never says like I'm

21:41

going to kill him or and then I thought

21:44

like Andor lives with his mother this

21:47

guy lives with his mother they're sort

21:49

of like on different ends and I really

21:51

thought at the very end he was going to

21:54

betray the blonde dear dear dearra dear

21:59

Mira Dedra Mira or whatever I thought he

22:02

was going to betray her or or or maybe

22:04

at the last minute save Andor because

22:08

he's all about Justice there comes a

22:10

time when

22:11

the the risk of doing

22:14

nothing becomes the greatest risk of

22:17

all and the Empire has done

22:22

nothing to provide that Justice you know

22:25

what I mean yeah yeah there's a will

22:28

murder are running free because of

22:30

corruption and laxity in the corporate

22:31

Authority I was punished for trying to

22:33

uphold the law do my job maintain Public

22:36

Safety it almost seemed like he would

22:39

have a character a complete 180 where he

22:42

realized that the real Justice being

22:44

done in the galaxy is done by the rebels

22:47

it it would have fit thematically too

22:50

because in this show a lot of the people

22:52

who are currently Rebels used to be part

22:55

of the imperial system right former

22:57

Stormtroopers

22:59

uh CIA guys who are moles now yeah cuz

23:02

he did everything he could the correct

23:05

way and the real Injustice that was

23:09

happening within the Empire or within

23:11

the corporate structure that he was in

23:14

um the the the hierarchy whatever you

23:17

want to call it and um he was not able

23:19

to achieve that and so I would think he

23:22

would um empathize or relate to Andor

23:26

and I just pictured this ending where

23:28

the the the blonde woman has the gun at

23:30

him you know and Andrew oh don't shoot

23:32

me and then and then you know the camera

23:36

pans over and there he is pointing the

23:37

gun at her I I I was going to let you

23:40

help me track him down but

23:43

no you you inhibit Justice You're a

23:48

tyrant this Show's very very maybe not

23:51

so maybe not so um Grand or cliched yeah

23:56

not maybe not literal that's literally

23:58

what happened but um uh him him

24:01

switching sides would have been a nice

24:03

treat because he was he was hunting

24:05

Andor I just didn't want I'm mad and I

24:08

want to kill him like Revenge kind of

24:10

thing because of what happened I thought

24:12

it would have given his character some

24:14

depth like he he re he realized the

24:18

reason he was hunting Andor was for the

24:19

wrong reasons you know what I mean yeah

24:21

have you modified your

24:23

uniform perhaps

24:25

slightly Pockets piping and some light

24:31

tailoring because I mean he he starts

24:33

off almost almost likable because he is

24:35

the only one that cares about doing his

24:37

job properly yeah it turns out he's

24:39

incompetent at it but he at least cares

24:41

about doing things the right way he's an

24:43

interesting character in that way which

24:45

is why I I kind of suspected they were

24:47

going to do something like that where he

24:49

was going to be either a good guy all

24:51

along behind the scenes or have that

24:53

turn but well he tried he tried

24:55

everything he could do by the book book

24:59

uh by procedure by the law within the

25:04

imperial system and it did nothing back

25:06

for him they just basically said [ __ ]

25:09

you we don't want your

25:18

help there's a lot of uh uh moral gray

25:22

area that you didn't get with the

25:24

original trilogy or the prequels or most

25:27

things like B mothma is making some

25:29

compromises MH to get this Rebellion

25:32

thing off I mean she sells out her own

25:33

[ __ ] daughter to a crime Lord yeah

25:37

because she needs money mhm uh uh AIS uh

25:40

Luan what's his name like like Luan Luan

25:44

he's he he is very morally great yes

25:48

like he he he gives Ander this speech

25:49

like don't you want to fight them come

25:50

on and then like you know the next day

25:52

after the job is done he puts out the

25:54

order yeah kill him mhm but he's he's

25:56

doing what he thinks he has to do

25:59

and even Andor you know yeah he kills

26:01

the the guy from the you ever watch the

26:04

bear that show no the guy the guy who um

26:08

he told him the story about his brother

26:09

who had the the apple farm or something

26:12

he was killed by the Empire he was lying

26:13

oh yeah he was just really there to

26:15

steal money and then um he's like come

26:18

on come on come on with me Andor we'll

26:20

split it and Andor just murders

26:22

him cuz he couldn't after that after he

26:25

he could not be trusted after that after

26:27

he exposed himself and couldn't turn his

26:28

back to him yeah or else you know so

26:30

it's sort of self-defense but in the the

26:33

same way it's just sort of like

26:34

coldblooded murder same with the guy in

26:36

the very first

26:40

episode you mentioned World building the

26:43

idea of how to form a Galactic Empire is

26:49

is to me like kind of hard to hard to

26:53

wrap your head around and you would need

26:55

like 12 TV series to do it how do you

27:00

start a galactic

27:01

umpire new

27:03

chapter you you have the Phantom medice

27:06

you you have electrocuted your own face

27:09

with your laser fingers okay which has

27:12

turned you into a monster ah and you

27:14

just threw Samuel L Jackson out the

27:16

window uh how do you start a Galactic

27:19

Empire you just you take I mean it's

27:22

it's happened in history it's happened

27:24

in [ __ ] Rome the one thing that was

27:27

interesting in the one idea I should say

27:30

in the prequels was

27:34

Palpatine uh

27:36

creating uh I guess you'd call it

27:39

military-industrial complex right like

27:41

the need

27:42

for uh constant buildup of Army and

27:48

machine machines of War based on a

27:52

threat an everpresent threat right that

27:54

he has manufactured so that he can have

27:56

his own personal Army ex and so he he

27:59

created the Clone War um that he devised

28:03

so that there would be a need for the

28:04

Senate to approve building millions of

28:07

starships and creating clone troops and

28:09

all that kind of stuff so you have to

28:11

have the power first

28:13

unlimited

28:16

[Music]

28:20

power you do that you do that step by

28:23

step one little bill I need this this

28:25

power to do this act to enforce this

28:27

aspect of society right oh we need to

28:30

monitor the phone lines now because of

28:32

this terrorist act so and here's a new

28:34

law where I have control over the phone

28:36

and the communication you just you do it

28:38

bit by bit until you have full control

28:41

over everything but then but it's

28:42

different on a galactic

28:44

scale you do you know this from

28:48

experience well you have you have

28:50

planets other I guess I don't know the

28:52

makeup the the the one thing I'm most

28:54

interested in Star Wars is the the mon

28:59

calamari uhhuh because they were like

29:03

the Workhorse of the rebellion in terms

29:05

of spaceships they were they were the

29:08

race that had the giantest largest space

29:12

cruisers and

29:14

um like those kind of planets must exist

29:19

out there you know what I mean and I

29:21

think that was the purpose of them is

29:23

once they joined the Rebellion it kind

29:25

of really picked up speed they didn't

29:27

have they had bigger ships to fight

29:30

where are they where's their race in the

29:32

grand scheme of things I I could presume

29:35

that the the galactic Republic might not

29:39

be the entire galaxy but it might be

29:41

more like you know Europe as supposed to

29:43

do the entire world maybe just very

29:46

large but there are still other smaller

29:49

bodies out there I don't know see that's

29:50

the thing it's it's almost mindboggling

29:52

and and how to how to handle it you know

29:56

my pay is a NE Republican

29:59

the gourman front the partisan Alliance

30:03

sector human cultist Galaxy petition

30:07

they're lost all of them lost the the

30:11

this the scene where they do the heist

30:14

on the Whatchamacallit the uh all Altera

30:17

or something yeah the the all the they

30:19

take all the gold or space the the

30:22

entire what is it the the payroll

30:24

payroll for an entire sector of the

30:26

Empire and see that's other thing too is

30:28

now you're bringing economics the

30:31

Galactic Empire is paying I want to see

30:33

a character that instead of like

30:35

quitting being a stormtrooper decides to

30:37

go become one you squeeze their e

30:40

economics in their City to where they

30:43

they they can't provide for themselves

30:46

well there's a great way where you could

30:47

provide for your family join the Army

30:49

you know what I mean uh um they maybe

30:52

that's something they could do yet I

30:54

there's nothing saying they can't have a

30:56

a show where do now you've got a

30:58

contradiction in where Storm Troopers

31:00

came from they were clone troopers

31:01

before but now they're not are there

31:04

worlds out there because all every World

31:07

we've seen like that's why I'm

31:08

interested in the mang

31:09

kelari get away from me I want to see

31:13

the m i want to see the mang calamari

31:15

home world and because if they could

31:18

build spaceships that big they have some

31:21

tech they have an advanced Society uhhuh

31:24

the Star Wars worlds we see are worlds

31:26

like um I what what's the Andor world

31:29

that where he lives with his mother all

31:30

the fcks yeah worlds like that where

31:32

they're still bartering they're they're

31:34

cutting up fish meat they're sell

31:37

they're cleaning up Scrappy Parts uh we

31:40

see fck we see Tatooine we see a lot of

31:42

like poor planets where they're

31:44

scrapping by but I I'm I'm curious about

31:48

the the the me median income worlds

31:52

where they have technology and they have

31:53

people that are like doing okay where

31:57

they don't feel the need to Rebel

32:00

because they're in living in squalor and

32:03

see see you you and me grew up in a

32:06

world where the middle class was a thing

32:09

a middle class that's what the middle

32:10

class is currently shrinking sure and

32:13

that's when the middle class shrinks

32:16

that's when you get horrible [ __ ] like

32:17

the Empire yeah yeah okay the Empire

32:20

might not have much of a middle class I

32:24

guess I want to see the nuts and bolts

32:25

of the Empire crushing or

32:29

uh conquering I don't know what what the

32:32

term would be a middle class middle

32:35

upper class world to where they come in

32:38

and they say oh hi we're the Empire I

32:41

know you have a really perfectly

32:42

functioning Planet you know you have

32:44

technology you you you but we want to

32:47

take over and we want to we can ex we

32:50

can suck out all of your resources and

32:52

and basically conquer you yeah occupy

32:55

your planet take take your uh men and

32:59

turn them into Stormtroopers recruit

33:01

people like like where do these people

33:03

come from who are in the the ISB room

33:06

like where do they come from do they

33:08

apply for

33:10

jobs are they cons conscripted are

33:13

they it would make sense that you apply

33:16

for a job you take like an intelligence

33:17

test like you are super smart you go to

33:19

this department you're dumb you fly a

33:22

TIE fighter around and shoot the lasers

33:26

like like how does it work

33:28

and Andor gives us a taste of that yeah

33:31

some sectors might naturally appear more

33:34

exciting from the outside weights and

33:36

gauges may seem a more vibrant Arena

33:39

than redundancy or verification but walk

33:42

the floor talk to any lifetime

33:46

employee you'll be

33:48

surprised like I loved all those scenes

33:51

the Imperial scenes they're having the

33:53

board meetings it's like the scene in

33:56

the new hope you know I like I like the

33:58

board I like those scenes better in this

34:00

because they're not mustache they're

34:01

villains but they're not mustache

34:03

twirling yes they're just they're just

34:05

very competently doing their jobs

34:07

talking about how they can stamp out

34:09

this growing Rebel threat or figuring

34:11

out that there even is a rebel threat if

34:13

if Star Wars is just going to be three

34:15

movies it's just a fairy tale and we

34:17

tell that story and we're done with it I

34:19

prefer it to be black and white if we're

34:21

going to go on and on and on and on

34:23

we're going to be endless I I think you

34:25

need the kind of complexity that gray

34:26

gives us or or else you're just doing

34:28

the same black and white story over and

34:30

over again where the young Jedi fights

34:32

the evil Jedi ad nauseum until you throw

34:34

up every night cry yourself to sleep so

34:39

so I think I think your road to more

34:41

interesting complex stories is Andor

34:43

style great I didn't want you to have to

34:45

make this

34:47

Choice well the greater good call it

34:51

what you

34:53

will it's call it

34:56

War

35:00

I I I I enjoyed all the dialogue in this

35:03

all the

35:04

performances the the the scenery the

35:07

look they really they really like I

35:10

guess Rogue one did the same thing but

35:12

they just go all in like this the this

35:14

retro future 70s style future the

35:17

haircuts the haircuts in this are on

35:20

point well and the tech too like um the

35:23

' 70s Tech it it's it's perfect the one

35:27

what's the scene where he's speaking

35:28

into the mic and it's the like the same

35:30

mic um that Han Solo is yelling into um

35:34

but but on that point it doesn't do the

35:37

like the member berries or the um uh St

35:41

it's not Star Wars porn like the this

35:44

compared to like Rogue one Rogue one is

35:46

like

35:47

disgusting like overload of Star Wars

35:50

porn this is like I I you you hear a TIE

35:55

fighter and you see it Fly by in the

35:57

beginning and the sound is like

35:59

terrifying it's like it's like that

36:01

sound is so

36:07

[Music]

36:13

great you don't see Stormtroopers for

36:16

like seven episodes and when you do

36:18

they're like in the background it's like

36:20

not even important yeah it's like oh

36:22

that's a thing and I think you see The

36:25

Little Death Star

36:26

Droid

36:28

but it the the uh the

36:32

restraint on remember that remember that

36:36

stuff is like it's just needed it's

36:38

placed where it's just needed and that's

36:40

it yeah that is like very impressive

36:45

like relating to like the look of the

36:46

show there's one thing and it's the

36:47

dumbest thing in the world but I just

36:49

love it we talked about the U in

36:51

informant that's in the ISB that one guy

36:54

just his haircut and mustache it's it's

36:58

perfect that man looks like he both

37:00

looks like he's in a science fiction

37:01

show yet he also looks like he walked

37:03

straight out of the 70s yeah I I

37:06

actually really like that scene when he

37:08

goes in that elevator and it's like this

37:10

janky elevator it's going up to like

37:12

200th floor and that Corridor and that

37:16

look it's so Star Wars It's So Empire

37:21

Strikes Back looking

37:23

subtle but very very star warsy without

37:27

being being Rogue one over overload know

37:31

cuz I hate that movie it's just too much

37:34

it's too much it's too I it's just dumb

37:37

go to a place go to a place everyone

37:39

dies the end yeah it was just dumb it

37:42

was this the writing is better it's very

37:45

slow moving it's very intriguing um the

37:48

only cons that I would have um just sort

37:52

of like you mentioned Andor as a

37:54

character is he's not the most okay this

37:58

is this is just me the some an issue I

38:00

am having with the show

38:02

is I I can't not know that Cassie and

38:06

Andor dies five minutes after the show

38:09

ends and it is like impossible for me to

38:12

let myself get too invested in his

38:15

character no I I guess I guess I I I

38:19

that to me doesn't really bother me I

38:22

think the only thing is that it's

38:25

everything is fairly like joyless

38:28

uh and I I get it's a darker show but if

38:32

I if I were to have a note on it it

38:33

would be

38:35

just give us a little something no don't

38:39

you want to wallow don't let's wallow in

38:41

the misery yeah you're okay we're

38:44

establishing that our Empire is a bad

38:46

thing that needs to be defeated and they

38:47

are making everything miserable I I'm

38:50

not talking jarjar Binks level of comic

38:51

relief the robot is enough I'm happy

38:54

with the robot he's

38:56

adorable I don't know my my human self

39:00

wants I know there's the we didn't talk

39:03

about the bricks bicks character the uh

39:07

which one was big

39:08

female uh she gets interrogated all the

39:11

hell and then he rescues her at the end

39:13

I think there's a there's sort of um

39:17

implications that they may have had a

39:18

prior romance yeah and she's with Tim I

39:22

love that the guy's name is

39:24

Tim it's not Krebs Goron or anything

39:27

like that it's Tim it's got two M's

39:30

though I'm pretty

39:31

sure that's fine uh it's not it's not

39:35

gloron

39:37

clabor t t ymm yeah it's Tim he's Tim um

39:42

so I think there's a there there's a

39:44

little romance there uh but I just I I

39:48

need a little I need someone to kind of

39:50

smile just once just smile it's all I

39:54

need you no no cuz here's the thing

39:56

though here's the thing with this now

39:58

that you have a universe if you need to

39:59

smile put on the original trilogy there

40:02

you go I I'm I I kind of enjoy this

40:05

being miserable okay I guess so yeah I I

40:09

I just want a dash just a dash Can can I

40:12

applaud their restraint in the Bix

40:14

interrogation scene sure when when uh

40:18

when Dedra is talking about I have this

40:20

evil scientist and he has invented the

40:23

new most evil way to extract information

40:26

from somebody I was waiting for the the

40:28

brown black Droid to come

40:30

up they just they didn't go there and

40:34

thank

40:35

you thank you well and that guy he's

40:37

like oh hi how are you doing today it's

40:40

like here here's audio of the death

40:42

screams of children um it will melt your

40:46

brain uh he was a psychopath but what

40:49

they did do and I don't know if you

40:50

noticed this uhhuh a very subtle nod to

40:54

A New Hope when the the black spherical

40:59

Droid with the needle on the end goes at

41:01

Princess Leia and Vader goes and then

41:04

the door closes the camera pans down

41:07

rapidly and follows the footsteps of a

41:10

stormtrooper or a black guy in the black

41:12

outfit they do the same shot in this

41:15

where the doors closed I didn't notice

41:18

CU I haven't watched those movies in

41:19

ages but every frame of Star Wars is in

41:22

my memory banks every shot every camera

41:25

move so they do that same thing

41:29

sho I'm going to put him side by side

41:31

I'm sure others have noticed but it was

41:33

it was clever it was a clever little

41:35

wink but yes they didn't go so far as

41:38

bringing out the probe interrogation

41:42

Droid zoom in on the needle 70s zoom in

41:46

on the needle yeah I was expecting that

41:48

too but the guy played the death screams

41:52

of of

41:54

children and I'm like that's new and

41:57

evil and and very evil yeah their

42:01

screams are so haunting it will melt

42:03

your

42:15

brain see to me I think the

42:20

contradiction that's really hard for my

42:23

brain to get around and this is C this

42:26

Andor has certainly helped but when you

42:29

take Star Wars Ultra seriously you know

42:33

the first one it's like Han and lucer on

42:35

the Death Star and they're they put on

42:38

costumes and they break into the

42:39

security booth and H's like hey what

42:42

there's a princess I'm going to sleep

42:44

with her first no no no she's mine we're

42:47

going to go rescue her all right kid

42:49

let's go rescue the princess is she cute

42:52

does she have money you know this

42:54

they're all [ __ ] around there no

42:55

one's like it's not as deadly serious

42:58

and in this it's it's pretty good yeah

43:02

it's spying it's backstabbing betrayal

43:05

it's it's morally ambiguous and smartly

43:08

written and yeah you can't it the Empire

43:11

has to be serious and in the first

43:13

couple movies they're a little goofy

43:15

yeah yeah I

43:21

mean yeah the Ewoks are rock the bad

43:24

guys they're the bad guys and they're

43:26

not more they're not depth uh much more

43:28

depthful other than that mm if they do a

43:31

season two of

43:32

Andor they shouldn't have called it

43:34

Andor that yeah I was just going to say

43:36

that because you know who we haven't

43:37

talked about that much Andor because

43:40

he's the

43:41

least really is really kind of the least

43:44

interesting character in this is that

43:46

fair mon moth was more interesting axis

43:49

is a lot more interesting uh mon

43:52

mothma's cousin the the spoiled rich

43:54

girl who's pretending to be a spoiled

43:56

rich girl

43:58

she's in the Rebellion but she's like

43:59

unsure of herself she's more interesting

44:01

than Andor is K SK Kyle sorl skyroll kyn

44:07

yeah uh that guy's great but like you

44:10

said if we called it Star Wars

44:12

resistance resistance Rebellion Uprising

44:15

um then you could you could say oh

44:18

andor's gone off to do this job we don't

44:23

know what's going to happen to him let's

44:24

now follow cuz it it leads to a sequel

44:26

season seon because we have a now a nice

44:29

little uh cast of characters that all

44:32

board the ship we got

44:34

Bix uh andor's friend robot and then

44:38

there's like a older black lady who was

44:40

part of the sisters of fck uh she's just

44:43

like I'm going

44:44

too and I'm like who's that well then

44:47

also you get uh Andor going to I keep

44:50

calling him axis I know that's what the

44:51

Empire Luan or Lu Luan Luan and you get

44:55

Cassie ner going to luthan and that's

44:56

almost

44:57

unresolved too it's like what is Luan

45:00

gonna do he he's like shoot me and I I

45:03

was a little bit surprised because I

45:05

thought the season was just going to end

45:06

like its own self-contained completely

45:08

thing I didn't think the plan was more

45:10

of this yet the way this ended

45:12

definitely feels like there's going to

45:14

be more I mean the only real hiccup

45:16

would be obviously can't

45:19

go you can't go 10 years because that

45:21

actor's going to keep aging and he died

45:23

10 years ago right yeah you can't go too

45:26

far the timeline in terms of like when

45:29

the

45:30

um they steal the Death Star plans is to

45:34

me I don't know I don't know BB wise

45:37

maybe maybe if they want to go on eight

45:39

more years they just start one season

45:40

where he just shows up he's like got

45:41

soot all over him I got out just in

45:46

time no but but in terms of like how

45:50

many years it'll be or Seasons it'll be

45:53

until it gets to the events in Rogue one

45:56

I we don't know other than Diego Luna

45:58

aging aging uh that's the only real

46:01

problem but you could he could have

46:03

three seasons four seasons of Adventures

46:05

before Rogue one yeah yeah I mean you

46:08

can even maybe just turn the computer

46:10

knob the DH knob a little I guess that's

46:13

getting cheaper and cheaper just turn

46:14

that knob a little and maybe no you know

46:17

I don't know but um or you could just

46:19

I'd be I'd just turn that part of my

46:20

brain off I was like okay the actor's a

46:22

little older whatever it's the same yeah

46:24

me as a as a but I I don't think that

46:27

flies at most audience members these

46:29

days when we were young they used to

46:30

like recast people in TV shows all the

46:32

time I know it's weird Darren was a

46:35

different person in one season of

46:38

Bewitched and and logically this show

46:42

isn't going to go on for like 10 seasons

46:44

it doesn't happen anymore at most we'd

46:46

probably get three um and if if season

46:51

two he there there he goes off to find

46:54

his friends that he sent off bicks and

46:57

the wacky cast of characters and they

46:59

have more Adventures uh they're going to

47:01

do that but they'll also probably

47:04

continue to expand on how the Empire

47:08

works and I think that's just that's

47:10

just what I need I need that because I

47:14

got a little window into it into all the

47:16

different agencies and I want to know

47:19

like where these people come from where

47:23

the blonde lady where is she from what

47:25

how did she become that you know at what

47:28

point are you just like evil in in your

47:32

heart where you're just like hey this

47:33

sounds great like like no she's she's

47:36

she's fighting to preserve her way of

47:38

life Mike cuz that was always my problem

47:40

with like Luke turning to the dark side

47:43

in

47:45

Jedi um was like what what is the

47:47

Emperor offering him yeah you know join

47:51

me okay and that's one thing that Lucas

47:54

tried to do in the prequels was give

47:55

Anakin motivation

47:57

it was stupid it clumsy clumsy it was

48:00

clumsy is the the kind word for it

48:02

here's a dream of padame dying during

48:04

child birth if you become evil you have

48:07

magical powers that are beyond the Jedi

48:11

that could prevent her from dying okay

48:13

that's motivation for him wanting to

48:14

become evil yeah okay that in his

48:17

childish musings that the world would be

48:19

so much better if he had absolute power

48:22

remember how he romance Padme the

48:24

senator who dedicated her life to

48:26

democracy

48:27

by saying he would love to overthrow

48:28

democracy and have unlimited power for

48:31

himself yeah I think uh fascist

48:34

dictatorships not a bad idea it's like

48:37

oh no don't throw that line in there

48:38

George that ruins the character before

48:41

you ruin the

48:42

character he's evil from the get-go if

48:46

he was a really really nice guy and then

48:48

he got spooked by the fact that he he

48:51

had a vision that padame was going to

48:52

die that's a heroic tragic fall but yeah

48:55

the fact that he was he was a proponent

48:57

for

48:58

fascism right out the right out the

49:00

GetGo on their first

49:02

date sounds an awful lot like a

49:04

dictatorship to

49:07

me well if it

49:12

works so many problems there and those

49:16

prequels now how did you do those

49:18

animals are they camels that you've

49:20

changed they're old cyber animals uh I I

49:22

want to see I want to see more of uh of

49:27

not particularly Andor but Andor is just

49:29

a piece of a larger puzzle yeah he's

49:32

that's what I like about that's what I

49:34

like about I have always said that Star

49:36

Wars is really a very small world I've

49:39

complained about that endlessly and this

49:41

show is the first step towards

49:42

correcting that for me yeah yeah it

49:45

definitely expands it we see things we

49:47

haven't seen before we've seen some

49:49

things we've seen before we see the

49:50

Senate um you see things fleshed out

49:54

fleshed out like how the Empire we've

49:55

seen the Empire before but seeing like

49:57

the specifics of how the Empire operates

50:00

is something we haven't seen right yeah

50:02

and a couple little moments we we uh

50:04

that were that were refreshing and uh I

50:07

I like the part where um luthan escapes

50:10

from the Star Destroyer that was like an

50:12

exciting Little Star Wars moment you

50:14

know he we finally see him in action

50:18

he's not just a you know a puppet string

50:21

puller guy in a guy who's working behind

50:22

the scenes he actually has some some

50:24

skills himself um oh I I I I love the

50:28

the Dual like Alter Ego thing he has

50:31

going on he puts on the wig and he's

50:33

just fish an oh oh I'm high society man

50:38

and then he takes the wig off I've given

50:41

up everything for the

50:43

cause yeah yeah yes yes he's playing two

50:46

parts he's the he's the best character

50:48

in this and they should have just even

50:51

though he's a character that never

50:52

appeared anywhere before they should

50:53

have just called this show luthan yeah

50:57

Luan Lu Luan I don't know whatever I

51:00

don't care

51:01

AIS no no but but which is an odd name

51:05

for a guy who fights

51:09

fascism just saying and the I think they

51:12

refer to him as axis because an axis is

51:14

the center I I know I know looking at it

51:17

from a meta perspective a bit of there's

51:19

a bit of irony there I get it yes yes

51:21

yes and that's another thing too is I

51:24

never really saw recent absolutely hate

51:27

the Empire that's what I'm saying

51:30

until uh Cassie nandor decides to go to

51:33

the beach planet to spend his money and

51:36

sleep with prostitutes and he's just

51:38

walking around and he gets roughed up

51:41

what are you doing you committing some

51:42

kind of crime well you're under arrest

51:45

and we're what and then he gets dumped

51:48

in the most miserable prison which

51:52

ironically is very clean ironically very

51:55

clean it it was was like oh but uh I

51:59

would rather be in a you know Alcatraz

52:02

than there he's just you you have to

52:05

constantly work and you could get

52:06

electrocuted by the floor it was like a

52:08

nightmare yeah and I'm like and then

52:10

they find out and Andy Circus is in it

52:12

we didn't mention that um he's he's the

52:16

oh the the yeah the the boss the boss of

52:19

the of the other

52:20

prisoners they find out like oh they

52:23

executed a 100 200 men on one level for

52:27

some reason and oh yeah you're never

52:28

getting out of here they say your prison

52:31

sentence ends but it's not going to and

52:34

so that made me actually

52:36

like hate the Empire want to rebel

52:40

against them before it's just like well

52:41

what the problem they're the designated

52:43

bad guys versus this where it's like oh

52:46

they're the bad guys yeah now you

52:48

realize why they're the bad guys cuz cuz

52:50

they're pretty

52:52

awful uh and they take people's freedoms

52:56

away unjustly that court scene oh my God

53:00

the judge is like she's opening like

53:03

pistachios do you remember that it's

53:05

like getting all over the control panel

53:07

it's like ah six months usually this s

53:11

six years H then she's just a cog in the

53:13

machine she's got and see those those

53:16

are the type of characters too that I

53:18

want them to explore like the scummy

53:20

people who are who just who have that

53:24

security of being part of the Empire

53:27

that safety yeah if you're part of it

53:31

numerous characters that are all heroes

53:34

uh heroic rebellious characters in their

53:36

own way doing their own thing within the

53:40

scope of their limits you know obviously

53:43

access character Luther luthan is more

53:47

uh he has more resources skills than

53:50

someone like Andor he's got that his

53:52

badass spaceship um he's got he's he's

53:56

obviously got money and connections he's

53:57

got money and and he's well connected um

53:59

to politicians to and he he's he puts

54:02

together this rabble of people to break

54:05

in here he's doing things so he has his

54:07

own skill set you know Andor does mon

54:10

mothma you know all these characters and

54:12

so definitely the the best written and

54:16

executed Star Wars

54:18

product that I've seen since the yeah

54:22

the original

54:25

trilogy

54:29

I enjoyed the Mandalorian season one it

54:32

was fun it was fun adventures but this

54:34

is this is solid this is this is just

54:36

solid Mandalorian one was like like kind

54:38

of like a comic book yeah um this is

54:41

more like a Mandalorian was fun

54:43

adventures this is drama I just fear

54:46

season

54:48

two cuz remember season well I haven't

54:51

watched it but season two of The

54:53

Mandalorian we had like a CGI Luke

54:56

Skywalk

54:57

Walker and uh I've still never watched

55:00

it just because everything I heard about

55:01

it coming out I was just like I heard it

55:03

turned into like a memberberry Boba Fett

55:06

shows up L Skywalker shows up these

55:08

characters from that Clone Wars cartoon

55:10

series you never watch show up and I'm

55:12

just

55:13

like maybe not this I I just feel like

55:17

well I know someone who could help us

55:20

they are a Jedi it's a shoka they they

55:24

almost went without any references to

55:26

did Jedi in this at all they almost did

55:29

it did they have one the crystal I'm

55:32

pretty the crystal that access gives

55:35

Cassie and Andor I'm pretty sure is the

55:37

Lighty kyber Crystal um that that's fine

55:40

but that was subtle enough where it's

55:41

fine but if they if they go and we start

55:44

having like you know they go to deoa and

55:47

talk to Yoda and whatever [ __ ] it oh

55:52

what luan's going to be a secret Jedi

55:54

that's going to be a the broken Crystal

55:56

from his old

55:58

lightsaber he does have that they're

56:00

going to ruin his character does know it

56:02

will always be worth more to me I want

56:05

it back when this is over he does have

56:07

that weird staff thing they're going to

56:09

ruin his character he's going to be his

56:11

secret Jedi what are you

56:17

Luan I've never really

56:20

known what are

56:22

you

56:25

yeah

56:28

okay I know hate the show is he going to

56:30

fight Darth Vader is he going to fight

56:31

Darth Vader oh it's happening you're so

56:34

good with your predictions you're

56:36

probably

56:38

right he's going to put that he's going

56:40

to take that broken Crystal and he's

56:41

going to put it inside his staff and

56:44

that staff he has it has it it look when

56:46

he was walking with it it looked like a

56:48

lightsaber oh no oh no yeah oh you're

56:51

right oh no they're going to ruin his

56:53

character he's so interesting and

56:54

they're going to ruin his character but

56:55

making him a [ __ ]

56:57

Jedi

57:00

oh [ __ ]

57:03

this [ __ ] Andor [ __ ]

57:10

[Music]

57:13

Andor
