Transcripts
let me finish first but every time we
hear those talking points that suddenly
it was Republicans who ruined the Border
that's why people get so frustrated we
know what President Biden said about
inviting people in we know that he got
rid of all the things that were keeping
the Border closed that President Trump
had put in we know that he got rid of
all those so when you say it's not his
fault literally not true it's literally
not true that he got rid of did you see
separation did you see 72 million people
come in during the trump administra it
was a trickle he got rid of the policy
to tear children out of the arms of
their parents that's true but it is not
true uh some of the other things that
that have been suggested let's be btis
part why there a place in 2015 2006 I
mean literally since the Reagan
Administration right there have been
bipartisan efforts to get something done
here but I really believe we've gotten
to the point where many congressional
Republicans find it so useful as a cudel
that they would rather keep the problem
going for political uses than solve the
problem uh and risk the chance that the
president could share in the credit for
that in the same way that that you know
we see some of them even though we had
great bipartisan cooperation on the
infrastructure bill that I work on uh a
lot of them who were against that only
to turn around and try to get credit for
when we actually have a ribbon cutting
or groundbreaking I I just the reason
that some of these numbers stay where
they are is because it it it just seems
like instead of actually owning some of
the issues that we have instead of
acknowledging that the president maybe
has lost a step the administration keeps
saying don't believe Your Lying Eyes and
and that's why
you're that's why you're at 18
respectfully I think Congressional
Republicans are saying don't believe
Your Lying Eyes which is why they're
pulling at about 15% right now I know
Congress is
never Congress isn't running economic
numbers president is it My Lying Eyes
that that under Joe Biden we've had the
most job creation in American history is
it My Lying Eyes telling us that
unemployment and inflation are both
below 4% and have been that way for the
longest time in who knows well when is
it reality or is it spin to point out
the fact that manufacturing jobs are up
under this President and we're down
under the last president these are
matters of simple fact when we heard for
three years The Border's closed and it's
secure
and said it's it's closing and 7.2
million people have come into where our
big cities have no idea how to handle
this and from the administration here's
the thing this is is really important
this is really important okay the common
sense position and the position that by
the way a lot of moderate uh Democrats
and uh moderate Republicans would always
say the kinds of things that you hear uh
at the Chamber of Commerce in in Indiana
where I come from is that there ought to
be more legal immigration and less
illegal immigration and yet when there's
a chance to actually do that that's not
what happened the last Administration
cut legal immigration and meanwhile uh
our uh economy is pulling people just as
much as terrible conditions in Latin
America are pushing people and when
there's finally a bipartisan compromise
that would help address at least some of
those issues Congressional Republicans
couldn't get it done because Donald
Trump who's not even an elected office
killed it that is a fact that uh we'll
see whether whether this uh moves the
needle uh I I just think you know the
American public just want something that
benefits them they just don't want to
hear so uh that what they see isn't
happening the sector but we appreciate
your time and we'll be watching on uh on
Thursday night tell you what if you were
wondering why Donald Trump and
Republicans were so hellbent on blocking
the Border bill it is this moment right
here it's so that right-wing hosts can
go on TV and wh that nothing is getting
accomplished at the border because cuz
apparently they were all born yesterday
and don't remember how 5 minutes ago it
was the Democrats who tried to fix it
this is Joe Kern making sure that all of
that stonewalling and obstruction by
Republicans is paying off one TV segment
at a time keep in mind too that the
Border Bill endorsed by Joe Biden and
written by the way by Conservative
Republican James Langford didn't even
include any immigration reform it was
solely a border Bill a concession
offered because it included Aid to
Ukraine which the Congress may very well
pass on its own right now meaning that
while for years Republicans wouldn't do
a border bill because they didn't want
to also swallow immigration reform now
when they had the opportunity to get
everything they wanted and nothing they
didn't still they said no because it's
not about finding Solutions it is about
entrenching problems Republicans do not
want to fix anything they want to point
at things that are broken to help
themselves at The Ballot Box and Joe
Kern is either a useful idiot in this
scheme or a co-conspirator in the scheme
but either way he is doing his viewers a
disservice notice too how he claims as
part of his frothing rant that Joe Biden
has lost a step or two here's what I
find so interesting about all of these
right-wing mouthpieces they love
suggesting that Joe Biden isn't up for
the job that he is currently excelling
at is he not up for the job when he just
adds 15 million jobs to the US economy a
record for any president in 3 years is
he not up for the job when he resides
over the longest stretch of sub 4%
unemployment in half a century is he not
up for the job when he passes the
infrastructure bill which was reduced to
a punchline during the Trump
Administration the first gun safety law
in 30 years the biggest climate
investment in the history of this
country allowing the government to
finally negotiate lower drug prices
getting veterans Healthcare after the
effort was blocked by Republicans a
record high stock market surging
consumer sentiment sinking inflation
increasing wage growth these guys from
the peanut gallery are all out here
wondering whether Biden can do it
without looking at what is quite
literally right in front of them and I
know that it is damn near impossible to
find members of the media who are
actually willing to say this but when we
do have those people we should highlight
them which is why I'm glad that Jen saki
said this on her show the economy is
current currently has a 3.7%
unemployment rate 3.1% inflation with a
stock market near record highs I'm
asking this sincerely can you articulate
one thing just one that Donald Trump has
done or would do to make the economy
better or your life
better okay while I'm waiting let's talk
about concerns about corruption that you
might be basing your choice on we've
heard a lot about corruption despite
Relentless accusations from Donald Trump
and republicans in Congress they have
come up with nothing zero to pin on Joe
Biden it is a fever dream it's meant to
muddy the waters and distract from
Donald Trump's four criminal indictments
the half a billion dollars he owes for
business fraud and sexual assault and
the coup we all watched him attempt at
real time and while for every one of her
there are 10 old white guys spewing
Republican talking points the more we
can actually normalize acknowledging
objective reality and pointing to the
accomplishments that we all know Trump
and Republicans would kill for the
better I should note too this isn't the
first time that Pete disc schooled Joe
Kern on his own show here is another
recent example I don't want to uh I
don't want to make you mad or anything
and we're having a nice conversation but
but just talking about inflation it's
coming down now and the administration
and President Biden is going to take
credit for for for coming down my only
question is whenever we talked about it
in the past it it was never anyone's
fault that inflation uh was bad here
from there wasn't the the spending
during Co it was the entire Globe it's
around the globe it's around we can't
it's it's Putin it's a Putin price we we
can't do anything about it it's
inflation it's Global but now that it's
coming down it's like look what I did I
brought inflation down is that that that
makes no sense it's not logically
consistent I I don't think that's quite
fair for a couple of reasons first of
all these International comparisons yes
we pointed out that you know inflation
in the United States was not something
that was just happening in the United
States it was happening around the world
but we also pointed out all the ways
that we were doing better than a lot of
our peers around the world that was true
in terms of our economic growth being
really the fastest among the wealthy
countries recovering from Co and I think
it's true now in terms of us doing
better in the fight against inflation
than other countries the other thing is
you know whenever we were getting hit
with those questions about what are you
doing on inflation we responded with the
recipe the things that we were doing
that we think would make a difference so
I think it's totally fair game
especially since a year ago we said
we're doing this inflation reduction act
and some people said your inflation
reduction Act is going to lead to
inflation going up I think it's really
important now that inflation's going
down to point out like hey okay here's
what happened we had a problem with
inflation we passed an inflation
reduction act inflation is going down I
how can we not point to that sequence of
events even
while there's a lot of things not been
has anything been implemented yet in in
the ira I don't we we couldn't be seeing
the benefits of something that hasn't
even happened yet well look it it's
definitely you know people were saying
that this is going to cause markets
immediately to respond by moving in
directions that are going to be
inflationary obviously that didn't
happen but the other thing I'd point to
is the short and medium term work that
we've done as an Administration
addressing things that we know
contribute to inflation so in my world
for example in the transportation space
we've talked a lot about supply chain
issues right and making sure that we
make the the short medium and long-term
Investments you you deal with the supply
chain issues that helps keep shipping
costs down shipping costs are part of
what led to inflation and and I do think
some of the work we've done there is
paying off that's not a mission
accomplished kind of thing you know
whether we're talking about inflation at
large or whether we're talking about
Supply chains specifically we still have
a lot of issues on everything from
multimodal Freight and and rail to
Shoring up the truck industry to getting
our ports where they need to be but look
at where we are compared to where we
were a year or two ago and I think
that's paying off again more right-wing
talking points about how this
Administration shouldn't get credit when
it comes to inflation coming down in
other words the entire right-wing media
ecosystem decided that it was Biden's
fault when inflation went up and as it
did around the entire world the
difference is that while the whole world
was contending with inflation how a
country's leadership dealt with that
Global issue would determine what
happened next the global inflation rate
last year was 14% the US had 8%
inflation and that number plummeted down
even further to 3% now meanwhile most of
the world has a worse rate than that
including the gop's personal favorite
dictatorship of Russia whose rate is
almost double that of the US in other
words Republicans are quick to lay the
blame for a global phenomenon but refuse
to give credit when it comes to actually
tackling an issue like inflation which
the US did better than the vast majority
of the planet on convenient huh so good
on Pete for pushing back on these
talking points and more importantly
meeting the voters where they are and
where otherwise they would only be
consuming right-wing talking points it
is clear that the gop's media apparatus
is wide but it's shallow and it caves as
soon as it's faced with even mild push
