Transcripts
hello guys and gals me mudahar and today
we got to talk about review channels now
to understand ladies and gentlemen I
don't watch a lot of tech review stuff
because to be honest with you most of
the technology that comes out these days
doesn't entirely interest me okay unless
you got some new graphic card coming out
then I get really excited one of my
favorite channels is digital Foundry CU
I'm a huge nerd for video game Graphics
okay I like to know what what level of
dlss FSR frame Generation stuff is kind
of going W Buck Wild but when it comes
smartphone reviews I really don't care
for me a cell phone is a device that you
literally browse the internet you know
send a message and watch your videos
okay that's all that matters to me I
don't care about having the most
up-to-date processor nor do I care about
playing Resident Evil 4 remake on a
phone okay at the end of the day I use
three simple tasks if I could go back to
Nokia 3300s I probably would because
honestly I don't really use my
smartphone for much else now one tech
review channel that we all know on this
platform is mares brownley okay not
marass brownley I'm watching You Will
Smith IR robot 2 better be a thing
before I die but ladies and gentlemen
mares brownley is somebody that's been
on this platform for a long time 18
million something subscribers and one of
my favorite videos was when he had the
Escobar fault phone showing that Tech
reviewers can sometimes cross into the
path of violent drug cartels or ex
violent drug cartels in this day and age
wild stuff indeed watch that video
absolutely one of the best reviews on
the platform now he made a video review
where he talked about something known as
the worst product I've ever reviewed for
now okay now of course that's a pretty
scathing title from somebody whose job
it is to review technology now inside
this video mares brownley reviews this
pin this uh this pin known as The Humane
AI pin now you might be wondering w muda
what is so wild about the Humane AI pin
to give you an idea I'm going to show
you their website real quick
and to understand this is the product
right here it's literally something you
wear on your actual like shirt okay
whatever it is now it's got a bit of a
camera array going on it is basically an
AI powered pin that allows you to like
look at the world around you okay so
according to them it is an AI digital
assistant on call a bunch of them
actually it's a researcher interpreter
photographer communicator and apparently
a DJ as if you needed all of that around
you at any given moment soon a
assistants like a nutritionist Shopper
Navigator and more will join your team
making your work in life feel even
easier now Humane incorporation is not a
new new organization it's been around
since
2018 and according to this situation
they've actually raised over $200
million and they've got some pretty big
investors you've got Microsoft you've
got Qualcomm you've got big names like
Sam Alman you've got Partnerships with
open AI this is something that was I
guess poised to be one of the biggest AI
wearable tools imaginable until of
course actual Tech reviewers got their
[ __ ] hands on it now when it comes to
reviews ladies and gentlemen you should
be honest okay now if this if this like
if this uh glass of yellow fluid I
bought at the at the at the fast food
place tasted like piss I would tell you
it tasted like piss all right simply
because if you decide to go to a Tim
Hortons and buy this exact product and
it tasted like dog water then honestly
my endorsement would bring pretty Hol
you'd never trust me again okay we
wouldn't have that trust relationship
and same thing with channels like
Marques okay when he makes a tech review
he's going to be honest about it if the
product is dog [ __ ] then it's his right
to say the product is bad as long as he
provides an ample amount of information
to supplement that which he did for 25
minutes so I'm going to play a clip that
was shared around now the last day I saw
Bloods be yapping about this [ __ ] going
I find it distasteful almost unethical
to say this when you have 18 million
subscribers hard to explain why but with
great reach comes great
responsibility okay Uncle Ben chill the
[ __ ] out it's a tech review dog what are
you what's what's going on potentially
killing someone else's na project reeks
of carelessness first Do no harm now of
course to remind you human AI once again
rais 200 million something dollars okay
it's not like there's dummies behind
this now obviously if you look at their
product once again ladies and gentlemen
it's an AI pin imagine having something
like Siri or Google Now or any of these
you know goo voice AI products always on
your body at any given moment okay how
is using a device like this any
different than pointing the back end of
a smartphone at any device and asking an
AI to scan things for you in fact
according to maris's own video he
actually showed how stupid this product
in a way was watch this clip
look and tell me what this
is or I'll just do this I
guess
ah it's a cyber truck the photo is of a
cyber truck an electric pickup truck
produced by
Tesla yep now if you're going to have a
digital assistant on your pocket you
probably should be faster than the
person who can whip out their cell phone
themselves and do the same thing going
on see what happened with this device
over here according to maris's like
actual showcase was it used the onboard
camera and actually looked in front and
it said oh that's a car right there okay
but in the time it took for the AI the
hardware to phone back to the AI and
then get the answer in that amount of
time Mars just pointed a camera use the
Google AI and basically determine the
answer right there so again it shows
that buying a device like this this is
ultimately meaningless okay if you can
just do the exact same thing anyways and
you might be like well muda what if it's
like a $50 device no no no no no no the
starting price on this bad boy is $700
Us by the way okay that involves the AI
pin the battery booster the charge pad
the USBC everything imaginable and of
course you get unlimited AI queries Talk
Text data and cloud storage you might be
like whoa 700 bucks for that oo that's
sounds kind of weird muda but maybe it
pays for it back hold on it also needs a
subscription service okay so to use the
AI which I assume it's probably like a
licensed chat GPT kind of thing going
right because here's the thing it's not
locally processing anything as far as my
understanding goes according to maris's
own review it had to look at a at a
cyber truck take a photo of it send that
information back home all right to a
server that server process it then sends
back the result results to this device
it's not like it's locally processing
anything so this subscription costs $24
a month okay that's before taxes and
[ __ ] fees okay so may I remind you
guys not all products deserve to succeed
okay this is a dumb product from the
get-go the only use case scenario I
actually see out of this product is one
thing one thing only old people see
unless you're like an old person where
like your eyes are going out or maybe
not everyone is there for for you at
every given moment and the world is
evolving around you having a little pin
that autoc captures a photo and relays
information in real time like that is
cool the barrier of Entry to AI is
reduced but see that's the only use case
right there Maris is not collecting
Social Security checks as far as my
knowledge goes neither are most people
watching any of our channels so for us
looking at a product like this it holds
no actual weight to it unless this was
like Life Alert AI okay then the whole
story would be different but see this is
a dumb product simple through and
through that's the whole story I want to
bring back for you now I guess the
problem with blood yapping over here is
why didn't you use the same
sensationalist title on Twitter to be
honest the YouTube title was clickbait
and in reality I don't really agree the
YouTube title was clickbait the man
believes this is the worst product
they've ever reviewed okay simple as
that lots of people use these titles I
use these titles like in the worlds of
SpongeBob they're kind of like sentence
enhancers I'm s sorry that in some
reality obviously with sites like
YouTube or any of these social media
websites a lot of the part of making a
video is The Branding itself is the
actual like first glance that somebody
takes in a search engine unfortunately
clickbait is kind of a requirement for a
lot of channels every channel does this
okay lonus mares everyone covers it to
an extent clickbait to me is only bad if
the actual like focus and core of the
video has literally nothing to do with
the title and the thumbnail itself which
yes that deserves to be called out and
honestly according to YouTube and many
platforms to's that gets taken down for
being misleading and in some cases spam
as well so yeah this is again if if the
title and thumbnail was bad he backed it
up with 25 minutes of actual review
footage on why it was bad now because of
this scathing review there's been a bit
of fears that maybe the company could go
bankrupt and to be honest with you that
is really the fault of the actual
investors who decided to put money into
a company like this because again if you
saw the writing on the wall you would be
able to tell that an AI pin can easily
be replaced by literally any smartphone
in the market in the next few months
anyways if they decide to update and add
the same levels of artificial
intelligence to their device and it's
not really the responsibility of a
YouTube reviewer or anybody to give
something a positive review if you if
your product is [ __ ] it will be
reflected in the market it's as simple
as that not everything that has millions
of dollars behind it needs to succeed
let's be honest now obviously that
Humane AI pin threw me down a little bit
of a rabbit hole myself because I wanted
to see just how many of these devices
were coming out and of course speaking
of rabbit holes uh there's the rabbit R1
and again it's another one of these like
pin devices that you kind of have like a
camera it's all AI powered meaning that
it's a small little lightweight device
it captures uh you know sort of a query
sends it back to a server and comes back
to you as far as my knowledge goes which
is why a lot of these devices require
Wi-Fi and again most importantly
cellular functionality so again you look
at a lot of these right like these the
the functionalities and it's designed to
search uh play music ride share for
instance use generative Ai and of course
possibly for traveling things like
ticketing and again it also learns so
maybe it can do something Advanced later
on one of the things that somebody had
brought up on the Reddit was literally
could it be used for something like
ubering for instance so instead of
whipping out aell phone you type in a
location and then you Uber it right like
you open the Uber app you type in the
address you book The Thing what this
apparently can do is you ask it give me
the cheapest Uber or ride share to like
location a and I guess it'll do
everything for you which sounds really
neat on paper but again it's one of
those things where I don't think most
people would choose to purchase a device
solely for that digital AI assistant
okay I don't think it's used that much
now to be honest with you these devices
are kind of of like meaningless because
ultimately it's not as if Apple Google
Microsoft or any of these companies that
manufacture smartphones and smart
tablets and computer devices aren't
going to shoehorn AI in it anyways we're
literally I'd say a year an iOS upgrade
away before Apple gets Siri a massive AI
update meaning that at one point
whatever these devices are capable of
doing your Apple iPhone or your Apple
watch will soon do for you anyways and
those devices have a lot more
functionality than a goddamn AI pin
anyway same with Google same with anyone
what Marquees showed you with his camera
and taking a photo of the cybertruck is
partially one of the reasons why I don't
even have things like an Amazon Alexa or
a Google Voice a I value privacy but
also why would I choose to get a
microphone inside my house for something
that I could hold one button down on my
phone and just ask anyways these are
things some devices some products just
don't deserve to even have buyers they
are pointless products to begin with and
I'm sick and tired of sitting here and
pretending that we have to be nice to
every CEO and [ __ ] startup imaginable
sometimes your product is [ __ ] stupid
and if the audience reviews it as stupid
and the audience doesn't buy it that's
just that's just the market correcting
itself brother God damn now even reading
an actual like report from the Forbes
they actually had a discussed a research
paper from Cornell University and apple
in regards to a multimodal llm so again
a or a large action model and a lot of
this AI stuff is slowly being talked
about when it comes to Apple and again
it's already a part of a lot of android
devices anyway so Google has it from
their end and their services and this
could benefit like AI powered Siri
devices in the future so again it's only
a matter of time before these
smartphones that are already in your
hands do the exact same thing roughly as
these AI pens or these wearable AI agent
or assistants you know become now of
course mares threw himself into some
more hot water with those reviews which
actually makes me a mares viewer because
this is not one that I knew about this
is like a a mind this is a mind-blowing
situation so there's a car brand known
as Fisker okay and I actually what I I I
believe I even put like money down to
buy one of these because I thought they
were interesting looking cars until I
went to a showroom in um California and
I sat in one of these and I was like
whoa this thing is not that great for
the price first off it's got this shitty
solar roof design which is like you gain
maybe 5 miles a month in your car's
range but your car looks like an entire
solar roof it's literally there's no
point of having a moon roof if anything
the other reality of it is is when you
buy a car for thousands upon thousands
of dollars the onboard software should
not be laggy okay my experience the demo
showcase was laggy and that was one of
the reasons why I said whoa that is that
that that is a bullet Dodge so to speak
right godamn now of course this car is
in a pretty scary situation because
they've been going through a crap ton of
layoffs at the beginning of this year
apparently they were laying off 15% of
its Workforce and they actually warned
investors that they is a substantial
doubt it will have enough cash to make
it through
2024 so yeah it's not looking too good
for this company and I looked into why
they weren't doing too good and a lot of
people said that maris's review a month
ago which which Got 5 million views
apparently costus some real Schism in
fact Fisker even knew about this review
coming out and uh they were trying to
tell him wait for a software update to
which Maris is like I ain't waiting
[ __ ] I'm reviewing this thing as it is
and I watched this review as well and it
wasn't even that scathingly bad if
anything he was very critical of the
vehicle as he should be anyways
especially when you're reviewing a
product like I said when you are a
reviewer on the internet your only
relationship is between you and the
viewer and the trust you have between
them it's not between companies if they
were then you're not necessarily an
online personality you're just another
advertising Wing okay this is why if we
ever get a product here right like I
have an apple Vision review yes it's
coming I'm just not going to review it
like every person on the internet who
used it for 20 minutes and it's like wow
this thing is crazy I want to actually
use it for like over a month to get an
actual use case out of it get some
footage and talk about it pretty
extensively because do have a passion
for covering some of these things
especially VR stuff [ __ ] I used to sleep
in Minecraft for crying out loud so yeah
these are things that are important to
me and when covering it you have to
think about being honest because
ultimately it's the ethical thing to do
but if you are obviously reviewing
products for the audience you don't want
your audience to think this guy's just
going to shill every single product that
comes their way no if you're dishonest
people will not watch you so what's more
important even financially if you think
about it being honest and having a a
sizable fan base or getting a bag from
one company that may not even exist at
the end of the year so what's wild about
this situation with Fisker is even
before this review came out what I saw
was one of their Engineers who contacted
one of the people who loaned their car
over to Maris for this review and this
phone call 6 minutes of it we're not
going to watch it all but it is actually
insane listen to some of it good morning
George how are you sir good good who's
this
um my name is Russ Russ Whit I work for
FIS oh
okay how can I help
you well can I pull your fingernails out
and as part of an inquisition I've got
to ask you a couple of questions if you
don't mind no problem what's going
on so you sold or how many fiskers have
you bought so far so at this moment in
time our protagonist realizes oh [ __ ]
I'm getting a call from what like one of
the head field Engineers not looking too
good so then they start to basically
press this guy for information about
mares so listen to this it gets even
Wilder so you sold or how many fiskers
have you buy be appropriate for you to
share the vins with
me uh so we have a customer who we
believe bought a car from who's blowing
up social media and we're trying to
track him that's MK that's he's a famous
guy it's MK hbd what what's going on
um he's blowing up social media he's got
all the Senior Management from G Fisker
down because he's talking crap on the
Fisker right bro this guy's just like
blood dude okay you know if you're a
tech reviewer you can only strive to be
big enough so that the company you're
actually criticizing watches your video
in the [ __ ] boardroom it's insane
that they're trying to press this guy
for information about it when in reality
I watched all that review even the
follow-up that he made like a few days
ago and it was about honest as you can
get it was a vehicle that honestly was
missing the mark in a million places and
instead of shooting the messenger and
thinking damn we should be mindful of
these big giant CEOs in these companies
and your feelings now in reality if you
make a crappy product and people get
their hands on it I would rather watch a
tech reviewer that actually criticized
the product again it doesn't have to be
overly negative or overly positive just
honesty is all you ever want right like
for instance if I buy like a graphics
card which I do every right whenever
they release new stuff I'm not going to
buy one of the rules that I have when I
buy products is it can't be a sponsorhip
right like for instance the Apple Vision
Pro right like the headset uh we would
never have accepted it had it come from
Apple one of the rules that I have
usually with any of these sponsorships
and the very rare exceptions uh in the
sense that you know we actually have to
get a product from the company because
maybe it's not released uh is spend your
own money everything that I've ever
bought for this channel has been a
financial detriment to me okay if I buy
a RTX 490 if I buy the Apple Vision Pro
it's money that goes out of my pocket
it's money that in a lot of cases I
really am not even able to properly
write off either too just because of the
complexities of tax law and how much
that product can be used but it's not
about getting the money back or doing
anything in that nature it's the matter
of taking the same hit that you take in
buying a product and I personally
believe your perception of a product is
also judged by how much it financially
hurs hurt you right like if I got an
apple Vision Pro for free I would put
that headset on and say wow this thing
looks [ __ ] amazing it's great but now
that I paid thousands of dollars for it
almost five grand Canadian a little over
I can sit down and say yeah this thing
looks good for the price of a used car
so yeah it's a situation where obviously
I prefer honesty and watching this whole
thing go down has given me a lot of
respect for Maris and any Tech reviewer
in that space that chooses to keep their
integrity versus their relationship with
some of these Brands and I can
understand and wanting to keep a
relationship obviously if you're on a
blacklist for gaming or Tech then you
miss out on day one views you miss out
on the algorithms you miss out on being
a part of that inner circle that gets
access to talk about stuff sometimes
weeks in advance but if that's what
separates you from being an advertising
arm or a real personality then sometimes
I think no matter what the loss is it's
worth taking just for the relationship
you have with the fans but that said
ladies and gentlemen this is me mudahar
and yeah it's been a while last couple
days that I've been watching it man
never could imagine tech reviews would
piss off big Silicon Valley this hard
but yeah ladies and gentlemen if you
like what you saw please like comment
and subscribe dislike it if you dislike
it I am out
