Q & A

huh all right ladies and gentlemen

00:06

welcome to another episode of junkyard

00:08

digs on today's episode we're Reviving a

00:10

94 Ford Ranger now I know that might

00:13

seem like completely normal traffic and

00:15

not something that fits our Channel at

00:17

all but not only was this the truck I

00:18

grew up in but this is the one I later

00:20

drove to high school it blew a

00:22

transmission sometime in college and

00:24

it's been sitting waiting for me to find

00:26

a very specific transmission ever since

00:28

then and we have one and it's time to

00:31

bring this out of the weeds and put it

00:33

back on the road let's see what it takes

00:34

to do a '90s EFI Revival this is the

00:37

future happening

00:43

now before we get started here let's

00:45

pump the brakes a little bit and talk

00:46

about this 94 STX and the history it has

00:49

in my family in the fall of 2002 my dad

00:52

picked up this cheap Ford Ranger that

00:54

had been crushed by a tree and was in

00:56

need of some Bodywork having done that

00:58

his whole life this was no problem dad

01:00

stripped the truck apart I of course

01:01

helped and soon enough the truck was

01:03

back together and on the road once again

01:05

for years dad drove this thing back and

01:07

forth every day to work and I remember

01:08

it driving around for the majority of my

01:10

childhood however after years of service

01:12

the ranger got parked due to some issues

01:14

and forgotten about in the front yard

01:16

for about 6 years until one day I needed

01:18

a truck to make it to school and work so

01:20

I did my first Revival out of pure

01:22

necessity and put the ranger back on the

01:24

road for the next 3 years I drove the

01:27

out of this truck I put on easily

01:29

20 ,000 Mi hauling everything from

01:31

motorcycles to four-wheelers to whole

01:34

golf carts in the back of the truck if

01:35

it wasn't romping down the gravel or

01:37

sideways in the snow there was a good

01:38

chance it was a couple feet off the

01:40

ground okay we're going to jump the

01:41

ranger we're doing 45 here we go oh

01:45

oh that was a poor decision oh

01:49

my God in the winter of 2017 while on a

01:51

trip back from college in the ranger it

01:53

unfortunately ran out of transmission

01:55

fluid from a leak I had not detected and

01:57

inevitably burned up the front bearing

02:00

had the transmission out the year prior

02:01

for a slave cylinder so I didn't think

02:03

it'd be that big of a deal but as it

02:04

turns out I could not find a

02:06

transmission for this truck in fact it

02:08

took me 3 years to find one locally and

02:11

affordable during those 3 years of

02:12

course our YouTube stuff kicked off I

02:14

got bigger more dependable trucks to

02:15

haul trailers and the ranger sat

02:17

forgotten once again in the backyard

02:20

it's been 10 years since I did the first

02:22

Survival on this truck and after sitting

02:24

for another s it's time for the second

02:26

let's get this sucker to the shop and

02:27

put the ranger back on the road

02:40

okay there we go uglier than I remember

02:42

it the paint has not held up well to

02:45

sitting outside since 2017 I looked it

02:48

up so it's been ooh it's been 7 years

02:51

since

02:52

2017 that don't sound right ooh I

02:55

wondered bastard's got my

02:57

registration doing a Revival on my own

02:59

own car I got old like this looks like

03:03

we pull out of a barn they ate my

03:05

1994 Ranger manual this is weird like

03:08

usually we pull this stuff out and they

03:09

like oh when was it last registered uh

03:12

to me in

03:15

2017 I'm old enough to have my own Barn

03:18

fine level Vehicles ow look at this look

03:21

at this old

03:24

receipts with my own signature on them

03:27

they're all crinkled up and look like

03:28

they've been in a barn for 30 years

03:30

oh that's from the time I got to go

03:33

up with the golden knights at drill one

03:34

time in Davenport when they came to the

03:36

air show and they stole my patch when

03:38

they jumped out the window or the door

03:40

in the back of the plane it was really

03:42

cold plus thr some power out this to

03:44

make sure everything or anything still

03:45

works oh we got some

03:48

sparkies let's see if anything comes to

03:50

life inside it's got fuel well okay the

03:54

clock is on the clock is on let's find a

03:58

good flavor of copyright music please

04:00

thank

04:01

you

04:04

rebird oh yeah oh this is

04:08

happening the Rangers coming back baby

04:12

is poetic for the last 7 years this

04:14

truck has essentially been listening to

04:16

just the beginning of the song of

04:17

Freebird and now that it's ready to get

04:19

back on the road the fun part starts all

04:21

right let's get this some in the

04:22

air and get a transmission in it oh I'm

04:24

so excited all right here's all our

04:27

Hardware sorted out as you can see it's

04:29

been in in better shape before so we're

04:31

going to have to do a little clean up

04:32

guessing those are bell housing uh I

04:35

don't know what these are sure we'll

04:36

figure that out no idea what the eight

04:38

of these are we got big nuts small nuts

04:40

and then I'm assuming that's crossmember

04:42

before we put the new transmission in we

04:44

wanted to take the time to take the old

04:45

clutch out and put a new one in its

04:47

place on a freshly turned flywheel Angus

04:49

popped our clutch off I removed the

04:51

flywheel and threw it on the bpack

04:52

combination brake LA and got to work at

04:54

turning the surface all right so we've

04:56

been saying it for years you finally get

04:57

to see it yes the ranger B combination

05:00

brake lth that does flywheels as well as

05:02

drums and

05:15

discs oh

05:17

yeah making a big difference already

05:20

sure those spots is hitting they hot

05:23

spots that the flut is like Harden the

05:25

metalon you'll see them after this pass

05:27

it's pretty crazy all right there's our

05:29

first pass done see all these right here

05:33

these shiny spots that's where the

05:35

clutch has gotten hot and Harden the

05:37

metal and you can hear it when you're

05:38

cutting it it cuts way slower right here

05:40

and you can feel it it's way higher so

05:43

we got to do a few more passes until all

05:45

those hot spots are gone then we'll have

05:47

a properly resurfaced flywheel let's run

05:50

her

05:55

again hey hey hey there we go that looks

05:59

fantastic you love to see it getting

06:01

some more life out of old Parts no

06:03

reason to replace that at all but it

06:05

definitely did need resurfaced that way

06:07

when we get a new one of these it can

06:09

sit on there and mate properly and get

06:11

the most performance out of it with our

06:13

flywheel done we reinstalled it po the

06:15

old pilot bearing out and put a new one

06:17

in its place once that was out of the

06:18

way we were ready to hang the new clutch

06:20

and get ready for the trans install this

06:23

has a concentric slave which is around

06:26

the input shaft which means if your

06:27

slave cylinder goes out you get to pull

06:29

the whole transmission out of the truck

06:31

we replaced the clutch so that we never

06:32

have to take this off and do this again

06:33

we're going to do the same thing with

06:34

the slave cylinder this one might be

06:36

just fine but a new one 60 bucks to

06:38

confirm that I hopefully never have to

06:40

take this off and do this again so let's

06:41

go ahead pop this guy off and boltt a

06:43

new one in place all right two 10 mm

06:45

head bolts this should slide straight

06:48

out now it's time to install the new one

06:50

this is a very difficult task take

06:53

notes installed good job this why I pay

06:56

you the big bucks oh yeah oh good news

06:58

Angus it's already done so these plugs

07:02

right here which are supposed to look

07:03

like this three rubber plugs on these

07:06

m5s they shrink from the transmission

07:08

fluid and they start to leak eventually

07:10

you'll get low on fluid in this case

07:12

someone's been in here I mean we got r2v

07:14

all over this output chunk here and

07:17

someone's already done the mod and

07:19

hammered in some Welsh plugs Little

07:21

Frost plug looking deals you can get

07:22

them on eBay but that's already been

07:24

done so thankfully this sucker is ready

07:26

to go in Sweet let's hang it I'm so

07:29

ready for this this I've never been more

07:30

ready for anything in my life all right

07:32

let's hang a transmission usually I

07:34

would do this rolling around on the

07:35

ground bleeding and cussing in a garage

07:37

that was about 2T wider than the whole

07:39

truck so for the first time ever this

07:42

might go pretty okay good good just a

07:45

bit down a little bit there clear okay

07:48

straighten

07:52

up oh

07:56

yeah how would you ever turn this on the

07:58

ground I don't know dude awful okay

08:01

we're

08:06

there all right go for it oh did it what

08:10

what did we do oh we pushed on

08:12

it well I'm not going to lie that sucked

08:15

but that was by far the easiest and

08:17

fastest this transmission's ever gone in

08:19

this truck when and doubt have a friend

08:21

if you don't have friends buy one so to

08:23

get these top bastards on these Rangers

08:26

though it's best to just let the whole

08:27

trans and everything sag don't try to

08:30

support it or else it'll be impossible

08:31

to get those top bolts but these are the

08:34

exact tools I mentioned this in the last

08:35

video but I bought these long extensions

08:37

to do the transmission my Ranger in high

08:39

school what you want to do is you want

08:40

to go over the top of the transmission

08:42

and reach way up front and grab the bell

08:44

housing that's the best way to uh

08:47

tighten these guys and loosen them now

08:50

you're older and uglier and

08:52

start okay two more from the front we're

08:55

ready to move on to the next component

08:57

which is probably starter and and all

08:59

the wiring all right got a brand new

09:02

starter to go on mostly because we can't

09:04

find the old one that is the one thing

09:06

we lost the starter and one of these

09:08

bolts on these replacement starters you

09:10

have to cut the Old Wire and crimp and

09:13

heat shrink the new connector on because

09:15

apparently the old wires were known for

09:17

causing some issues and issues being

09:19

fires so while I continued assembling

09:22

things underneath the truck and get

09:23

started working on our brakes those look

09:26

fun they are not super fun for some Reas

09:29

reason this driver side front brake line

09:31

going to the caliper shares a t block

09:35

with the other front brake line so

09:38

that's it is the union between the two

09:39

it is the union the hose is the union

09:42

it's big silly on the right side you've

09:44

had a pretty substantial leak of

09:46

something over the years and it's kept

09:48

these nice and free I didn't even

09:49

struggle you got to love a good I'm

09:51

assuming power steering leak eventually

09:53

we were able to hang the transfer case

09:55

and install the front and rear drive

09:57

shaft this is one of the few projects

09:58

I've ever done with I can compare doing

10:00

this with a lift and on the floor and

10:01

our B pack two poost lift was making

10:03

this inconceivably easier uh dad cut the

10:06

cat off don't worry I went through with

10:09

the die grinder and put in two plates so

10:11

that it's all powered oriented shaped

10:15

it's ConEd I I can see the weld marks on

10:18

the inside so what we got she's only got

10:20

a buck 45 so I got to got to get what I

10:22

can out of it I didn't come to work

10:24

ready to deal with this today but this

10:26

is threaded pipe again wasn't me that

10:30

was Dad di through the scrap pile cuz

10:32

the cat fell off all right the exhaust

10:34

is on a little bit of a fight and to

10:36

clean up some threads but we got her

10:37

done Angus has a new line on this side

10:40

he's tightening her down good luck to

10:42

you sir thanks I have attacked this

10:45

rotor with the wire wheel clean up the

10:47

surfaces a little bit these should Del

10:49

glaze and start working just fine I am

10:52

going to knock these slide pins out and

10:55

uh clean up and regrease the caliper

10:58

slide cuz I me they probably move but

11:00

they probably won't love it so get these

11:03

off all you got to do is get a

11:06

punch and punch these guys

11:11

out again since these are basically

11:13

brand new they came out really easy you

11:15

know what's funny back in the day on

11:17

study hall in high school I would go sit

11:19

in a computer lab and look at videos of

11:22

how to fix stuff on this truck and learn

11:24

stuff about how to repair things on cars

11:27

and stuff now here I am years later

11:30

making those videos who to

11:32

thk what a wild world that's why I try

11:35

to do the best I can to teach you guys

11:37

the stuff I wish I knew when I was your

11:38

age that I could easily find in a video

11:40

the things that took me years to learn

11:42

that lesson I'd like to come out with

11:44

right away and save someone to trouble

11:45

somewhere else with that being said

11:47

let's get this sucker cleaned

11:54

up want to clean

11:58

there

12:00

on

12:01

top on top back

12:03

here same with

12:07

this and same on the

12:13

caliper also take some brake clean and

12:15

clean these guys off this is just old

12:17

anti that's not actually rust either way

12:19

once that's all done I can go ahead and

12:20

re antise these put it all back together

12:22

and that'll work

12:28

perfect not a much better way to do this

12:31

don't go straight on or else it'll just

12:32

drive it Go a bit of an angle so it's

12:34

always

12:37

scrubbing let the whole drum

12:44

roll beautiful how goes it sir well

12:48

going okay I'm trying to replace the uh

12:50

front shocks now I managed to break the

12:53

stud off that mounts it to the lower

12:55

trailing arm so that'll be a fun fix for

12:57

us later

13:00

well I'd say that's good enough give the

13:02

old weld give the old weld yeah that'll

13:04

do it yeah we'll grind that down thr a

13:06

ton of washers on that side and yeah

13:10

surely that'll hold all the weights on

13:11

the part that we didn't well so maybe

13:13

but don't call me surely hey that's

13:16

looking good hey it's better now yeah

13:18

weld some threads on there she actually

13:19

worked it's magic not that I doubted you

13:22

at any point doing that I did don't you

13:24

worry I did it enough for both of

13:27

us well for personal motivation St Let's

13:30

uh let see if the pump runs I'm going to

13:32

guess no way in

13:37

hell huh why no

13:42

spin that's our brand new

13:45

starter yeah solenoids all

13:49

corroded try

13:51

now okay my

13:58

turn there we go I saw something in a

14:00

zip tie and bias ply video Once where

14:03

they had a truck with a fuel pump that

14:04

was stuck and they did this they took

14:06

compressed air to the shraer valve and

14:08

knocked the pump

14:10

loose oh

14:16

what still pump

14:19

now still nothing give her a crank maybe

14:22

she's got some oh you can't do that

14:24

that's

14:28

right

14:32

our fuel pump is determined to be dead

14:35

so let's uh feed her

14:41

manually come on the old turd I don't

14:43

think you have to press the clutch to

14:45

get

14:48

spark there we

14:58

go

15:16

small backfire well there it is the old

15:19

3 l still runs I think we're going to

15:21

stop here for today let's come by in the

15:23

morning and pop the bed off and do a

15:25

fuel pump see you then today's video is

life all right let's get back to the

16:48

video we're about to initiate a day

16:51

filled with pure

16:53

violence starting right now I have a

16:56

gun step one for today let's get this

16:59

bed off and get a fuel pump in this

17:01

thing give her

17:04

hell with the bolts out of the way we

17:06

disconnected the wiring harness and

17:07

remove the tailgate after that we were

17:09

able to lift the bed off and set it on

17:10

some tires so we could access the fuel

17:14

pump answer is completely Rusty and

17:17

screwed wow in just seven years this

17:21

thing is

17:23

junk just junk all right I'll get

17:26

something to suck all that out that

17:28

should be pretty easy

17:29

do you mean a GCO pneumatic air operated

17:32

transfer pump do you have a GCO

17:34

pneumatic air operated transfer pump for

17:36

legal reasons I have to say no what

17:38

about for helpful reasons no damn it

17:41

using some hose a coolant jug in the

17:42

shop back we rigged up a system to suck

17:44

all the fuel out it worked pretty good

17:46

right until the end where it clogged

17:47

with Tar this must be that tar that

17:49

forms in the bottom of fuel tanks and

17:52

glues up the whole system dad's holds

17:53

mobile when we brought it back from

17:55

Kansas went 200 miles and it just

17:57

stopped working stopped moving Fuel and

18:00

this was in the whole bottom of the tank

18:03

and it took 200 Mi for this to

18:04

eventually get sucked up and gum up the

18:06

entire fuel system oh God look at that

18:09

perfect example fill the tube the shape

18:11

of a tube with tar that cannot be moved

18:13

once we were done playing with the goo

18:14

we put the new fuel pump in and hooked

18:16

everything up excited to see if the

18:17

truck would run on its own I think it h

18:19

pump I don't know we'll find

18:23

out come

18:27

on

18:48

the a lot of

18:57

learning

19:08

that hog ass

19:13

P there we go break this your nipple

19:16

rusted

19:17

off that's more like

19:27

it

19:31

can't believe it even tries to run like

19:33

that we need to get creative to find a

19:34

way to fix this exhaust manifold missing

19:37

all of its bolts which we have an idea

19:38

for either way there we go the ranger

19:41

runs for the first time in 7 years and

19:43

it has a transmission hook to it before

19:45

we put the bed back on we had a couple

19:46

things we wanted to do yet the first of

19:48

those is replacing the passenger side

19:50

shackle on the Springs now the Rangers

19:52

are really common for this and if you

19:53

ever see one where the tailgate all

19:55

crooked yet the front of the bed is

19:56

level that means the rear shackle has

19:58

rusted out in the spring is up against

20:00

the bottom of the bed my right side

20:01

shackle did this years ago and I fixed

20:03

it then but I figured while this bed is

20:05

still off let's go ahead knock out the

20:07

driver's side too because it also had a

20:09

bunch of rust holes in it now this job

20:10

is pretty tricky but eventually I was

20:12

able to sandwich the New Shackle bushing

20:14

into place get everything hooked up and

20:15

we're good to go this morning we are

20:17

back on the ranger working on this I am

20:19

currently putting on a new starter

20:21

solenoid Angus is putting our new filler

20:24

neck in place on the fuel tank and we

20:26

are waiting on tires to be mounted so we

20:30

can go pick those up and get the sucker

20:31

on Wheels and get it outside to paint

20:34

the

20:35

frame yeah it's a thunderstorm right now

20:38

I don't know quite how we're going to do

20:40

that one but well that's easy we'll save

20:42

on water this way yeah we'll scrub it in

20:44

the rain just like the old junkyard digs

20:46

videos either way uh it's been a good

20:48

3-day week in here we moved Angus into

20:51

his new house yay it was a lot of

20:54

cleaning the guy smoked for like 30

20:57

years in there so it was the ceiling was

20:59

black clean now Angus has a home to live

21:02

in this crab is found to New

21:04

Shell yeah bit of a slow morning here

21:07

nice rainy day so just kind of tinkering

21:09

Along on small stuff finishing up things

21:11

on the rinder oh we should be able to

21:13

bleed the brakes and clutch now we got a

21:14

oh yeah absolutely new wheel cylinders

21:16

on the rear

21:17

so after bleeding the brakes and clutch

21:20

we took some time to change the oil

21:21

check all the differentials for fluid

21:23

fill the transmission and change all the

21:25

fluid in the transfer

21:26

case well I don't feel super super good

21:28

about that I don't feel terrible about

21:32

it this was your high school truck which

21:34

means high school rules

21:35

apply get the SE clamps out for the

21:38

exhaust leag the seat clamps and the

21:40

duct tape it's all she

21:47

needs back in high school I ran a set of

21:50

BFG uh original BFG allterrain Tas on

21:53

this I was going to go with the bfgs

21:56

again for the ko2s but they are very

21:58

spendy General Grabber makes the ATX

22:00

which is as you can see a very similar

22:03

tread has some sidewall patterns and is

22:06

very deep they've also gotten pretty

22:08

expensive these were like 230 a tire 225

22:13

so they're only a little bit cheaper

22:14

than the old bfgs but they're still

22:16

cheaper all right let's get these

22:18

suckers on

22:21

there this is why I was never in

22:23

basketball with the new tires in place

22:25

the moment had finally come for the

22:27

first time in 7 years I crawled back in

22:29

the cab of my Ranger fired it up and

22:31

drove it under its own

22:46

power with the truck outside it was time

22:49

to start on the final steps we started

22:51

things off by washing the engine bay in

22:52

the frame after that we dug into the

22:54

interior because it smelled really bad

22:56

of mouse piss God damn Ang see vacuum to

22:58

seats right I was just going to say

22:59

somebody sucked our seats away

23:02

unfortunately there is only one way to

23:03

get mice smell out of a vehicle and that

23:06

is to take it all the way to the steel

23:08

we got to pull the entire interior out

23:11

of this truck to get all the mouse nests

23:15

and mouse pisss out of it out of the

23:17

HVAC system out of the dash underneath

23:19

the carpet the carpet headliner

23:22

everything has to come out so that we

23:23

can scrub this all with soap and water

23:26

and then it'll be good to go

23:30

oh there we go that's why we're going

23:34

this deep while Angus scrubbed the floor

23:36

pans I primed and undercoated the

23:38

exposed part of the frame so we could

23:39

put the bed back on after letting the

23:41

truck dry all night we came in the next

23:42

morning and unfortunately the interior

23:44

still ReRe of mice we decided they were

23:47

living in the HVAC system and

23:48

unfortunately that meant we had to pull

23:50

the dash Angus volunteered to tackle

23:52

that job while I worked on scrubbing all

23:54

the interior pieces all right I think I

23:56

got it now there you go that only took

24:00

all day oo yeah that would have stunk

24:04

forever and ever uh it still stinks now

24:06

I'll have you know how's the inside oh

24:08

yeah they were living in there holy cow

24:11

they've been around nothing active but

24:13

oh there's a mud dber nest in there I'm

24:15

going to get this pad off cuz I think

24:16

they've been

24:19

oh dude yeah they've been getting some

24:22

some housing material this is the

24:24

Menards of mice this is where they're

24:27

getting their materials from

24:29

we'll take that off clean that down too

24:31

yeah we'll scrub the entire interior now

24:33

with one more door panel we're down to

24:35

full steel so and at that point throw a

24:37

351 wi what the that's nowhere closer to

24:40

doing that ready to just what we'll have

24:43

to get a different transmission which is

24:45

the whole reason we did any of

24:47

this I thought we just wipe it down and

24:49

put it back together I don't like that

24:51

plan but all right you're the boss turns

24:53

out here and there there are covers that

24:57

you can remove on the Ford Range to wash

24:59

out the cowl and remove any uh stuff

25:04

from it to get the drains open no like

25:06

sticks and scrubs and stuff nothing

25:09

really now this is something you should

25:11

not just do on your Ford Ranger full of

25:12

mouse crap but something you should do

25:13

on every car pop these off they're on

25:15

every vehicle I don't know where they

25:17

are in every vehicle I don't know what

25:18

car you're working on Google it don't

25:20

email

25:21

me and it will tell you faster than you

25:24

can write me an email give it a Google

25:26

figure out where these are pop them off

25:27

and flush flush out your cow drains and

25:29

it helps keep your cowl from rusting out

25:32

and keeping water and stuff from getting

25:34

down underneath your dash by the way if

25:36

it ever rains you get water on the floor

25:37

it's your cwel is leaking somewhere this

25:40

in

25:44

here oh

25:46

God it's all going into the cab Kevin

25:49

you blowed it up yeah you get the vacuum

25:53

I'll get the hose we didn't think this

25:55

would be where the majority of the work

25:57

of this truck landed but it took us all

25:59

of 2 or 3 days to clean the interior of

26:01

this truck we scrubbed everything carpet

26:03

shampooed all the interior components

26:05

and then spent at least a full afternoon

26:06

on the carpet itself either way

26:08

eventually it was time to start

26:09

reassembling things and the last piece

26:11

left was a new headliner okay uh New

26:14

Life Hack we needed headliner material

26:18

and the usual speaker box stuff from

26:20

O'Reilly was too thick so we came to

26:23

Joanne Fabrics they actually have a

26:27

whole thing of act ual foam backed

26:31

headliner and on top of that if you guys

26:33

saw the F100 video one of the things

26:35

that we did was shove hunks of foam into

26:37

the corners to make it all quiet I

26:39

didn't know where to buy it but now I do

26:42

look at all that stuff this is the other

26:44

stuff that Tom used for sound ding right

26:47

here yeah oh look at that look at that

26:50

okay definitely going to have to

26:51

remember this this is a life hack for

26:52

interiors with this stuff being much

26:54

thinner it was much stretchier so we

26:56

were able to hit it with the adhesive

26:57

glue and push push it into place on this

26:59

curvy headliner just fine the best part

27:01

of all was this stuff was on sale and

27:03

almost a perfect match to the original

27:05

interior with the headliner out of the

27:07

way and everything cleaned up ready to

27:08

go we started on reassembling the

27:10

interior we did it you know what on

27:13

camera it looks like an actual window it

27:16

doesn't in real life this looks like two

27:18

pieces of plexiglass and a trench coat

27:20

pretending to be a window that's a whole

27:22

or deal right there it's about to be

27:24

when it blows in on us on the interstate

27:26

and speaking of the interstate Angus

27:28

we've adjusted fire we have come up with

27:30

a road trip for the end of this video

27:32

we're going down to see Dalton this

27:34

weekend for the Enduro races and we need

27:36

something to drive obvious answer the 98

27:40

Yes actually but less smart not so

27:43

obvious answera no the ranger guess

27:46

we're taking the ranger I could not find

27:48

any actual back glass none of the

27:50

junkyards have one and no one makes it

27:52

anymore unless I want to buy it off eBay

27:55

so I ran down the Menards got a couple

27:56

sheets of acrylic the answer would have

27:58

been plexiglass or polycarbonate cuz

28:00

this stuff's really brittle and that's

28:02

definitely going to explode on the first

28:04

bump I never even thought about the any

28:06

shift oh we've got plenty of slack Kevin

28:09

don't you worry somebody undercut this

28:11

uh acrylic a little bit oopes we got

28:14

flex room so I think it'll be fine with

28:17

that it's just you know all the pressure

28:19

behind the cab that's that's what I got

28:21

this for oh good our backup window all

28:24

right let's get the interior finished up

28:25

in this thing and then hit the road all

28:27

the way the way south of Kansas City

28:29

like 3 and 1/2 hours you know what else

28:30

is going to hit the

28:32

road this

28:34

windshield there it

28:37

is a fully cleaned interior the carpet

28:41

still could be better the insulation has

28:42

got some smells but I've got something

28:43

to fix that just there we go yeah put

28:47

some air fresher in here woohoo all

28:50

right now we all feel better hell yeah

28:52

we just turn the H back on to see if the

28:54

AC worked and then you just recharged

28:56

nothing really came out of the vents

28:58

weird we just put a new blower Mower on

29:01

this literally yesterday it's not

29:03

blowing any air that was weird we we're

29:06

fiddling under the dash pulling the

29:07

levers pushing the doors nothing's

29:09

making a difference the blower motor

29:10

that came is one that needs to be

29:12

hardwired instead of using the connector

29:14

so Angus match the colors black and

29:17

black black and orange so we came in cut

29:20

the wires swapped the polarity to be

29:22

opposite colors of what they were

29:24

matched to the factory

29:26

and there we go now we got a ton of

29:30

air you know what's funny the whole

29:34

thing this is not the first time I've

29:37

seen this in fact this fixes a problem

29:40

that I ran into years ago and could not

29:42

figure out remember that diesel flatbed

29:44

like IDI we had oh yeah the new shop

29:47

Truck Yeah the shop truck from a long

29:49

time ago back when you got your F1 100

29:51

yeah I put a new blower motor in it and

29:53

fixed the AC on there to like teach

29:54

myself how to do it and it never blew

29:56

hard the blower motor run at all the

29:58

speeds but there was never a lot of air

30:00

I guarantee it was the same exact

30:02

problem the factory that made that

30:04

blower motor had it wired backwards yeah

30:07

they're both from O'Reilly's and that's

30:09

exactly what the problem was with that

30:10

truck too so I guess if you put a new

30:12

blower motor in and it sucks flip the

30:15

polarity that way it'll blow that way

30:17

it'll no that's just it is it was

30:20

blowing in both directions there was

30:22

still there was only half that amount of

30:23

air coming out of the dash but there was

30:24

still air coming out of the dash which

30:26

was weird squirrel cages work mysterious

30:28

ways I guess so there there's your

30:30

learning point for this video all right

30:32

now let's finish this up and hit the

30:33

road can't see you

30:38

on going to push the button there she

30:44

go come on break it in break it

30:49

in damn I am freezing it is that is

30:52

frigid air there you go

30:56

38° that's cold AC all I did was put a

30:59

single can back in

31:05

it let's hit the road the ranger back

31:09

baby here we

31:11

are slowly approaching speed for the

31:15

first time in 7 years she still drives

31:19

excellent got front and rear sway bar

31:21

this thing always handled great and the

31:24

violently underpowered 3 l meant that

31:26

you were always hard on the thr throttle

31:28

to maintain whatever speed you had

31:30

chosen none of that's changed it's all I

31:32

exactly the same it smells fantastic in

31:35

here finally and the headliner looks

31:37

great the interior came out really

31:39

really nice like I don't think this

31:41

trunck has ever been this clean in the

31:43

time that I've owned it so that's

31:44

fantastic we got to go home drop the

31:47

olds off load all my stuff up into the

31:48

truck and we are southbound let's do it

31:52

man this feels good to be back except

31:53

for I am much larger now I don't don't

31:56

quite fit in this as good oh oh the

31:58

shift knob the shift knob fell off in my

32:00

hand come on old girl come on you can do

32:05

it man is there like a south wind or

32:07

something this thing is fighting to do

32:09

75 I mean 70 actually the speedometer is

32:12

off a little bit because of our tire

32:13

size this is going to be a really long

32:15

trip South a really oh yeah there's a

32:18

really strong southerly wind that

32:20

oldmobile is looking more and more

32:22

enticing all right we're all packed up

32:24

and ready to hit the road one thing left

32:27

to do

32:28

The Changing of the

32:36

Guard yeah she's got a little life left

32:38

in her let's do it 258

32:41

miles all right what do you think it's

32:45

uh it's pretty close quarters I'm not

32:46

going to lie there's a little cramped in

32:48

here it's a little obnoxious yep so you

32:52

did this in high school huh this exhaust

32:55

Yep this was you eh uh-huh yeah that

32:57

sounds about right not the person I used

32:58

to be no things change a lot

33:05

actually it's not very fast is it oh God

33:08

it's so slow it's slower than I remember

33:12

other than that it handles good it

33:14

handles

33:17

fantastic the uh yeah so the bad part

33:20

right now is we have a Tailwind a pretty

33:21

significant one that we're still working

33:24

to do

33:25

65 we have to go that

33:28

way when we hit the inter state well

33:32

we'll have plenty of time to think about

33:34

it this is going to be a long trip to

33:37

casine long trip to

33:42

dols here we

33:44

go prepare yourself Angus we're about to

33:47

merge onto

33:49

I35 I'm prepared I'm ready to die

33:55

okay going for 5K

34:02

that was a money shift no no it wasn't

34:05

that was

34:07

thir this thing the stick is a little

34:10

different shape than the old one she

34:12

shakes a little bit Co vibration pretty

34:15

good one higher

34:19

vibration when I put the clutch in it

34:21

just goes to like 4 grand yeah that's

34:24

not right you've already burned a

34:26

quarter of a tank so oh my my God have

34:28

you been on the floor this whole time

34:30

yes look at this P the clutch in goes

34:35

to watch

34:37

out we've got some funky EFI stuff going

34:40

on that I don't love it's going to take

34:42

a little while to figure this stuff out

34:45

uh and I would rather do that around

34:46

home traveled this entire 40 mil from

34:49

the shop to home back to the shop to

34:51

your place and then down the interstate

34:53

and now we're going to get off the

34:54

interstate and go get the 98 to go to

34:56

Dalton's because uh

34:58

we're wide open doing 65 down the

35:01

interstate and we're late we're like an

35:04

hour late already and we can't even do

35:06

the speed limit that's just the way of

35:08

the Ranger man so is the way of the

35:10

Ranger pointing towards the

35:16

302 goly other than that drive is

35:20

fantastic no weird noises just old '90s

35:23

fuel injection issues that I don't want

35:25

to deal with today plus there a little

35:27

cramped in here and the old mobile is

35:29

going to be able to do the highway

35:30

speeds that this truck cannot like we

35:32

couldn't get above

35:35

65 we're going to

35:37

crash dude look at

35:40

this there we go and I dump the clutch

35:43

in

35:45

second besides that uh yeah

35:49

fixed suppose we're not going to do the

35:51

old road trip all the way to Kansas City

35:53

I don't have time to deal with this

35:54

thing we're late already we're just

35:55

going to hop and we reliable the car

35:57

carburated car the 98 and head on down

36:00

to see Dalton with that being said keep

36:01

an eye on his channel cuz we're going to

36:03

be down there to do some racing we're

36:04

just helping film but it should still be

36:06

a fun time as for the old Ranger here

36:09

like I said she's just going to be good

36:11

daily driver back and forth of town haul

36:13

stuff around all sticks and things

36:15

beyond all I am just glad to have it

36:17

back feels good to get back in the truck

36:19

that I grew up in thank you guys very
