lining so even though this is the worst

could find at the end of the build it's
going to one of you my viewers because

which means that I have to turn this
Audi which is the worst one ever into
the best Audi R8 you've ever

Audi V10 plus and this is going to be
well one part of a really really
interesting build because underneath
here wow that's kind of heavy is a 550
horsepower V10 and what's more
interesting is that behind this V10 is a
dual clutch transmission not the crappy
single clutch that's in our v8 car so
you can probably tell what's about to
happen we're going to take everything
from this car which is quite possibly
the best gen 1 Audi R8 ever made and
we're putting it into the wor worst gen
one Audi R8 ever made now before we
start taking this car apart and swapping
things we need to actually see what's
wrong with this car and there is a lot
wrong with this car because after all
it's a parts car and when I say we I
mean me and my friend
Jack Jack knows everything there is to
know about uh a crashed car and this is
a crashed car it it doesn't seem like it
from the back but um I guess that's good
because the engines in the back uh we
should this is good there's some not so
good over
there hold on hold on I I got it I got
it it's shut hold on hold on hold on
wait hold on hold
on there are some tolerances this is
what we like to call an oopsie yeah this
is where the wheel goes yeah this is
where the wheel went there's no wheel
there it went off in your expert opinion
is this repairable it is repairable but
the cost to repair this is the reason
why this got to out because it would
have to go on a jig you would have to
like cut all this structure out I can
tell just from the way the door pill uh
the door is sitting that the a pillar is
really far back you can see here where
the wheel just jammed into it so it got
hit here and then just went yeah it
crumpled everything here Push the door
back but what's crazy is that the
airbags didn't go off this this is a
pretty bad crash yeah I'm surprised they
didn't go off like they're I mean
literally it just it skimmed right by it
this is what people on eBay would call
easy fix
let's take this out all right this is
aluminum correct mhm and one thing that
you shouldn't do and this is something I
do know from Jack cuz he's taught me
this uh you don't pull aluminum nope um
aluminum is not something that you can
just heat up and pull on a frame machine
steel you can yeah um but with reason
too like steel like gives you certain
tolerances and certain Heats that you
can get to before you destroy the
molecules it but with aluminum if you
pull it a lot of the times these cars
are glued and riveted together so what
happens is you break that Bond
underneath and you don't even know and
now you just weaken the chassis or you
crack a weld something like that so
those are reasons why you don't pull
aluminum I think I can probably
demonstrate to you how this works what
happens in an accident is you see this
right here if you try to unbend this
paper clip it becomes what's called work
hardened and if you y see
look look how easy that was super easy
yeah if you try to heat this up and bend
it back that's all that's going to
happen so you just create a giant weak
point and now your car is no good but
with steel it's it's a lot more
forgivable with aluminum you'd have to
have brand new panels and you have to
cut it back as far as you can and then
put new ones in the only reason I know
this is because he did this on the
Ferrari that's the only reason I know
this all right guys so I don't know if
you've noticed but in the last year or

stock exhaust it doesn't doesn't really
make much noise does it seems a bit like

know they just told me not to so I don't
do it you know I have I'm a Lamborghini
but I have neighbors you know I get up

R8 V8 to V10 swaero number one we're
going to take apart the v8 car meaning
that we have to take off
bumpers Wheels axles fluids side panels
quarters and then pull engine and then
uh we have to do this whole
thing in Reverse in reverse order and
we're going to do it
all

go we started the tear down by carefully
removing the huge carbon fiber

catch and then we remov the back hatch
which seemed to be made of depleted
uranium oh why is this so
heavy this is like the heaviest part of

is thankfully the rest of the car was a
little more

along with the tail lights and then the
gigantic Muffler section could be
remove and since we were experts this
step was

pretty unique in that the rear quarter
panel isn't welded on it's bolted which
makes taking the car apart much much
easier however since this car was
handled by a few shade tree mechanics we
did find some modifications I don't
think this is Factory uh I mean small
chance it could be but uh the rusty
washer and ton of RTV silicone here
so look at that I don't think this is
how it's supposed to go now that we have
this off I don't know what this is uh
we're going to try to take the quarter
panels off once the quarter panels are
off then we can go underneath remove a
bunch of stuff and then the engine comes
out the top I swear I've done this at
least once before 3 two 1
pull oh there we go oh it's so heavy
look at that look at that look that dude
this looks look at that we should just
leave it like this you should just look
at
it has this had any accident damage or
anything it looks like it got like
bumped here but nothing major okay let's
just up a little bit like we can bend
that back down if it doesn't break
hopefully so we have oil cooler over
there we got
intake um we got this is gas tank right
that plastic thing y cool so that's gas
tank hopefully that's the
same throughout car oh no the gas tanks
are probably going to be different
aren't they yeah so the in cabin air
filter that's the same so that's good I
think somebody is going to get a really
really really nice car absolutely yeah
this is going to be like awesome all we
do is piss excellence and we're pretty
much the greatest thing since sliced
bread yeah um so you're welcome you're
welcome can you see this is perfection

right what do I do with my hands hate to
say it this is starting to look like the
P1 project
that's what we do here uh so we take
cars that look like cars and then we
turn them into shells and then we just
leave them

watching taking apart the passenger side
was almost exactly like the driver's
side other than the addition of the fuel
filler

door once the carbon side blade was
removed we removed the side skirt which
was held on with about 30 bolts which is
about three times as many as you'd
actually

need we put the car in the air removed
the wheels and sway bar and brought the
car all the way up to drain the
fluids but then we noticed some more of
the previous owner's
handiwork uh I wanted to admire the
handiwork here um because not only did
they paint the uh parking brake caliper
but the caliper here and also the the
line and also uh some of the rotor right
here and they also left some tape so at
least they taped stuff off it's covered
up it's good good yeah it's good it's
good this I can guarantee you this only
took 30 minutes to spray these okay uh
so there's a there's a little inside
joke because uh on my McLaren uh we
wanted to paint the brake calipers in
time for SEMA and Jack was like hey it's
only going to take 30 minutes to paint
them and he was right only took 30
minutes to paint the caliper it took him
6 hours to mask everything off I had to
prep everything didn't want to get
anything on the nice shiny paint yeah so
you didn't want anything like this uh so
thank you very much Jack cuz I this is
this is a terrible terrible terrible job
uh so look at that feel that lip though
pretty bad that lip is really good oh
wow the pad has dug into well the pad on
this has dug into the rotor so much that
it's created a lip and you don't have
any more really usable surface here and
it's probably the same way all around
yeah so we're going to have to get new
brake discs we're definitely going to
have to uh get these repainted because
they're painted like absolute garbage
yeah so maybe in a different color we'll
definitely have them powder Co um but
that's good we have the side panels off
now we got to lift the car up and a cool
thing is that this car has BC racing
coilovers so look at that they're all
adjustable you have adjustable um uh
dampening right here and you have the
ride height adjustable here so we can
adjust this to whatever we want and it
looks like it's in really good shape so
there haven't been any other things that
are like big issues on this car so far
nothing glaring no uh it's just
superficial outside stuff mhm and uh you
know South Florida stuff yeah yeah it's
just been really really badly taken care
of so uh we're going to put the car in
the air and take out all the fluids
whatever's left of them cuz a lot of it
just leaked out into the floor anyway
and then uh then we can take the engine
out yeah that's it I we are making good
progress don't say oh my God don't say
that making good do not say that we're
going to make it to SEMA with this car
okay let's don't do

take a look at this like look how look
how oily how oily this is this engine
was out of the car because they had to
reseal it and do some timing work and
they screwed up whoever had this car
before and then they just plopped the
engine in and then sold the car as
running even though it was never running
um and it was leaking all over the place
I've never had this car running and it's
look how much it leaks like it's I
remember we left it for you know a while
and then there was just a giant pool of
oil remember that yes we just moved it
and it was like w got so nervous so so
when you say they resealed it what did
they reseal nothing uh they they
resealed it with uh I don't know some
some Laffy Taffy Maybe I yeah this is
all back here yeah leaking from like
every seal that is pouring out yeah
which is interesting uh fun fact this um
transmission is exactly the same as you
would get in a manual like the Gated
manual it's just that they replace all
the uh manual components with electronic
ones uh but the gearbox itself is
exactly the same so in theory you could
take this gearbox and just convert a
bunch of stuff to manual and then get a
manual shifter and you'll have a manual
car uh now I have never done that before
I mean I've never done that on one of
these cars so you know your mileage may
vary on how easy that is but in theory
that should be that should be okay this
is really crazy oily um I don't I used
to have gloves where' my gloves go where
did my gloves go why did I take the
gloves off so you have this engine
transmission is right here but then the
uh there's a drive shaft that goes
actually in between uh there's like a
rod um or a shaft that goes in the
engine and it's on what
okay and then that goes into the drive
shaft right here and that goes all the
way up here to the front differential
that splits the power to the front end
and I believe you only have about 30%
Drive uh power to the front axles which
makes sense because this is a rear
wheeel drive biased car um now a really
cool thing that you could do and maybe
we could do it I don't know is if we
just eliminate this front-wheel drive
stuff Al together and then just make it
a real drive car what do you
think I think we should keep I mean as
the hot boy guy I mean if you want to
get like crazy fun with it you know yeah
yeah or or yeah we're putting a 550
horsepower engine into a car that never
had it and we should probably keep the
all-wheel drive and also if the person
that wins this wants to do something to
their car they can always do that later
yeah yeah yeah that'd be a better option
okay all right that's fine that's fine

okay so cool thing about this engine is
that it has a dry sump oil tank meaning
that the oil isn't kept on the bottom of
the engine it's actually kept in a tank
offside the engine meaning that if
you're in a high G Turn you're not going
to have any issues with pressure because
you know the oil is sloshing from one
side to side it's like race car tech uh
unfortunately this has so many leaks
that I don't even know how much oil is
in the tank itself let's let's see it
should have some oil actually most of
the
oil
sweet
um so this should have like a few
gallons of
oil I think most of the oil just went on
my
fingers it it
looks it's clean yeah it looks like it's
been I don't think this engine has been
started since they rebuilt it you know
that's some fresh oil that's that's
terrible that's really bad this is what
happens when you have a super car and
you're like oh my my buddy can do it for
cheaper yeah yeah he can he can yeah
yeah he did he did he clearly

with the rear calipers off and the rest
of the rear end slowly but surely coming
apart we crossed the last items off our
24 minute build and started on tackling
the actual engine

that meant pulling the wiring harness
from the inside of the car into the
engine bay a step not usually necessary
in most mid-engine cars but mandatory in
an Audi

R8 and yes this is just as tedious as it
looks
it's crazy that this is a necessary part
of the engine process these zip ties are
like made of razor wire the first time I
did this on an Audi R8 it was a manual
car and it didn't have the the harness
for the automatic transmission but this
one does so there's like
extra big chungus
wiring there we go there we go okay all
right look at

that harness out that was
easy I think I got sweat in my

eye
look at that look at this right here
look oh my I've never seen this before
it's totally stuck right here and it's
bending the actual aluminum
hub wo yeah how yeah in your face so
this is going to be uh available on our
eBay store it's lightly used um you know
it's still good for many many more miles
uh it's uh it's a racing part so there
you go only slight gouges here from uh
from Jack free paint yeah and and some
free
paint
so the dry sump oil tank was the next
thing to be removed this thing helps
maintain good oil pressure through high
speed cornering and also allows the
engine to be mounted lower in the
chassis which ultimately improves
handling now just when you think you
removed everything from the engine there
are always a few lines hoses or cables
still connected so it's really really
important to double and triple check
your
work and as it turned out we had a few
coolant and oil lines still tied to the

chassis so after quite a bit of fiddling
and farting around we were ready to
connect the engine

hoist the engine in an Audi R rate comes
out of the top of the car rather than
the bottom unlike most high performance
supercars because it doesn't have a
removable subframe everything in the
back of the car for the most part is
welded on which gives the chassis a ton
of strength but can make servicing quite
difficult once the engine hoist was
connected and we weren't in any danger
of losing a limb we carefully tried to
free the engine from its
home moment of many truths we shall lift
this out of its home

good oh it's moving oh my goodness it is
moving it's coming out of it uh hole
there so I just have to go
high yeah Oh no you're um no keep
going go pull that line right there that
is our uh that is our
connection that hasn't been disconnected
so if we take that off from the
side um then it should come out this is
pretty crazy I mean you have to
understand this is still like the base
model of a car and there's still so much
stuff and right here is the computer um
portion of the transmission this is what
makes everything shift um this is the uh
computerized single clutch manual and
it's just this giant box on top and
there's there's hydraulic line and all
this crap coming out of there and all of
it is unnecessary because that
technology is

dead after making yet another mess with
the hydraulic line removal I removed the
positive battery cable attached to the
starter and as far as I could tell we
were home
free

haa look at
that M and that is how we take the
engine out of an Audi R8 I'm also going
to pray that the V10 is going to fit in
that hole one of the reasons I don't
like using these straps is because
there's no good way to to lower them
down uh gently but you just do one of
these and then
should
y there we go it's good it's good so now
that we got everything in the back of
the car taken apart and when I mean
everything I just mean the engine we
still have a lot of work to do uh we
have to pay some attention to the front
of the car and um I've never done that
I've only worked on the back of these
things but uh Jack has I've worked on
the front of these and they are fun very
fun actually they're not and uh there's
a lot of stuff on this that we need to
figure out what is going on like we know
there's damage to This Hood like if you
look right here I don't know if it's
visible on camera but the hood has been
cracked and it's kind of like you know
like flaking away with the paint it's
got some bodyw work up here so what I'm
concerned about is if this has been
fixed and it got hit and it compressed
any of this skeleton that's underneath
here because if it is then it's going to
be a kind of a pain in the butt to make
this bumper line up and it might just be
really compressed in there fingers
crossed it's not so I think we're good I
I think Jack needs to be a little bit
more optimistic because uh this
definitely does not look like it's been
in an accident it's hit a bunch of curbs
and stuff but I don't think it's been
like majorly majorly compromised you
should show them what we keep finding
cuz we keep finding little surprises and
things like that that are not good you
know little things here and there that
are they're not great yeah they're
adding up yeah they they they do add up
so you got that right there um you have
a bunch of damage down here and then
well you have things like I don't know
if you guys can see but there is yeah
there we go uh there is a a sensor here
that is just straight up disconnected
this the ride height sensor so that's
not good so that adds up to a car that
has been very very much neglected uh but
I I think the course of action now will
be to take everything off and when I
mean everything I mean every like Nut
and Bolt from this car I thought this
was going to be a quick build bro it is
going to be a quick build 24 minutes 24
minutes 24 minute build uh we're taking
every last nut and bolt off an Audi R8
uh okay let's get let's get to it let's
go let's do
it
the front end was a lot like the rear
end of the car just without an engine in
the way we took off the giant Hood then
remove the front
bumper and that's when we discovered
something a little less than
ideal
welcome everyone to my favorite game
which is called Freddy was wrong and
Jack was right uh we have a little bit
of a Shiner I don't like to you know I
don't like to say it like that cuz I
mean it makes me feel like I'm like you
know really smart I'm not you know I
mean not I like to smile on your face
like I don't like to say it like that
but you
know so Jack called it immediately he
said this car was hit in the front and
uh once we took off the bumper we
realized the car was hit in the front so
we have a dent right here this this is
pushed in and this um rear uh sort of uh
radiator assembly uh support that's also
slightly pushed back and none of that is
good especially if you want a car that
is 100% um like OEM fit and finish and
everything so we're going to have to get
a new one of these new one of these and
maybe even a new radiator here because
um it looks a little bit like it's
dented back I don't I don't know I can't
tell what do you think Jack it's it's
like slightly pushed back but it doesn't
look terrible like it doesn't look like
it's got like you know a big bow in it
and I think that's just a cooler right
like is that a is yeah so that's that's
a cooler yeah like it's a oil cooler or
something or uh it might be for coolant
um so I think what we're going to do is
we're going to check on the other car
see if it's okay maybe swap those out
but worst case scenario we're going to
have to replace everything in the front
but everything else looks pretty okay
right we did find that one thing though
yeah this is true yeah just take take a
look at this take a look at that uh here
let me shine a light on that yeah can
can you
uh well there's your problem so that's a
tie rod and it's supposed to be straight
and it's not I think when this car was
sat at some yard uh then it was probably
yanked with you know a chain or
something to to get on a flatbed and
they just yanked the hell out of that
tie rod and bent it and uh that's going
to need to be replaced and that's the
inner tie rod not the outer tie rod so
the inner tie rod going into the uh
steering rack is going to have to be
replaced because the inner tire rod on
that car is missing cuz it just got
smashed got yeed off in the accident
yeah so we're not reusing any of that um
but okay now we got the front end taken
apart and we see that everything is in
pretty decent working order uh we got to
we got to tackle the middle of the car
right yeah we should take out the doors
some interior and uh and then see what's
see see how far see how far it's gone I
think we've pretty much uncovered all of
the old bad work I think now it's you
know basically getting the interior out
but then uh I think we should when we
strip everything we should take this car
outside and then uh we should pressure
wash it yes and when I say we I mean
Rex I don't even know why I'm here

since we had to move the car off the
lift to remove the doors we had to
temporarily install the used brake
rotors and wheels to roll the car

forward unlike most Japanese and
American cars the Audi R8 uses lug bolts
instead of lug nuts it's a bit harder to
line up with the wheel but pretty easy
to do up once you get the hang of

it Jack and I removed both doors without
taking them apart there are two locating
pins and one electrical connection and
they come right
[Music]
out and with the car completely stripped
it was time to take the R8 for a walk to
get a good pressure
[Music]
wash but not before Jack noticed some
other choice mods the previous owners
had
installed they uh blacked it out which
actually doesn't look that bad but I was
looking at it and I was like I wonder if
this will just peel right off and sure
enough comes right off so figured might
as well just take it off I'm going to
prep it later anyway
so dude this this car is starting to
come out starting to look
good I'm super stoked that the front
end's not bad it's just you know little
damaged so good thing is all all the
parts that we need that are usable on
the front of this one are good so this
car should uh one and done 24 hours
a car this dirty needed a heavyduty
clean and Rex used G Technic Citrus
all-purpose cleaner and a 2,000 psi
pressure washer to make short work of
the

gratuitous use of the foam
